  • 4 dislikes!! I'd like an explanation.

  • Perfection!!!

  • Just amazing. Kiri is the best..!

  • which church is this?

  • DIVINA!

  • again, the only soprano with enough communication ability and presence to sing this and not be boring, like the other ladies

  • i like how the symphony comes in while she's still holding the E... that was cool...

i have the most awesome voice coach for giving me this piece... i wish i could those high notes with such soft grace.

  • the 0:01 image of the opera is beautiful

  • 2:21 just haunting...What a heavenly voice!

  • Wonderful! But only the wealthy can afford it!

    Just look at the audience..........

  • @rayrac You're right, it is really sick.. The wealthy shouldn't have access to anything beautiful.. We the poor should inherit and will inherit the beauty that humanity could give to one another.

  • So well controlled. Love hearing this at a different tempo. Such grace without having to lift a single limb.

  • I don't want to play the "historically informed performance" nerd here, but this is really too slow. Surely G F never intended such a dirge

  • Perfectly beautiful - thanks for posting.

  • Absolutely Prefection! She's just....I.....I'm speechless!

  • pure beauty. :)

  • Amazing breath support! Ah I wish I could sing this like her! I'm doing this song and Faure's Mandoline for an upcoming competition and I can only marvel at the amazing support and tone of these beautiful singers. One day!!

  • I know I'm going to get tomatoes thrown at me for this, but while I truly love her control and technique and the lovely floating quality of her voice here, she looks so thoroughly constipated.

  • Wow! The voice just floats.... jaw dropping!

  • very nice...

  • stupenda interpretazione ! grazie *****

  • bravissima

  • thanks :)

  • kiri for ever!!!

  • Dame Kiri Te Kanawa- all my respect.

  • by the way i'm singing this for a concert and my teacher has always got the italian right but this time she's told me to to sing traCcia, as you would say it in english with a hard C. I was just wondering is it right to sing it tra(ch)ia applying the itallian double c = ch rule?

  • The trick for the double is:

tra (micro pause with "a" long) cha [traccia]

"a" in Italian sound like in FAR (far east)

without micro pause is [tracia] a Greece region.

    Bye

  • che delicatezza

    Bravissima

  • Que c'"est incroyable, majestueux ! Bravissima ! Merci! AV

  • Just stunning -- thank you for posting this.

  • Outstanding performance! BRAVA Kiri!

  • Care selve, ombre beate,

vengo in traccia del mio cor..

    Beloved forests, joyous shadows:

I come in search of my heart.

  • 250 años de fallecido

  • Handel was a giant.

  • I just love her angel voice. And this time she has beautiful dress!

  • This is the definitive performance of this aria IMO. It shows Kiri at her best...absolutely sublime. A close second would be Caballe's version.

  • This is a beautiful version and is really lovely, one of the best, but even this version doesn't come close to Caballe's defenitive otherworldy rendition.

  • That's your opinion, but I prefer to hear this aria with orchestra - piano accompaniment is not sufficient.

  • Yes, quite exquisite. This aria certainly does not wanted to be belted out nor does it need embellishment. Which is why Caballe is also up there for me, and let's not forget Leontyne Price. But for me the absolute all-time number one rendition is Gigli. I wish someone would upload that (someone swiped my LP years ago!)

  • to be blessed to have a Voice like this and then lose it...

  • When did she lose it?

  • What an angelic voice! So tender and beauteous!

Dame Kiri, you voice here can waft a soul above, to the the azure sky.

  • i'm currently working on this song. i plan on auditioning for college with it. but she takes it a little slower than i do.

  • Honey or sir this is not a beginners song;

I have been looking at it for twenty five tears and that is all;take a look at Where 'er

YOU WALK (HANDEL)also Bist du Bei Mir (Bach)

    also--Nacht und Traüme (Schubert)

  • I just wanted you to know that I got accepted to the college I auditioned for. I also sang this song for an honors jury. I got an A.

  • You must be an idiot. YOU, cuddlebear51, are the dumg, ugly biaaaatch!

CARE SELVE is a lament, not war cry or victory shout. Te Kanawa caresses the melody and text aptly.

  • Sqid101- I do take your point of view and what she has said in the past about other artists like Westerna is hypocritical. I think she has done some good in the community thru her foundation and masterclasses- She is not all that bad!!!:)) I think it takes alot of effort to dislike someone than to like them.!!

  • Beautiful!!- one of Handel's best aria sung by one of the worlds' greatest soprano. There will always be distractors to the art of kiri te kanawa but fortunately we have her work to justify how great she was and still is. Opera is a cut throat business and I don't mean to condone it but you have to fight the fights and win the wins. I have heard of other sopranos that do worse in their assault so why don't we enjoy what are given and have a balanced perspective. There are worse in the world.!!!

  • domi2020, I am not saying that this is not a great bit of singing (by opera standards anyway) and it is true that in the great scheme of things her sins are realitively minor, I surpose. Politics and business are just as cut throat, I suppose. But isn't someone who claims to be an artist supposed to above that sort of thing? And some of Te Kanawa's attacks and vendettas have just not been necessary for her own advance. I accept word here are others as bad, but I don't know of them first hand.

  • Absurdly philistine comments. Get off the soapbox, close your eyes, and enjoy one of the most spectacular voices ever recorded. Her comments about Westenra were spot on...Te Kanawa stands for quality, for integrity, and for sublime music such as this that is threatened by commercialism. She need answer to no one.

  • fantastic singing... her crescendo-diminuendo at the opening note is incredible

  • Fascinated where you get this all from?

  • In one instance from a close friend who is a close friend of a singer who claims to have been harmed by her. And from the New Zealand Jounalistic community. And emails sent to another site that comments on the controversy have supported what I say.

  • Thanks for that, it is a cit throat business for sure. But I must say I love her voice. I just think a story has two sides andin opera even more than 2! It is a difficult life and hard and sometimes actions one takes may seem to hold a completely different intention or meaning. With regards Robert

  • I am not a tremendous fan of Handel, but I LOVE this aria!

  • Simplesmente fantástica.Perfeito domínio da voz que tem um timbre único e fabuloso
