  • Why do Church of Christ people think that other people's baptism is "wrong" just because it wasn't done by a Church of Christ preacher? If you are saved and baptized and you know it, don't let someone who goes to a Church of Christ church tell you that your baptism was "null and void." be strong in your faith. If baptism for the remission of sins is right, then you've done it. Truth is truth, no matter who says it.

  • Baptism is baptism!! It doesn't matter who or where you were baptized. If you were baptized the right way for the right reason the first time, you don't have to do it again! I guess this guy thought he had to be baptized by a "Church of Christ" preacher because the Baptist preacher "did it wrong." If someone baptizes you the right way, the name is notwithstanding as far as who did it.

  • There's a multitude of people out here who think they're "OK" with God simply because they got wet. Satan is using this to deceive people. Don't be fooled people. Water Baptism does NOT = Salvation. Look at all the wet up cult members. Are they saved? NO. It's the misinterpretation and misunderstanding of scripture which this doctrine comes from. Baptism in scripture doesn't always mean water. There's a spiritual baptism as well. Know the difference.

  • @DeeStinger1 You're absolutely right. There's a water baptism and a spiritual baptism, or baptism by fire (Mentioned in the gospels-i.e. The Holy Spirit). Baptism alone, though, cannot save you because you have to have faith in the Lord to achieve salvation. The baptism is only a symbol of your acceptance into the Lord's covenant.

  • Mark 10:38-39 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?" "We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,"

  • Evidently Jesus was not referring to his baptism in Jordan by John the Baptist. There were several disciples who had that baptism before Jesus. There is no question that Jesus was referring to the torture, suffering and death he was going to go through. Jesus was simply telling his disciples that there was going to be a sudden change from their current comfort and popularity into a drastically new situation. The essential meaning of baptism therefore is the same as being born again.

  • The word itself does not imply "immersion in water" as wrongly asserted by many Christian Groups.Either they are ignorant of the other meanings or deliberately hide the other meanings to prove their point.Another meaning of the word is "to dye" where the cloth or thread is given a new color. The processes of dyeing usually involves dipping the material or thread in a dye. There are many other methods of dyeing and the word does not specify any particular mode. The basic idea is "to change totally"

  • Dont listen to this false prophet who twists the word of GOD. Read GOD's word daily and let the Holy Spirit guide you in what GOD's word says. Dont rely on these false teachers for they are as ravenous wolves feeding on their pray...YOU!

1 John 4:1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

    Matthew 7:15Beware of false prophets...

  • Hi Delaney, anyone who follows what the Bible teaches about salvation is saved. However, (most though not all) Baptist groups believe you are saved before you are baptized; where the Bible teaches that one is saved AFTER they believe and are baptized. Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16 along with many other Scriptures say that baptism comes BEFORE salvation, not after. I find that most (though not all) Church of Christ congregations in general teach most accurately what the Bible actually says.

  • delaney12o1 ....... Amen

  • It seemed the caller was more concerned about who dunked him in the water than he was for why he was being baptized. He also said he was baptized into the Baptist church and then baptized into the church of Christ? Perhaps he should be baptized into Jesus Christ as the first century Christians were and then he will be part of the one true church.

  • "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

    (1Corinthians 12:13)

  • @runningchance Yo couldn't possibly know this man's mind. Maybe he was baptized for the wrong reasons. We are to hear the word, believe, repent of our sins and be baptized and then live a Christian life unto death. If this man felt pressured into baptism and didn't do those things I mentioned above...then his baptism was no good!

  • @kelliemcclellan, sounds like you are a leading brother!

  • Wow, what a pleasant, unexpected ending to this clip's call (in contrast to so many calls with hard hearts and stopped ears). Thanks for the encouragement, brother! You just got another Five Stars.

  • as long as God does the saving i can accept that, what do you believe happend to the theif on the cross, or someone who recognizes that they can only be saved thru Christ's work and accepts that a truth, but dies b4 they can be baptized with water?

  • The thief on the cross was probably baptized with John's baptism. He know that Jesus was Lord and that Jesus was coming into a Kingdom. When people talk about the thief on the cross they make it sound like he just came to his belief when he was on the cross but if he didn't have any prior knowledge of who Jesus was then why would he expect a dying man to be coming into a kingdom. How did he know anything about the Kingdom at all? He already knew who Jesus was and was probably a disciple.

  • Jesus and his teachings were very well known in Jerusalem at the time of his crucifixion. The thief obviously knew of Jesus but to say he was probably a disciple or was baptized with John's baptism (repentance) is adding a bit don't you think? Perhaps Jesus simply showed the thief mercy because the thief showed him mercy.

  • The thief on the cross was probably baptized with John's baptism of repentance?? When? Was it before of after he was convicted of theft?

