  • Everyone keeps saying that he is this huge ego maniac, but i've watched alot of interviews with him now, and I don't think so. Sure, he is self confident, but he seems to be mostly driven my motivation, dedication and his passion for music. There is nothing wrong with that.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Also, what "people" like does not denote good music. Justin Bieber is a terrible musician yet people like him. Music is the expression of emotion and to master this expression or to depict more complex emotions, practice and advancement of musical knowledge must occur. This is why Malmsteen is "better" than any idiot who picks up a guitar and plays 3 chords.

  • @Aeolianshredhead So when I say something is inspiring and beautiful it is a matter of subjectivity, but when it comes to your favourite artists its objectively true. What I like is subjective and if I prefer that its subjective but everybody who plays 3 chords is objectively an idiot. Its terribly pretentious to use the 'subjectivity' card to shit on other tastes while completely disregarding it when it comes to what you like.

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Your criteria of "inspiring", "beautiful" and meaningful are what are subjective here. Being a musical master means that you must master the art of music itself- not learn a few simple chords and leave it at that. Musical education would be invalid if what you're saying is true.

  • hes so right, words can't not hurt me.

  • @Hertsman50 I guess you think bands like ACDC should do something that sounds different too! Yngwie has a style of making/writing music that he like's to use to express himself! By the way what changes prey tell would you have Yngwie make to sound better?

  • Yngwie I hate to break it to ya, but definition of "good music" or "good musicianship" is hugely subjective. Speed, technique and complexity count for nothing if the music is not inspiring, beautiful or just meaningful. Some of the greatest musical geniuses don't go beyond basic chords. Virtuosism is all nice and good, some people like it and most don't. Doesn't make it better or worse than any other music

  • @000theUnforgiven000 Listen, dude: good music is good music and bad music is bad music, no matter how it makes you feel, and bad musicians always use your childish argument. Plus, if you really understand music, you will learn to appreciate the good one. Not the crappy retarded alcoholic drug addicts who throw some shitty lyrics into a microphone, but rather the geniuses who's musical mastery makes REAL musicians out of them. Yngwie is one of these people and this is where his ego comes from!

  • @LightningStrat TOTALLY CORRECT>>>Some people get it and others call a virtuoso "fat man" and end up jayin' off instead of practicing.

  • GRABS GUITAR *DETERMINATION* THANK YOY YNGWIE !!

  • so arrogant person! and stupid at the same time

it would be a breakout for him to score more than 70 in IQ test

  • @alaanees Stupid?? Hardly! He would not have had the 27+ year career if he was. He's not very articulate because english is not his first language.

  • well If you are bored that is fine but if you feel YJM solos are similar.. well guess what? that is what we call a signature style which he created out of nothing BTW. Malmsteen is a visionary, creator not simply a copycat that tries to play like someone else and please be reminded that when he first arrived in the US, NO ONE played Neo-classical metal and not too long after a swarm of guitarists tried to copy him but they CANNOT-YJM is a genius and an innovator!

  • I know YJM is brilliant at what he does but I just wish he would play something different. Every solo he plays just sounds the same like he is using the same scale patterns. He isn't very experimental with his playing. You hear him the first time and think wow that is impressive but after a while he does sound very boring.

  • So many people rip on Malmsteen but the guy is massively amazing musician and guitarist. I can respect a guy who says straight out if you want to achieve virtuosity there is NO short cut what did he say? blood, sweat, tears... time. He paid his dues the guy fucking rocks you might not like his "style" but he kicks ass.

  • ... YAY FOR DUNCAN DOUGHNUTS

  • "if you want to be a good musician you have to go trough tears of blood, no compromising, thats the only way" so people that says yngwie is only speed no heart, his melody scale arpeggio(usually harmonic minor and diminished) are perfectly combined

  • haha fyfan va cool den här mannen är! blir så stolt över att va svensk

  • Very legit

  • the best personalty in the world i fuckin love him , he is my fuckin god

  • be negative = go nowhere

  • he has earned the right to have a huge ego listen to his music

  • very inspirational. Yngwie can be a dick sometimes. but he knows what he's doing.

