“All I’m saying is there are some things beyond the ken of mortal man that shouldn’t be tampered with – we don’t know everything, Andy. And there’s plenty going on right now in The Twilight Zone that we don’t know anything about and I think we ought to stay clear!” -- Barney Fife, 1963...
.Only in the Kennedy era could something this comical be so creepy. Like The Petries and that haunted "murder cabin"...
Me, you mean you want me to go up to that Haunted house I mean the remshaw house. I gottta get my hat, o my hat. Im going. gomer you busy how would like to go for a ride with me..
@xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx -- @xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx -- All we were ever told is that she died and that was told us on the pilot for "The Andy Griffith Show" which appeared on "The Danny Thomas Show". In the pilot episode, Andy reminds Opie, "I lost your mom when you was just the least little speck of a baby." Of course, there are things in the pilot that changed before the first episode, but it did establish from the very beginning that Andy was a widower raising a boy, and that never changed.
If the haunted house looks familiar, you may have recognized it from Gone With the Wind. In 1935 David Selznick leased the property from RKO to construct the city of Atlanta & the Tara mansion for the movie Gone With The Wind. Several of the buildings used in the Gone With The Wind set (that didn't burn down), were later used for Mayberry. Superman, Ozzie & Harriet, The Green Hornet, The Untouchables, Gomer Pyle USMC, Hogan's Heros, Lassie, Batman, & Star Trek were filmed here.
@chrisandlane -- The Andy Griffith Show was filmed in Culver City, Ca. at the Desilu Studios (the 40 acre backlot) which became Paramount. The set for Gomer Pyle USMC was just behind Wally's Filling Station and the set for Hogan's Heroes was next to that. The Munsters was filmed at Universal Studios in Universal City, Ca.
Love it....but my favorite of all time was when Otis sued Mayberry because he slipped while in jail. Barney tried to get him to confess and put a tape recorder in the other cell. You'll die laughing!!!!!!
About 1993 or 94 I bought this episode on VHS tape (the other episode on it was Three wishes for opie). That tape cost me about 10 bucks. Normally I wouldnt spend so much for only 2 episodes, but I was STARVED for classic tv shows because I didnt have cable tv at the time (didnt get cable until 1996), and the local free channels hadnt aired TAGS (among many other classic tv shows) since the 1970s. Years go by and I auction that now out of print tape on eBay. To my surprise, it went for 40 bucks.
There is actually a saying that says....."there's nothing to fear but fear itself." However, the person that invented that inspiration was working when he said it
my uncle worked in the props dept. at the studio and I think he said "forty acres" where the mayberry scenes were filmed - I have some neat props and a baseball glove just like that one in the first scene
Seems like this episode inspired "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" or maybe it was the other way around. It does seem like its got elements from that movie.
THE BOY WITH OPIE , HIS REAL NAME IS RONNIE DAPO. HE PLAYED IN 3 EPISODES OF TAGS.
