Ok, to all those QQing about the magic box mechanic being broken; some examples:

Thors counter Mutas UNLESS you magic box

Also

Banelings counter Marines UNLESS you split Marines

Also

Siege Tanks counter Lings UNLESS they're out of siege

Counters are purely situational and heavily dependent on micro/mechanic-awareness etc. That's what makes this such a great game. There is no such thing as a pure hard counter.

Not sure if this was already mentioned... at one point you said Idra and Tarson had an even economy, pointing out the mineral income. At that time, Idra was pulling 700 gas to Tarson's 400. Don't forget to compare gas rates too... especially when Terran mineral numbers tend to be inflated due to mules.

Marines can still counter mass muta's so all the people whining about magic box should get over it. Poor Terran cant go all mech and completely slay all things Zerg anymore.

They really need to patch this "Magic Box" crap. As it is currently, Thors get rocked by muta even though they're meant to counter them.

I say this as a Random or Zerg player. It's just annoying when faulty mechanics are used to win games. Same goes for burrowed FGs and NPs by Infestors.

@Virility All the terran's money went into marauders and hellions. Idra kept picking off 2-3 thors with 15-20-25 mutas, T would have stood a chance if he had all his thors in one place. Just can't beat that many with so little. Why are you surprised?

@Virility So whatcha gonna do, if you play it right you should be able to win, even if it's a counter or not, I mean he had over 20 mutas which is over 2000 minerals and gas, the thors on the other hand ( didn't count them) might have been for the price of 1,2kish or something totally. The thors are just sick these days tho, they got no counter without carriers it seems.

@WinnysChannel That's why they're called a "counter" to mutalisks. That's their role. There are other solutions to that problem. Sticking to Mutalisks when your opponent has the counter to them is like continuing to mass Marines vs. Colossus. It's stupid.

You start going off about being able to win whether or not Thors are a counter given the numbers; then you go on to say Thors are "sick these days and nothing counters them without carriers." I reply that Thors are supposed to smoke Mutalisks as that's what they're meant to counter (small air). Then you reply "More Thors to kill the Mutas... stupid"?

On topic, I don't care about races, or what is balanced or not. All I said initially is that "Magic Boxing" was nothing more than exploiting a broken mechanic. I still think it is. I guess we'll have to see if it's patched or not to get the final verdict.

@Virility I don't understand what broken mechanic is being exploited. Is it move command? Stop or hold? I don't think using the best command for a situation is exploiting. The mechanic that has mutas not clump is only "broken" if you think mutas should always suffer splash when attacked.

I don't want to be rude but you should seriously pay more attention to what you're saying. You call Mutas Hydras but that's forgiveable since you're trying to improve on that, but what's up with calling 20 Mutalisks 27? A row of units = 8. two rows = 16. etc.

not even a mention of Idra's magic box use to anti-clump those mutas and 100% negates all splash damage from thors when its the whole point of the game kinda show your lack of knowledge as a caster lol

@dolpiff Too be fair, the magic is pretty new so its somewhat excusable that this caster doesn't know about, espically since in another match Day9 also doesn't realize Idra is using this technique. Also Idra doesn't even use it this game. Go to where Idra attacks 5 minutes into the match and you can even see where Idra uses the attack command instead of moving behind the thors.

Thors actually used to hard counter mutas, but with using a newly discovered micro method, known as the magic box (its on team liquid)

the counter dies and terran is a little less OP