  • america is totally hostess ding dong bull shit with it's faggy american idol jerk crap, the metal scene is in Europe, but great musicians are all over the world, it's just that america has their head up their ass just cause a teen twenty twinkie can jerk off to the idea being fifteen shades away from a hour info Infomercial, america is a great country and all," it's just the times they are a changing"

  • what he says isnt totally true

you dont have to suffer to be a virtuoso if you ENJOY it

  • wish he was more dynamic in his playing, and would play with a hardcore bebop band. Other than that he's one of the most gifted.

  • WTF Yngwie, I just saw an interview where you claim that the US need no change, it's the greatest country on earth, and Sweden pretty much sucks???? Fuck that huh??

Listen up chum, get some perspective and get real, I think you need to get an idea of what life is for about ninety percent of the population in your precious US, and come again......

  • In America you can be born in poverty and become rich. However there is a large amount of the population that has been infected by the nanny mentality. They put their hand out and do not want for anything but to be taken care of by the taxpayers. The lazy nanny mentality takes the drive out of life!!!!! Why do we let bums mooch off of us??????? Liberal, progressive, socialist BUMS!!!!!!!

  • everytime i become frustrated with my playing and my music i come to this video. "theres no easy way, its blood, sweat and tears... you have to work hard for a very long time". makes me wanna keep practice to get better!

  • DIS COMMENT IS DILDOS.Also, what was wrong wit your guitar sounds Toki

  • 1:57 it's a good principle.

  • I will never understand why people say that Yngwie was full of himself.

    HE'S DEFINATELY NOT.

He just says the truth about himself and everything. AND HE'S THE FUCKING BEST.

    YJM IS GOD

  • @AlexDurazo I love you, too.

  • Comment removed

  • Yngwie, you'll never be remerbered because of your songs or creativity. You'll always be remembered because of your fast playing. That's it, man. Don't kid yourself. Your stuff is booooooring. Other people who plays fast have good songs (Satriani, Morse, Johnson, Bettencourt...) but almost nobody can name one of your songs.

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte Yngwie influenced Jason Becker, Jeff Loomis..both are amazing guitarists. Take your jealous garbage and shove it douchefag

  • @wsrhw I'm not jealous of that kind of guitarists and music. I don't like shreders and I don't like heavy or neoclassical. It's really boring. It's like "who runs faster?". They don't transmit anything. I prefer listening to thousands of musicians and guitarist who say more with less.

By the way, suck my ass and go have a walk around your block. I love you, honey. Kiss

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte Why the fuck did you watch this video then!!!

  • @0zzyfan44 'Cause I want.

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte if u don like shred what the hell are u doing here

  • @playloud1622 Checking it.

  • People don't remember that you're the lyricist, producer and arranger 'cause all your stuff is boring and has no emotion, and the only thing that make people listen to you is your circus playing.

  • @ronniephillips hahahahahahaha nice one.............

  • all i hear is noise, no feel

  • why do so many people believe that playing fast equates being a good musician? Can't people focus on other aspects of composition without "jumping on a trend", "selling out" etc?

  • Just think, pussies. Every minute you argue about cake, you get slower, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets faster.

Unless you're typing one-handed while you're practising hammer-on sweeps, of course.

  • In "e flat minor" apparently

  • Well Said, Yngwie !!!!

    God Bless !!!

  • haha

  • @pietdepsi so, what is a "pedal point" ?

  • @CAPZLOKK Pedal point in general simply means having a sustained note playing as a drone under (or over) a sequence or figure. But as Yngwie uses it, it means having one note to which which you continually return, called the 'pedal', in between 1 or more other changing notes which relate to the pedal by scale or arp.

A pedal point in this sense is used very dramatically in Yngwie's 'trilogy suite', the first main section, for example.

  • Why the fuck do everybody say he has a huge ego... It s so fucking wrong, he s juste self confident and he knows what he wants, I admire him. He s one of the best musicians in this world, and I don t see his ego. A megalomaniac is never a hardworker. Fuck the shit people.

