This was Cruising speed. Listen to clips from the Destroyer tour, listen to Alive II. They played just about as fast back then. 80s KISS just did it better.
70s KISS often sounded like they could fly right off the rails at any moment at those tempos, but that energy was exciting. 80s KISS, on the other hand, was Built for speed and they were mega-tight.
The energy was exciting in both eras. If you slow KISS songs down too much, they cease to rock. Latter 90s for examples of that.
ERIC CARR,EL MEJOR BATERISTA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS,FORMO PARTE DE LA MEJOR Y ESPECTACULAR BANDA LLAMADA KISS,ERA FANTASTICO VER A ERIC(RIP)VER COMO EJECUTABA CON MAESTRIA LA BATERIA,FUE Y SEGUIRA SIENDO EL MEJOR BATERISTA.SALUDOS A TODOS LOS FANS DE KISS,ATTE......ADOLFO.
Props to Eric Carr. Great job. As far as KISS drummers? Eric was more a Metal drummer. Peter was born for the role. KISS is a classic rock band - not a Metal band. That being said, Eric's work on The Elder is stellar. A great album. A total departure for the band - not KISS. RIP Foxman.
@patrick989nyc This was their "shred metal" stage which was the thing at this time. They even made it a point to bring in a younger gun guitarist, Mark St. John which subsequently became Bruce Kulick to reflect the times. Honestly, I loved hearing songs like Black Diamond and Love Gun at a much quicker tempo...really rocked!
@justinhaIochamp but good singer and! he wasnt singer this was one song i think which was played by eric carr with lead vocals (its beautiful for me, maybe peter has better voice but just a little bit)
The best version I have erver seen or heard! Eric Carr was the best drummer and he made Peter Criss look like a pussy...He played better and sang better than the little toad Criss. It isn't to fast...it was meant to be that way...when Criss played the drums on this song he was lack luster and he sucked...he drank to much and eventually that is why he was let go. Why ruin a good band with a jerk like that!
Eric was a great young man. Talented, with a wicked sense of humor and boundless energy on stage. I was lucky enough to see him perform. His passing was far too soon. But, we do have the videos to remember how truly gifted he was. Thank you Eric, you will not be forgotten. And yes, this version of Black Diamond kicks more ass than a little bit.

I agree Eric Carr was the best drummer Kiss has ever had. This line up by far has been the best, it's tight, strong and boy can they rock!!! I went to so many concerts during this time, I was blown away each time. I also went to several in the 70's, 90's and 00's and yes I'm a huge die hard Kiss fan but Eric Carr was the BEST drummer. RIP Eric.
I'm sorry this version doesn't have the same energy as the original, it seems like it's more sped up but then again I give it more props than the 4 playing now, 2 originals and 2 scabs
I think it's impossible to say which one is better of Peter Criss and Eric Carr. Personally I think Peter Criss is the best drummer of all time, but also Eric Carr.
My conclusion would be:
Peter Criss in KISS in the 80's would gone bad,
but Eric Carr in KISS in the 70's wouldn't be that good eighter...
When Eric Carr plays sings Black Diamond the intense magnitude of his drumming and singing drowns out the vocals because of it's pure epicness Eric Carr>Peter Criss.
@KramerNCharvel hey dumbass, we are not talking about the voice skills, YES peter criss is better at vocals... but come on, peter criss use simple beats and eric carr use a fucking epic beats at all their song
Peter cris sis better on vocals, but erc carr own criss at drums
@Tom01B7 I love both don't get me wrong, but Criss has a certain style and feel to his drumming that just "sounds better" to me and he is the original, the one that made the beats to some of the most recognizable songs in Rock and Roll!
