6 months later I totally hate it! the worst RHCP album so far, Anthony trying so hard to sing pop melodies while he could rock in rappin', the choruses are just awful, not one decent chorus on 14 songs except maybe Brutus, they all sound the same. wish they broke up when John left a couple of years ago, the new peppers are just awful...
riffs that were really memorable and fun to hear, but with the new guitarist he didnt really blow me out the water. Which is actually good because i wouldnt want him to drown Flea and Anthony out with him trying so hard to prove to the fans hes good. I give this album a 7/10. It has its high moments, but like every RHCP it has some songs that are just terrible.
this was a good album in my opinion. Rebirth is a great way to describe it. To be honest the singles were my least favorite songs on the album "adventures of rain dance maggie" and "monarchy of roses" were just annoying to me. My favs were, factory of faith, brendans death song, and goodbye hooray. They all had more pep in their step then the other songs on this album. Flea and Anthony definitely shine on this album, the guitar was kind of in the background for me, Stadiumm arcadium had good
As a fan since 1987!I'm going to have to say this album is absolutely incredible!!!I LOVE IT!!ITS ARGUABLY THERE 2nd best release in the history of the band!!!Welcome back RHCP!!!
I disagree with this review. It was a huge mistake to continue without John. he gave them their musical identity. Their last album SA was their magnum opus. This new record is weak. It lacks coherence. I can't hear the labor of love that their previous albums exhibit. I rank the new album in last place. Their best albums are SAt, then BSSM, then Californication and BTW
And on another note: at this point in their long career, they shouldn't be goin through line up changes + other growing pains.
@misssophie119 i think this album just shows the other members abilities
anthony is singing better than ever, chad and flea are just beasts on this records and flea took the control of the ship and move it back to the funkiness with his bass lines
josh is not frusciante, he is not that great but his job is really good as a back ground maybe not as a lead guitar but creates the perfect ambient for a good rock/pop/funk song
Awesome album review! About the album itself: It's really great! Bought it about two weeks ago and can't stop listening to it! Fortunately I went to RHCP concert in Rock in Rio last week and it was epic! 100000 people dancing, singing going crazy! And the new guitar player doesn't disappoint even in the old songs!!! Every song he tends to do the same as on the original record but he makes kind of different, so there's a little surprise after every single note!!!! They're great live with Josh!!!
I love this guy! He knows his shit!! I'll be beack - ps I agree with him re John vs Josh- love love Flea - yeah star of the show - Flea this time YEAH!!!!
Love his piano - flowed into a child;s piano at end. He is smoothly, yet just into it ly ...This guy is GREAT!!!!!!!! Love his know how and his expression
It's actually my first experience with RHCP. My friends and dad have always recommended them as a good band, but I just hopped on the train. I love this album. All the musicians are very talented, especially Flea.
i bought at hot topic and album and i like it my favorite song is "even you brutus?" and what do you think the song is about? i give the album an 8 /10
i think this is an amazing album they really couldnt have gotten a better person to replace john the his best friends/jam buddies. its different to me it sounds like a mix of stadium arcadium with their older stuff like uplift mofo party and freaky styley but different is good as long as the music is still good which it is and on even ur brutus i think he sounds more like a street preacher he did a similar thing in death of a martion
its a great album, but in my opinion, josh is just as good as john (dont hate, read first) as we all know, johns main inspiration is hendrix, you can hear it in most songs., but josh is more like the edge from u2, i thought the solos were fine, but he uses more effects to add ambiance and an oomph to the song, except he doesnt spam effects like edge does, what im saying is, both guitarist are amazing, but with different styles of playing, when i saw josh play roxy, i thought he was amazing
@filter1996 and i thought this review was fantastic, it was amazing, i loved this album, it was love at first listen, and my favorite songs are definitely monarchy of roses, factory of faith, brendans death song (probably the one ive heard most), ethiopia, look around, rain dance maggie, goodbye hooray, happiness loves company, even you brutus?, and meet me at the corner, but i still though all the songs were just amazing and well done, totally worth the wait, and im waiting for another record
sick review dude. I think its a great album.. The funky timing of Ethiopia sells the album :) I love Josh's work. Its up there with all their other great albums. Job well done.
The album is okay but not the best, but The adventures of raindance maggie is awesome :) espescially the bass line, one of the best bass line's from Flea I've heard :D
I always think it's hard to accommodate yourself to new albums of a band, it usually takes me at least 3 months of listening, but here, just as you said, they're new and fresh, and I'm already listening to I'm with you wherever i go.
Every since I found out you make a little money every time I watch an add in front of your video (which I ALWAYS skip), I now will watch even though it's about pampers or something, just to hook you up 'cause I've watched you improve since you started. I think that you're a pro now and your humor and delivery is very enjoyable.
My humble opinion of the Pepper album ranking. 1)BloodSugarSexMagik 2)Californiacation 3)By the Way 4) I'M WITH YOU 5)Stadium Arcadium 6)Freaky Styley 7)One Hot Minute 8)Red Hot Chili Peppers 9)the Uplift Mofo Party Plan. i LOVE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS!!! Flea is my Bass idol and it is my dream to meet them!!!!!!!!
i think the album is really awesome i enjoyed it but stadium arcadium will always have a head start since its the first rock album i ever bought in my entire life
I totally disagree with the initial opinion that the chili's music cant be as funky without frusciante, because i think their music was at its most funky BEFORE frusciante joined...