  • @simariatoyou are my lost brother!!!!!!

  • @simariato can you say that again? Great! YJM is the proof atheists are looking for: a real God: we can listen thi Him everyday and is all good :-)

  • @simariato Those are people that can only handle the simplest most basic straight forward music or people that have been misled to believe that an amazing guitarist sounds like kirk hammett or something. I've played yngwie stuff for some people that is truly ingenious and it just goes rite over some peoples heads. So they lash out and say fuck yngwie, he's just a big fat, repetitive, asshole with a huge ego. Theres no hope for them.

  • @simariato exactly! he knows what he wants, and always stands by it, what's wrong with that? ... ;)

  • Yes Yngwie you can play guitar but dont go bragging about your lyrics.....!

  • Very stupid question but, whats a "pedal point"?

  • great advice from yngwie

  • amen!just amazing!

  • I did not like Yngwie... I always respected his talent, his showmanship, his skill, but always thought he was a pompous, egotistical man. Seeing this video and hearing his point of view, my perception of him has changed.

  • he says some good stuff, but....i just dont like him. i cant help it!

  • GOTTA SUFFER

    TRUDAT!!!!!!!!!!!! \,,/

  • master of masters! the proof atheists are looking for!

that's Yngwie Johann Malmsteen. I love your music and Far beyond the sun is great!

tnx for existing! and hail form Brazil!

  • Trends come and go, but true musicanship is never out of style. Yngwie NEVER followed trends. He was and is a leader not a follower.

  • is the background song "cracking hte whip"?

  • @theZoftime Yes.

  • I wonder if Yngwie is a prodigal virtuoso or just a virtuoso. Virtuoso means you have mastered it (Clapton, Beck, Satriani, all virtuosos) but Prodigy means it's a natural talent. You have to have natural talent to get as good as any of those four, but prodigies can have those skills at a young age. I think Yngwie might be both, because even practicing for countless hours won't get you that good without a good deal of innate skill. ANYWHOO, I don't like his music, but I respect it.

  • @superlou1s

i think you re spot on.

  • @superlou1s I think you're right. I think he's both. There is videos of him playing when he really young, and he was awesome then.

  • lol at that arrogant cock calling himself and incredibly good musician.

  • @ihatebobsaget1989 look at your stupid ass that no one has ever heard about, saying that Yngwie isn't an incredibly good musician.

  • @rredzone nah i just think it's funny how blatantly cocky he is. i never said he was bad. you're the idiot here.

  • @ihatebobsaget1989 you can think it's as funny as you want dumbfuck. You are nothing.

  • @ihatebobsaget1989 Um, are you retarded? He IS an incredibly good musician. LOL Thats a fact not just opinion. Whether you like his music or not is opinion.

  • i think what he said is not true ive been playin guitar for 4 years and have become good and its not hard work because u enjoy getting better so when u enjoy it practising doesnt become a drag because its so fun and no sacrafises neccesary

my messge is to not be disheartend by yngwies negative speech

  • Listen to something like Necrophagist or Nile if you want a greater variety in scales... Diminished, Octatonic, and related chromatic notes are spawning a new kind of music theory! Now I am positive that yngwie would understand this. you can play diminished scales over a V7 chord to prolong the dominant! just like in bach. arn't I smart???

  • I think the thing about Yngwie "playing all the same scales" is partly due to the fact that he plays so damn fast! When you play that fast, the music suffers *JUST A LITTLE!* because you can play something beautiful in E minor pent. and then E major pent. and it'll sound VERY similar. The deal with Clapton (amazing guitarist), he, quite frankly, is just much slower, so each tone rings out far more. Just my opinion. Yngwie still rocks my ass off!

  • there only 12 notes in music no matter if you play fast or repetitive ...matter what you have to express i really enjoy listening bb king stuff for example and yngwie malmsteen or even michaelangelo batio stuff ... they are different things you know.... like vainilla n' chocolat both great but different

  • slash eats this guy for breakfast

  • @shredmaster100

Everyone knows shreddies are the best breakfast for a guitarist. ;D

    Nom, nom, nom.

