Hey everyone, I didn't mean to post my last comment three times! Sorry about that. By the way, I can't hear this song enough since I rediscovered it here on youtube...man, 7 minutes goes by so fast listening to this gem
I remember being a kid, listening to late, late night FM radio with the headphones during summer vacation and hearing this song for the first time. That was the only time I heard this song until recently. I never forgot how it sounded...love it!

The two founder members were Brian and Mick. As for the the band, there is Andy Scotts Sweet currently touring and Steve Priest has started touring again.
AS FAR AS I KNOW,THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF THIS BAND RIGHT NOW.SWEET AND THE SWEET.GO WITH THE ONE THAT HAS PRIEST AS THE BASSIST.HE IS THE ORIGINAL FORMER OF THE BAND.
If you listen right towards the end to the funky bass jam, it reminds me of the funky bass styling of John Taylor from Duran Duran. I bet he likes this song!
Right on, I totally forgot about this one...I'm 12 years old again!
To the people debating if it was "The Sweet" or just "Sweet", it was originally "The Sweet", as it was very common to put a "the" before the name of the band in Britain way back in the 60s. For example, "The Pink Floyd", The Cream, The Yardbirds, and yes, even The Led Zeppelin.
Everyday of my 45 years old life I've always thought this was ELO. Sorry I'm not a purist but that's what I think. Oh and I just heard this cookie cutter pop song that some corporate music company shit out for our kids to listen to. They sampled the guitar from this song and stole some old hip hop vocal piece for a hook.
A great song. Just about the end here for them. I am pretty sure they were falling apart internal by the release of this track. The guitarist I always thought was ahead of his time and an innovator. Sweet is truly unique in their sound. Four part harmony may have been done by elo but the skill of this lead player is allot heavier
I was supposed to see these guys in Honolulu (at least the 2 remaining members) but they bailed on the concert. Once I found out the lead singer was dead I lost interest anyway...back in the day these guys rocked it great.
Just saw Sweet live a couple of nights ago and can't get this song out of my head. This blew the crowd away - such a brilliant track. Good to see Andy still rockin. RIP Brian and Mick.
No it is not. Written and performed by The Sweet. Totally different sound and, I'm sure Jeff Lynne might have covered this but you will have to check yourself. I cannot hear any similarity to ELO's work in this track and I think followers of ELO would have berated me by now if I had tried to pass this off as one of their songs!!
I disagree. I really think The Sweet was much more harder rock sound than ELO was. And The Sweet came along with the bands and artists that made up the movement known affectionately as "Glitter Rock", in about 1972 - 73 (along w/ David Bowie, Elton John {when their careers really started skyrocketing}, etc.), while ELO came along in a little bit more of a "staid" time (as well as being maybe more nostalgic) in 1975 - 76.
@aironatape I kindly disagree with you. In my opinion, the two bands do share stylistic similarity, e.g. "Mr. Blue Sky." If you recall, other artists have similarities within certain genres, such as Led Zepplin and Billy Squire, Lover Boy and Aldo Nova. When I was a kid, I loved this song, because they reminded me of ELO. Opinions are subjective, however.
Amazing tune. This is the only way it should be played on the radio. The shorter version is a let down. Like Bohemian Rhapsody without the opera portion.
This song is absolutely brilliant and in it's 12" version is a true masterpiece! I remember this song from 1978 when I was still at school. Thank you for posting. RIP Brian......
Brian certainly had an excellent range in his voice and it was unfortunate he chose the bottle instead of helping make The Sweet one of the great bands ever seen.
love...

It does sound like ELO, but I know it's not. Never thought about it, but since it was mentioned...yeah, this track is that same style.
I like the ripping sweet tracks like No You Don't, Set Me Free, etc...of course, I love this one, too. ;)

I agree that this is ELO-esque, not written by ELO, just very similar in sound and style of Jeff Lynne's sound.
I think you misinterpreted nvrxnor's comment

Dude, how can you say it's a 'totally' different sound?
Between the keys/synth &
killer harmonies (a trademark)
it's quite natural for
people to think it's ELO.
Except that The Sweet preceded ELO
by three years.
Both great bands and not unreasonable to hear similarities.

I was speaking strictly in respect to chronology.
The Sweet's debut was '68 & ELO's '71.
And my implication was merely to say that it was reasonable to hear 'LILO' or another The Sweet tune and
think it was ELO.
I would agree that The Sweet were harder rock than ELO but, 'Glam Rock' (not glitter)
was popularized by artists/groups
such as T~Rex, Bowie, Slade and
The Sweet, + others but,
Elton was certainly NOT in the genre.
No matter how flamboyant his stage attire. 8D

@1968Celeste Word, the vocals do sound a lot like ELO, especially with the high pitch harmonization.
