Fine performance. I do feel like their should be a bit more of a pause between the phrasing on the chords at introduction. Also, what is up with the hyper-involved registrar? This piece isn't terribly demanding, especially when the ostinato isn't even present.
Damn. Took me years to learn hand-foot independence for playing on the drumset, and from the looks of it organs take that concept to a new level. No way I could ever learn to be a competent organist...I've been playing piano for many years, but to press notes with my feet in addition to everything else is simply beyond me.
Yes, it is difficult at times, but with practice it gets much easier, I can tell you from my experience. And when you get better, it is a wonderful instrument to play that gives you and incredible sense of power, especially on larger instruments.
Good playing and organ... It's nice to see this Carillon posted - lots of the Westminster, so good to have a least one of the Lonpont!
I am curious about one thing though... Why does the organist rely on the page turner to open and close the swell box when he has both feet free to do it??
Yeah the assistant shouldn't need to do that. But I will admit that when it comes down to it, the swell pedal can be harder to learn than you would expect at first.
The organ is missing its façade, the young man seems unable to do the simplest tasks at the organ, he also apparently can't locate a barber so as to look presentable for his performance, and he marches off the stage as if ashamed for folks to see his face. The playing, however, is to be admired!
That is the modern trend in organ cases. Ridiculous, isn't it. Tricks to save money. Most organs built today are downright ugly. The length of his hair is not our concern. That is his right and has nothing to do with his ability to perform. We must not impress out standard on other people. Should he walk straight and look left??
NO - Your comments are subject as all usually are. I am in Korea. This "Assistant bit, event o push pistons or hand register is all the rage here. Mostly women organists of mediocre talent, Usually Baroque programs on imported German trackers. None of them know a damn about organs, quality or whatever. My criticism is that we should not make comment of performers appearance. His affair, Right?
Okay, in the future I shall try to avoid commenting on people's appearances, unless they obviously desire such comments. I'm sorry to hear that things are so bad in Korea!
The metronome can be a handy tool to improve control of tempo, but should never govern a performance.
You are right. Here the schools demand that the tempo be strict, even in recital. They are very addicted to German trackers here. High pitch, filled with mixtures and rattling reeds. electric pull down magnets (Did I say "Tracker") & splitting bone or soaked wood keys. Miserable squeek boxes.
It's funny - my first exposure to a pipe organ was an electro-pneumatic organ, and I thought it was the e.p. mechanism that made it click and clatter. Then last year, some 16 years later, I was able to more closely inspect this organ, and found that it was a poorly located keying relay that was making all the noise. Without the relay, the mechanism was inaudible from outside the pipe chambers. 500 character comment limit, you-STUPID-tube!
Without the relay, the mechanism was inaudible from outside the pipe chambers. This is understandable, since the action is almost entirely contained within the wind chests, and the magnets are very low power and their armatures move only about 1 mm. Then recently, from watching youtube videos, I found that tracker organs are noisier by far than electro-pneumatics! 500 character comment limit, you-STUPID-tube!
Considering the fact that mechanical noise is not only distracting, but is a symptom of an inefficient transfer of energy, some of these organs must be a real bear to play! Can the organist really achieve touch sensitivity with 3 or 4 manuals coupled? I suspect most of them have "helper magnets" connected as soon as you couple manuals!
Actually I wonder - student recital? They have them here. They do not teach registration, phrasing, strictly by metronome. OMG - Wake me up when over. Compared to here this kid is a Virgil Fox. except he is unable to do the simplest tasks at the organ. Is that a quote? You opinion is underestimated - At least $.25. LOL I agree that case is the epitome of crass, and in Europe, already!!!
I think the "nurse" is wonderful! Wish I had one too! Great job. Keep up the good work. (Who cares how you pedaled...it works) (Keanur...get out your dictionary.)
Curious pedaling.. The player should show more enthousiasm and the nurse could sit outside the picture! Measures 61-62, play an octave higher, as written in the score.
Is that an 8' Trompette in the facade ? How odd!

I must be blind but I can't see the page turner attacking the swell pedals . . .
Lovely playing ! Thanks!

At 1:35 she does. Or perhaps that's actually a rather peculiar game of footsy?
boltonbrowne 3 years ago
Yes! Quite right. And the organist's feet are on the bench rail, unengaged at the time. How romantic! Can we hear wedding bells?
latribe 3 years ago
LOL! Matchmaking are we?
Well, I must say, the only thing these people have in common is long and quite lank hair. o.0

She certainly does! Around 2;25-2:30
Don't like so many "cédez" at the ends of phrases.

Did they run out of money for a decent case? Pity: it's the only 'Longpont' on YouTube. Regards, Paul.

I like seeing the inside of that division.
Too bad the camera was not aimed higher

That was my impression of the performance. Take it for what it's worth! (probably < $.02)