  • He may have heard of Jesus, but certainly was NOT a follower of Him. Keep in mind we know that he was not an innocent man. He even says so himself in Luke 23:40-41: "But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong. (NKJV)"

  • Also, notice the differences in the accounts of these thieves. Matthew 27:44 says "Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing." Similarly, Mark 15:31 says "Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him." - "those" and "robbers" being plural when there were only two.

  • When we compare these accounts with Luke 23:42 - "Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." - we see that the now believing thief went from mocking Jesus to asking Him to remember him when He got to Heaven. We see that he obviously had a change of heart right then and there while hanging on that cross!

  • He was also forgiven. No PreacherNorm, he wasn't previously a disciple. Too often contentious people look at the story of the thief on the cross as nothing more than something to explain away as it seems to take away from their argument. It actually shows the significance and the depth (not to mention the simplicity) of the grace and forgiveness of Christ.

  • Our response to Christ should be just like that of the thief. We too have to come to Christ in the same manner knowing that we too have done wrong and are in need of His forgiveness.

  • Then we need to ask for that forgiveness in prayer. You say that the "sinner's prayer" isn't supported by Scriptures, but Jesus says in Luke 11:9-13

  • *continued* "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

  • *continued* "If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"

  • How do we ask? In prayer of course! Jesus also says in Luke18:9-14 "Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

  • The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other;

  • *continued* for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." So you see we ARE supposed to ask for God's forgiveness in Christ's name (or just for Christ's forgiveness) and for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Who was accepted by God? The Pharisee or the tax collector?

  • And lastly, you are correct in that we are also to be baptized just as every other believer was in the conversion stories of the New Testament. You have, however, no Scriptural basis for attempting to void or nullify the belief or baptism of any believer in Christ, that has been immersed as a conscious person old enough to make their own confession of faith.

  • The only exception to this being a person consistently living unrepentantly in sin after having believed and having been baptized.

  • Remember Paul's word's in 2 Timothy 2:22-26 "Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

  • And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will."

  • hi want to know if what church you came from?

  • @PreacherNorm Water baptism does not save you!!! We are saved by faith alone!!! The thief on the cross was saved by faith in Jesus as Jesus acknowledged him to be able to join him in paradise. We are told that we should receive water baptism as it shows our faith in Jesus. John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Does this say if anyone believeth in him and get baptized??

  • @RaptureOrTribulation do me a favor. Search in your Bible for every passage that uses the word "baptism" and "saved" and tell me what you come up with. Then do a similar search with "faith only" and see what you come up with on that one. Show me where the Bible says what you're saying! Because the Bible says baptism does save you and that we are not justified by faith only. That's the exact opposite of what you said! Don't be deceived by man-made doctrine.

  • @PreacherNorm You have been decieved by man made doctrine. You are the same preacher that is teacing those out there that the rapture isn't real. You are an Apostate preacher. You fail to teach the true word of GOD!

  • @PreacherNorm Geting baptized is a works requirement!! It works and you cannot twist it into anything but that of works!

Galatians 2:16, "nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus

Rom. 10:4, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes (where does it say believes and gets baptized?)

  • @RaptureOrTribulation silly was the church created then????

  • @lovingangil There will be many false teachers and apostate churches.

    2 Timothy 4:3-4 (King James Version) 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

  • 2 Peter 2:1-2 (King James Version)

2 Peter 2 1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

  • Matthew 24:10-12 (King James Version) 10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

  • @RaptureOrTribulation what church do u attend??

  • @lovingangil I go to a Calvary Chapel.

  • @RaptureOrTribulation Sir, the thief was saved by faith alone because Christ had not died yet and he was still under Old Testament Law. You are NOT saved by faith alone! See Acts 10:47-48, Mark 16:15-16, John 3:23, Acts 2:37-38, Acts 22:16, Romans 6:4 and 10:17, Acts 8: 36-39, l Peter 3:21 One must hear, believe, repent, confess and be baptized. Why wouldn't you do so? Why tarry thou, repent and be baptized!

  • @RaptureOrTribulation If I have to get baptized to be saved, it means that I must perform a ritual to be justified before GOD! That is a works doctrine!

Eph. 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. 9Not by works, lest any man should boast."

  • @RaptureOrTribulation

Philipians 3:9, "and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith."

Rom. 4:5, "But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness," (isn't righteousness being right with GOD therefore being saved?)

  • @RaptureOrTribulation Isn't baptizm act as a law? Isn't is a ritual as in a celebration. How can that save us?

Galatians 2:16, "nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified."

  • how can u trust in water for the salvation of your soul?? the natural cannot cleans the supernatural.

  • No one is saying to trust in the water for salvation! The Bible says it is the operation of God (Col. 2:12). Just as God raised Christ from the dead, he raises us up from the watery grave of baptism free of sin. It is in the obedient act of water baptism that Christ washes us from our sins in his own blood (Rev. 1:5; Acts 22:16). It is the obedient act of baptism that puts us into Christ (Gal. 3:26, 27; Rom. 6:3, 4). God does the saving, not the water!
