  • damn time. no one believes 2&3 dollar shows. they missed it.

  • I had this one on a compilation album which i couldnt sttop playing, other good tracks too, anyone have a copy?

  • One of my favourite tracks ever!

  • @puddledoo i like how you use "track" instead of "song" since this is called Train to Nowhere:D

  • @kjl2127 Heh heh - I didn't even realise my own 'pun'!

  • This train I ride goes to God knows where

    I don't know and I don't care...

  • @robertschelly i don't care either bro' as long as the tunes are good on the line!

  • Those were the days, my friends. This song goes into infinity.................

  • Next Stop: American Music 2011!!

  • RIP Rivers Jobe.

  • this was the first savoy brown song i ever heard and i've been hooked ever since....

  • I'm still on that train.

  • Chris Youlden on vocals, one of the best blues voices from the UK !!

  • @radiosnack: Chris Youlden

  • i'm watching right now on that episode about 333 guy D:

  • This song has been in my repertoire since '71 - I did a killer version on acoustic for my therapist last year. I do a pretty good Chris Youlden.

  • I think it is Bryce Portis ?...

  • I saw them perform this song at The Dome in Brighton, UK in 1969. They were supporting Jethro Tull. Can anyone remember who the singer is here?

  • absolutely great track from their album, 'blue matter' great album. this song is one of my top favs. such a driving beat. pounding, intense and just killer.

  • absolutely great track from their album, 'blue matter' great album. this song is one of my top favs. such a driving beat. pounding, intense and just killer.

  • Always loved this song

Saw 'em play in Detroit way back

  • Out of nowhere, a voice said type in Savoy Brown in the YT search box. (I hadn't thought of this group consciously in 20 or even 30 years). Wow, I still love this one!!!! Train to nowhere, man. We're all on it!!!!

  • A truly fantastic tune.

Bouncing bass and beat, sweet lead....and Youldens voice?

    Bliss indeed!!!

  • Brill aint heard it for ages

  • still cuttin out the vynl then... you can tel by the sound its clean

  • 333

  • S.B. you are welcome here anytime, you were always an underrated band, great blues, God Bless

  • saw them at panther hall in 68 or 69 in ft. worth. man, we had it good!

  • This was so compelling all those years ago an has a quality of a big country just taking everyone on and forcing each one to tell their story. Its great to hear again.

  • amazing song

  • CSI NY!

  • Hey, This a a seminal track that U.K. guys recognize, South London particularly, the Savoy Brown Band in U.S. nowadays is Kim Symonds living there with a new 'yardbrush' It cannot be the same without Youldon the vocalist.

  • I first heard this band at a small community college ....I was amazed

  • This is the song that REALLY turned me on to the Blues

  • Great post. Thank you!!!!!!

  • I'm a musician and I,too, heard this on CSI:NY. I love hearing gems like this that I had never heard of before. As soon as I heard that trudging rythym, it piqued my curiousity about this band. Awesome! Listening through headphones to hear how they build the momentum in the song and that steady bass line and pounding drum beat just propel this tune. A great British impression of the Delta Blues!

  • @willie1227 Loved hearing your thoughtful comments on this great song. I bumped into it exactly the same way. There was something so mesmerizing about it that I ran to my computer to grab a copy, and do some exploring.

  • British blues at its best

  • Wow; a great and heavy song. I remember first hearing TTN in the early 1980s and thinking, "My god, who are these guys?" Too heavy to achieve pop status, only for select consumption.

  • Everyone, let the train take U....iiiiiiiiiiii...its free people...iiiiiiiiiii...if u want to ride, 1st class!!!

  • this stuff makes my everyday...

  • saw them live a few months ago, great live still

  • @SonRegal no shit!!? that would be a treat if they anywhere close to this.

  • this is savoy brown at thier best chris youlden has a great presence on this track

  • I found out about this song from csi ny

  • This is one of my favorites! Saw them in New Orleans in 90 at a Jim's. :D

  • @jesuswasntafascist WOW, somehow I missed that show - was it at Jimmy's Music Club off of Carrolton Ave?

Chris had left the bad long before that, but they were and are great band to see live.

  • @1blastman I do believe that was the place! :)

  • Thank you Kim for being part of my life´s soundtrack !

    Thanks for posting islanderview.

  • look at all the people benifitting the blues look at the stories down below,i love you all blues people

  • sweet band

  • the brown helped restore me to sanity one dark and stormy nite in detroit. their boogie, in particular, blew my mind more than any other live band i had heard.

  • i was a little kid listening to this song on a tape in my dads old ford cortina in the 80 s the first time i heard real music thanks

  • thank you for this......... i had forgotten so much..... this is a kick start.....

  • I recorded this track from John Peel's show (was it called "Top Gear"?) in about 1968/9 and played it endlessly until I was able to find a record shop that had the album in stock.

    Great memories!!!!

  • if i could just go back ..... what a great time to have grown up in ... we were lucky .... :)

  • thanks for sharing your archive...super!

