BF3 battle blog just confirmed this plane in the upcoming BF3 as a controllable vehicle. New to the series with Bad Company 2, I thought being able to control tanks like the t90 and m1a1 was cool. Flying the blackhawk, HAVOC and apache choppers is even cooler. But as a child when I had my pilot phase the A-10 was the one I wanted to fly. <3

@223o 1. most countries have MIGs, fast but suck at dog fights, 2 the a10 is better at it, 3 the Ax project was started in 1966 so id say no 4. the 30mm GAU 8 a avenger fires depleted uranium armor piercing rounds so i would say its safe to say that its not anti infantry, its anti tank

I'm a weapons loader for the A-10 (AFSC 2W171). The gun can be loaded with a variety of projectiles. We are currently using HEI (High Explosive Incendiary) in Iraq and Afganistan. We kill taliban infantry with it all the time. It is also used against lightly armored vehicles and fortified positions.

No,that is only used against enemy armor. It is expensive and bad for the environment. The last time it was used was in the 2nd Gulf War, Iraq invasion. The different projectiles are color coded for identification. AP is black, HEI is red and yellow and inert/practice is blue.

Actually, it's safe to handle. The DP portion of the projectile is only a small dart that is encased in a metal housing. We aren't directly exposed to the DP when handling or loading the ammo. The problem is related to small fragments that are present at targets that were struck with the DP rounds. Some fragments are small enough to be inhaled or otherwise injested and this can cause serious health problems. That's why ground forces shouldn't go near enemy vehicles hit with it.

1. Yes, the A-10 would not be used in an area until US forces had air superiority.

2.Yes, but they are limited by the number of AGM's that they can carry. The A-10 can carry numerous air to ground munitions in addition to 1173 rounds of 30mm for it's gun. This makes it more effective CAS than any other plane.

3.No, it was designed to kill Soviet tanks in Europe.

4.Yes and no. It was designed to destroy tanks but is also effective against infantry.
