how nice and gentle voices they had in those days, now its just noisy crashing music .and flashing idents. i remember this before going off to school god how time has gone im 33 now lol
Love the chimes and how the music builds up. I must say, this, TVam and especially Channel 4 Daily (RIP) opening themes seem so brilliant compared to what came after.
I'll second that. Listen to the BBC now in the morning (especially Five Live & R4) and all you want to do is go back to bed because of the all the early morning negativity.
Just after the announcer says "A very good morning to you from BBC1", you can hear a womans voice in the background say "5" and you can just here her counting down to the start of the titles.
I was obsessed with these titles as a kid and often recorded them on our Betamax machine. I went on to design tv graphics and titles, now I direct tv ads. All thanks to that spinning spider :-]
It is amazing, I used to watch this every morning when I was a little kid before going off to primary school and I used to have a tape recording of the theme music. I thought that clips like this had got lost in the vaults of time, but luckily not! This really takes me back - thanks for the video clip!
Just read your comment and had to laugh as I loved this tune as well when I was at primary school. This tune makes me feel so nostalgic almost as if evrything was much better in the world when we were young!
My God...what a trip down memory lane for me. I was the Producer at Breakfast Time in Lime Grove who devised these opening titles. Many early morning shoots to produce this one....had totally fogotten how good they were (they don't make them like that any more)
Those were the early days of exciting tv formats. I then went on to help produce Kilroy which was also an exciting new tv format. What fun.

The slide indicates one of the numerous occasions where Ceefax AM (which ran from 0600-0650) was unavailable due to teachnical problems. Sometimes test card F was used, or a stylised apology slide (I have a couple of examples) or on this occasion a standard holding slide. The music is "Bossa For Bees" by Frank Chacksfield.
When about in May was this broadcast?

Health & Safety would have a fit if these were shown nowadays, because of the reckless way the man at 1:00 is getting on the train.

I'm sure I vaguely remember this theme despite it supposedly changing in 1987... when I turned 2.

SO nice to see and hear the inspirational and optimistic touch... modern broadcasters kindly take note.
After all, you are paid a LOT of OUR money. Us less fortunate would like to be cheered up...
Best wishes,
Nick

Brilliant theme tune. Graphics dated a bit, but not too bad. Good to see Frank Bough turned up wearing normal clothes and not lingerie.

That slide's a little crooked, or I'm sitting at an odd angle again.

Was this one of the last times these original titles were shown before it was "yuppyfied" in the same year? They are classic.