I like the new album... Though in my opinion there is still a void-element that needs to be filled. I'm not saying I'm ass-kissing John Fruscianté, but I definately miss the guy.
I'd say: lets combine Josh & John (see, they sound like a couple already) on the next album.
Anyway, my favorite song is " Brendan's Death Song'' and '' Look Around" I guess.
I'm looking forward to seeing them the 16th of Octobre close to my hometown.
By the way, you ARE a yelling sailsman!! nice review though
Sami, i loved your review. I've been a huge fan of the peppers since the first time i heard these guys on the radio. Although i have another question for you about Klinghoffer. What is your full opinion about him? I really want to know what your opinion is about him, but not just from the album, also his future with the band and such?
I actually enjoyed Klinghoffer's solos. I mean they weren't the best thing I've ever heard but I had no problem with them. I don't think they took anyway away from the album. Flea's basswork though is really the best thing about the album. I really dig the album as a whole though. It's my first RHCP album actually, and I'm planning on buying some of their earlier stuff now (even though I know the guitar work will be funkier, which I'm excited for). Yep. Good album!
@dizzyisme I thought you were joking at first, but then I saw this is your first album. If you listen to their early stuff for awhile without listening to this, and go back to it, you'll think it's garbage.
Beautiful review, very well done. Did not upset, RHCP still own the music with flawless precision. Great album. Eternally fixated on Red Hot Chili Peppers =)
And on the review I pretty much agree with you on. And the only thing I didn't really like on the album, is like you say the solos from Josh. I like the idea of them that his not is overplaying in the solos or trying to be John. Is like his doing Anti solos. And like it, but it doesn’t really stick to you like Frusciante solos. But the solo/outro guitar in Goodbye Hooray is actually is pretty sick!
Fantastic review!! One the best I’ve seen (or read) on this album and overall. I really like that you don't give it a number or stars or anything! I hate that!! You can’t rate music like that. Thumps up for that and please keep on making reviews likes these!
Exactlyyyy my thoughts. Imo, Californication and BSSM is better but other than that this is just as good as Stadium Arcadium and By The Way. I really like every song other than Happiness loves company. I like it more every day. I just hope to see some better guitar solos from Josh I think he has room for improvement but his abck vocals were amazing and his rhytm was just flawless.
@RockItOutBlog ok thanks for clearing that up though, it was a good review i agree that josh was very subtle but hes been playing rhythm guitar for them and frusciante for years so thats what he is comfortable with.
great review!!!! i feel the same way!! and on Even you Brutus, i feel his vocals are reminiscent of some of Bob Dylans vocals, especially in his song "Ballad of a Thin Man"
I just bought the new album, I love it &, I will say that I cannot rank Red Hot Chili Peppers albums. I listen to RHCPs songs according to what kind of mood I am in. & no matter what mood I am in, there is always a Chili Peppers song that will suite my mood. I doesn't matter if its a song from their first self titled album or "I'm With You" or which guitarist or drummer is playing on the song, or if you just wake up & have a Red Hot CHili Pepper kind of day. am I the only one who has RHCP days?
dude nice review, still jealous you have had the album for a whole week! I thought it was time to post my approval for you and what you do. This new body of work from the chili peppers is awesome! Frusciante or not, i'm so glad the chili's have continued moving foward as a unit. This album is pretty fucking sweet to be honest, I feel flea had a lot to say with this. It's fucking incredible to hear his bass humping your face every song! Glad to see you back fellas!
Lmfao, I'm subsribing dude. I totally agree with everything you said. I loved the whole album and love how they chose Josh and how he does a different job to the album.
Another successful album review, but I'm surprised that you forgot to mention your Chinese Democracy album review as part of your review credentials (unless you're embarrassed about it).
I enjoyed the album greatly, and that's all I can say (granted I had to quickly adjust to the new guitarist's style within the band).
Sammi on my channel i have 6 songs with/featuring klinghoffer; 4 with his side project dot hacker, 1 with ex-jane's bassist martyn lenoble, and his own cover of thelonious monster's 'anymore'. he's a talented motherfucker.
I for one love this album I mean yeah it's different but it's still good too many critics r hating on this album without giving them a chance I mean this album is trying to beat out today's crappy music of auto tune nd talentless losers
this was an amazing review, and the first video ive watched of yours! I had the album up and checked out everything you pointed out in each song as the video went along and let me say everything you said was completely on point and true. I feel like this album ranks right up there with the funkyness of stadium arcadium and will be one of the best albums of the year. thank you for this review and consider me subcribed!
I wasn't upset when John left because i knew Josh would bring something nice to the table, and i was excited to hear what he had to bring with guitar, and his backing vocals especially
@RockItOutBlog, one of the reasons why I don't have respect for Anthony Kiedis is because he cried when he watched the Justin Bieber movie, he cried tears of joy. I mean seriously, wtf. BEIBER IS NOT MUSIC. I will say it a thousand more times if I have to, and judging someone on their likes of music isn't necessarily right, but seriously....
This guy really knows what he's talking about :D

Hey Sami,
Another successful album review, but I'm surprised that you forgot to mention your Chinese Democracy album review as part of your review credentials (unless you're embarrassed about it).
I enjoyed the album greatly, and that's all I can say (granted I had to quickly adjust to the new guitarist's style within the band).

I think it is one of their top three along with Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Californication.

this was an amazing review, and the first video ive watched of yours!

BigRockMusicFan 6 months ago
@BigRockMusicFan the world may never know the subtlety of sir anthony kiedis' sarcasm.