  • shit that was a good one il remember that but seriously malmsteen is no longer in a real band because he takes the spotlight away from the singers thats why graham bonnet got rid of him and joe lynn turner if he slowed down and played something with more feeling instead of sweep picked arpeggios all the time he would be a great player but as it stands slash and buckethead own him

  • @shredmaster100

Hah, thanks. I coined it myself when I was walking to college about four years ago, believe it or not!

Malmsteen has said with those bands he did what he felt. He wanted to write the music all himself, which is fine and understandable as a creative artist. Yngwie has said, "Some people say "oh, he just plays fast", but that's not true, I put a lot of emotion into it".

It is of course your opinion. Personally, I really like all of those guitarists. I don't need to compare.

  • yeah man youre right about him wanting to leave towrite his own music but i really think when i watch yngwie play guitar hes just using the same scales and arpeggios over and over where as players like slash and buckethead mix it up with mainstream music like buckethead will be playing a crazy solo and then go into the theme from the exorcist it helps keep it interesting like slash plays the godfather theme where as yngwie just plays the same classical solos but as u said thats my own opinion

  • Mmhm. Here's another Yngwie quote about using the same scales, etc.: "I never hear or read anyone saying anything about Eric Clapton playing the same notes for 45 years or something, but I always get that, and I wonder why that is... I sometimes feel that's the only thing they can complain about. I mean, I have style... *excuse me*! If you don't like it, that's fine, but this is what I do".

He's also a lot more humble than what many people's claims to the opposite suggest. You see?

    (:

  • yeah i see what u mean but eric claptons not a shredder hes a blues guitarist and most blues guitar players always use the pentatonic scale over and over in their licks even bb king does that but not at the speed malmsteen plays i mean if you really want to see a guitar player who in my own opinion was everything yngwie wasnt check out jason becker he was awesome and i do appreciate your comments thanks

  • Yes, he is a blues guitarist, but I think that is besides the point! Slash uses the pentatonic scale a lot, too. Buckethead is probably the least repetitive of the three, but Yngwie is my favourite. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment in hearing some of the same licks and scales in the solos time again.

Now, Jason...I love his music! I'm learning the Serrana arpeggio section, actually. But still, Yngwie and Jason are different; they have diff. things they need to express. 'Tis all art, man!

  • everyone has a different opinion. obviously, you think Yngwie is repetitive, and I respect that completely, but disagree wholeheartedly. Yngwie is one of my favorite musicians. The only similarities I hear in his music is when he plays a pedal point section in his improvised solos. If you listen to Blitzkrieg, Caprici Di Diablo, Presto Vivace, and Black Star, each one is radically different from the rest. He's not repetitive at all to me. He's one of the true remaining artists nowadays, imo.

  • Is this comment directed to me?

In any case, I do not think he is very repetitive. Definitely not to the point that many people seem to think.

Yes, the pedal points. Then there is the one A minor arpeggio shape he uses in the majority of his pieces, and a particular harmonic minor shape. And a few other licks here and there. I *have* analysed his music.

But indeed, overall, his music is diverse and fresh.

I love all of those pieces. You can hear the A minor shape in Blitzkrieg, in fact.

  • nah, I was talking to shredmaster100. I love Yngwie. he's one of my main inspirations as a guitar player and musician

  • and yeah, that A minor shape is pretty awesome. is that a descending and ascending shape in sextuplet rhythms? he plays it so quickly, it's a little hard for me to discern the exact timing of the notes.

I love pedal point; it's one of the reasons I listen to Yngwie because he's one of the few contemporary musicians I listen to who uses it in that way. I love that sound and I love playing those kinds of shapes. they sound so cool and they're so fun to play :P

  • Yep, sometimes. It's a descending lick he usually starts on the 17th fret of the e string and descends to the B on the 7th fret of the low E string. You can hear it in Icarus Dream Suite.