  • I bought this album from David's Bookshop Letchworth, perfect, and played it to everyone I could. You are right about the time machine Rowlffffff, I paid shillings only, to see (and hear) many of those great bands, oh well - part one!

  • oh god Ii feel old.

  • look at the shows on those posters!!! somebody warm up the time machine!!!

  • Thanx for posting !

Thought I was the only one who liked Savoy Brown in the world. Great group and great music from a dreamy, spacey, lovely time that is unlikely to repeat. The Best. Hope you were there...

  • been listening to SAVOY since the early 70's....i'll take them over ANY group today...most of the music generation of today has NO IDEA what pure music is.

  • Boogie Blues

  • I was there in 1968 at Plumpton (or at least I think I was!!) Were you? I was the paper boy!!!!

  • excellent. thank you.

  • First heard this in 1969 on the Decca compilation 'World of Progressive Music'. It was actually released as a single, I couldn't believe it wasn't a #1. Been in my personal Top ten singles ever since. They should have a top draw along with Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull.

  • the first time i heard this was on csi new york 2 !!!!!! class episode !! lol!!

  • yeah, i heard it first in csi: ny too..haha

  • Kim Simmmons & Chris Yolden were magic together in the early SB years, several great albums!!

  • Savoy Brown and Mott the Hoople was my first concert in 1972 at Valley Forge Music Fair...I agree buzz , They are great, I forgot about them for a few years.....I think I'll see them again, 37 years later. Amazing!

  • Saw them in '71, Long John Baldry and Fleetwood Mac OPENED for them. They were flawless. Great vocals, great songs, and Kim Simmonds is one of the most underappreciated guitarists out there-and he STILL kicks ass! Their first 4 or 5 albums are gems-if you love the blues, get 'em.....you will NOT be disappointed!!

  • This song is amazing!!

  • I think I first heard this on a sampler album, called Wowie Zowie.

  • I wish I had the tabs to this amazing song. Simmonds is such a kick-ass player.

    I also love Youlden's voice,

As if that's not enough, they have TROMBONES!

    What a touch.

  • i hear this in CSI New York after Mac was abducted

  • me too!

  • His vocal is most eerie on this tune, but you've got to love it. 'If you've no money don't despair, cause you don't have to pay no fare..'

  • you have to love it its the best savoy brown moment ever the timming is superb on this i first herd this when i randomley brought a blues comperlation cd that was ten years ago it blew me and my head away

  • can someone tell me another good song beside this song

  • not for savoy brown its the best you can hear chris youldens vocal is the best on this infact the whole band are perfect

    Full 5's~

  • Quite a collection! Most shows were five bucks back then. So much for 60's idealism :)

  • Savoy Brown such an underrated band, they are my favorite blues rock band. hands down.

  • @RushAnthem69 - Absolutely ...You Got That Right... saw them at a small venue in 1971 at the Central Theater, Passaic NJ, USA.... Friends and I already loved this band but that night they were perfectly amazing... we kept saying... what an incredibly tight band... it was a great line up with Kim at that time and those early albums are classics.

  • Or you can get The Train To Nowhere

  • Love your video. All those old bands passing by. I immediately started finding some on YouTube. Great memories.

  • Peace......DR.Z

  • Savoy Brown/Blue Matter. Beautiful album.

  • this is in season 4 ep 10 of csi ny

  • yeah i heard it on CSI too, awesome song!

  • I remember when I was 14 in 1970. I spent a year in London. All the posters you see above were everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. Great bands were putting on shows all the time...all over the place. What a time it was to be alive and young. It didn't get much better. Humble Pie, Ten Years After, Pink Floyd, Mott The Hoople, The Mothers, Taste, The Who, Traffic, Atomic Rooster, and many many more big names who were common place in London. And the hashish....PRIMO!!!

  • i cant find train to nowhere god! wheres the song no where on web

  • great video, really takes you back. i was 12 in 69. i was a huge music fan allready at that age. i remember most of the names put up on the video, and savoy brown are one of the greatest blues bands to come out of that era. thanks for sharing.

  • Great band Great song, Great video!

    Thanks for the upload.

  • Thanks for the 4th well-wishes, Islander.

BTW, that octave-jumping bass-line by the Doors is "Love me two times". Similar but not same as 'Leaving again', of course.

    God save the Queen !

  • SWEET !

Ah, filled some potholes on my sieve-like

    Memory Lane.

But U.S. style - early Electric Factory.

    Thanks!

"I'm leaving again" by Savoy - has octave-jumping bass line similar to a Doors tune..will get back on that!

    Happy 4th

    oops - sorry - a Yank thing.

  • Great post.

  • Used to frequent a pub in Oxford called the Oranges & Lemons in late 60s and Train to Nowhere used to be played so loud it would ring in your ears all night long. Now? Pub gone. UK? unrecognisable from those days. UK to nowhere now or... Hellbound?

  • Sad very sad.

  • Sorry - that was a reply to one of 1339Labrosse´s comments, about great music never dying

  • I love Savoy Brown. Check out Steamhammer, another great band from the same era.

  • i herd it on CSI ny
