The real peculiar thing is guitarists do their best to duplicate sounds from past players. Many of those musicians had limited or no effects... plug and play. I'm a player and have played out on many levels and can't even imagine going through this much to get a sound. Amazing what's it has come to...

Hendrix used the same guitar for an entire gig and only played a few his entire career. Playing one guitar for every song only proves that John does not have tone coming from his fingers. His sound is completely based on gear and guitars.

Personally, I'm a minimalist, when you need to switch guitars for every song I think you have reached the realm of ridiculous. I'd love to have all those guitars too, but having all that gear does not make you any better than a guy who plays one guitar. All the gear you need is your fingers and your heart.

John wanted resonance through the wood, being able to feel the vibrations when you play it, which also affects the tone, but he made his signature have no lacquer which creates better resonance. Something Stevie Ray Vaughn started with his earlier signatures