That's cool. Yngwie does pedal point so well. It's part of what adds such great rhythmicity to his playing. Most guitarists seem to focus on melody and their rhythm playing tends to suffer. With Yngwie there is strong rhythm in his playing, too... it adds so much more dynamic and emotional impact. I agree. (:

  • @shredmaster100

    beck is good

if i want to hear fast shreding and stuff like that

i would listen to malmsteen or becker

    but for me

if i want o hear an all around guitar player

    i would listen to via

  • i love that guy, fucking legend

  • Incredible guy and musician.

  • neat advice. uli jon roth's advice is different he says you should focus deeply first, but im sure both practiced there asses off.

  • Love it how he says 1:30 If you wanna be virtuoso .. there's no easy way

  • loved that ending....kick ass

  • the ending itself or what he says in the end ?

  • @Flakevee I meant the ending of the music.

  • Thats typical!

  • Jepp, it´s true. Yngwie actually has perfect-pitch..

  • he is an amazing musician and an amazing person, he has good principles

  • amen , a true chapion, innovator, legend and genius

  • yngwie malmsteen has absolute pitch? D:!!

woow, this is new for me o.o

  • they don't have perfect pitch though.. I remember reading about vai putting a pitch fork on his head when he woke up.. saying it's something you can attain by doing so.. Yngwie doesn't know how to read or write music.. it's Derick Sherinian who actually wrote it down for the orchestra.. doesn't diminish my enjoyment though .. just saying it to put the "he wrote some analasys " in perspective.. :-) nice upload

  • @TICETOCAR

I will direct your attention to the following Yngwie quote from an interview: "I have perfect pitch, so I could figure things out just by listening". Other sources confirm this.

As far as I am aware, Vai has never explicitly stated that he has it, although he was once tested in an interview and his results were those only someone with perfect pitch could attain, unless he had the tones memorised, which is unlikely. Furthermore, Wikipedia maintains that he does have it.

    [cont...]

  • As for the latter, I am specifically referring to Yngwie's analyses he did indeed do for Guitar World magazine, circa 1999. He gave examples of how he used ideas that Bach and Vivaldi would use and explained how they fit into his playing. He also analysed some of their compositions.

  • You're exactly right. Everyone tends to confuse Perfect pitch with Relative pitch. Most trained musicians and singers have good relative pitch. Especially those who have studied Solfeggio. Perfect pitch is very rare and not something that can be taught, even though David L. Burge claims he can teach it to people. Cheers.

  • Yngwie is a hardcore musician because that's the way he wants to follow. But, this does not means that he don't respects any other style of music then classical or the kind of music that is close to his style. He just wants to play like this, he likes it. What he said it is correct.

  • this is absolutely incredible

  • yeah i was replying to VaiRendy (: thank you for supporting.. i got tired of reading his comment about he doesn't follow music theory when he is making music, then he must sound alot like crap.. yeah i went there.

  • If someone tells you "You are Great" that is not good,If someone tells you "you are not great" that is not good too so listen to your hearth!

  • I would say that nothing is better than a selfcriticism and advices from people who are more experienced players :)

  • When did fireplaces learn to speak?

  • You could atleast spell heart right.

  • Yngwie is looking a bit like Elvis Presley these days :O ... still a helluva guitarist tho !

  • I liked that

  • Shut Up And Listen Again!

  • YJM the ultimate guitar player that ever lived!

  • "lightning strat" please just delete comments like Mr.VaiRendy's!

this kinda comments make the video unpleasant to watch!

  • I think everyone should be able to have his or her say pertaining to any matter. That way, if everything is laid out on the table, as it were, and subsequently discussed, there is always much to learn.

You do not have to read his comments.

If someone chooses to spend their time writing about guitarists they don't like, then that is of their own volition, albeit I don't think Vai or Malmsteen would ever spend their time like this. There's no accounting for taste!

  • xd xd xd... thank's broter

  • If u wanna all comments saying like u want, just make notes on your diary....

this forum joined people around the world, not Yngwie's family only..

  • Mr.VaiRendy if i had a chance to meet you i would ask you what do you understand about music and what knowage you have to judge!

after that i would beat you so bad that you would not put anymore stupid comments without backing them up with proof!

  • and his guitar lol

  • @VaiRendy - fuck u

  • FUCK YOU! If you're just a little Mainstream Boy with Mando Diao Hairstyle THEN FUCKIN DON'T LISTEN TO YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Motherfucker. Should Yngwie wear Bluejeans, adidas sportsshoes and pink T-Shirts??? This is Rock, This is fuckin Metal and if you're a metal musician you should wear long hair and Black Leather. And not that gay motherfuckin mainstream shit!!! So PISS OFF and listen to radio!

  • @NevermindXY tbh i agree with you but black leather is a little bit gay

  • @NevermindXY black leather and long hair is what I LOVE! Im not a metal head but I do LOVE Yngwie. I love his outfit in Icarus Dream Fanfare with Orchestra, incrediably HOT!

  • @shavanna01 i dun think yngie's metal anyway..i think he's jus good old hard rock n roll :)) love the leather dude , i finally got meself one o those sick leather pants..fuckin awesome, yngie rocks

  • @AceInTheWhole94 where did u get them ?i want some too , but cant find them.

  • @NevermindXY Why not wear what you like?

  • @NevermindXY I bet he would look better with a v-deep shirt.... NOT REALLY LOL.

Yngwie is one of the few dudes I know that can pull of a cheese suit and look fucking cool in it...

  • @MrNebelful lol, yeah probably!

  • @NevermindXY fuck off mainstream.that's how he feels.mick jager use to wear women clothes.isn't he a rocker so fuck off

  • @1997mikee My comment may sound a bit "extreme", youd do better if you knew the context before writing such unlogical shit. AND HOW THE FUCK CAN LEATHER AND LONG HAIR BE MAINSTREAM??? (Oh yeah I forgot: If youre a female, of course.)

  • @NevermindXY that's rock. no rules

  • @NevermindXY these words make me cry, couldnt have said it better myself... rock on!

  • @NevermindXY i like your positive outlook on things........

  • @NevermindXY where waterever you want, its the music that matters

  • @DimeRB2496 My comment sounds extreme and your point is absolutely true. There is a background to this comment and Im not happy that its the top rated without the other comments

  • @NevermindXY yea man i know what you mean

  • @NevermindXY main stream shit is still gay though lol and yea i agree

  • are you a homosexual, why would you care what another man looks like or what he wears, shouldnt be about the music that comes out of his soul and not the man made material on his back???? im just sayin.....

  • @ vairendy

  • Anyone who says that his playing is just fast doesn't have a clue what they're talking about, yes, his playing is not for everybody but just because you don't like it, don't say that his playing lacks feeling.

Because it certainly does not. For example; listen to his vibrato! No other guitarist has such an amazing vibrato like Yngwie. None. His playing is so much more than technical, you must admit that.

  • page and hendrix do not play metal. Yngwie does not play classic rock/blues. How are you comparing them against each other? Soul and feeling is in the music, it just happens to be in a music that goes 120 mph faster then blues rock.

  • Love him or hate him, you can't help but admire his tenacity. And those leather pants. LOL

  • who wrote a dozen of great songs with John L. Turner,Doggie white, michael vascera, jeff scot soto? stop talking about things you do not understand!

  • come on.... he just play, no feeling, not creating something new... duh.... next please

  • on what techinical and theory level are you?

  • now I can see that Yngwie fans are only know and care about technic and theory,

(what both are just basic in playing)

btw, Yngw cannot do jamming. everybody know it

  • i am not a "Yngwie Fan"!

i am a musician who is a fan and respects giants...

i play fusion style like Lane and Gambale but i still like to Play Yngwie and i have great respect for him!

like it or not Yngwie is a giant....Guthrie Govan respects Yngwie who do you think you are to diss him ?:P

  • Lol...me not better than yngwie in making people sick

  • Btw, he can be better if u compare him with MAB.. :P...

  • just all newbies just keep their opinions to them self !

  • hmm.. if you're not a newbie, why u still keep ur opinion to yourself about this...? XD XD Xd. I like playing words....LoL

  • what a weird fucking dude. and he's still wearing leather pants.
