  • Epique!!!Puissant!

  • incredible, wow, there is nothing like it, to see a such a stupendous actor and a magnificent singer.

the last note will knock anyone off their feet, and modern singers don't seem to come anywhere close to it, although they are good, this is beyond great.

  • Simply superb! Heartbraking performance. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us.

  • Absolutely Sensational...BRAVO!

  • From what year is this film?

  • Wonderful Video!!! " Your master is not dead, He lives not far away."....... So powerful! Thank you!!!!!!

  • Beautiful stuff!

  • Chaliapin's "Death of Don Quijote" in the English version is one of the most poignant pieces of singing that I have ever heard. The French version is sung extremely well but it does not affect me like the other one.

  • It is fascinating to hear the great Chaliapin singing in English. His highly melodramatic style and almost growling enunciation are riveting. I can almost imagine what he must have sounded like to Russians watching something as intense and dramatic as one of their great national historical dramas. Very, very, moving clip. Thank you!

  • Yes, that last note during the final credits is incredible. A DVD is available from VAI which includes both the English and French versions. GET IT!

  • how could a person withhold tears! the moment where Sancho is clutching his donkey, so easily made into a joke, is so heartbreaking. and, really, where does Chaliapin's last note COME FROM? it is magic.

  • Tonight I'mg oing to post Chaliapin singing the Massenet version.

  • I do have the French version but I thought that the English version would be more understandable for most viewers. And I am having upload problems.

  • I'm not having uploading trouble for the moment, so I posted a video response featuring the French version of Ibert's song. Should be online shortly.

  • Nice to see you back! I'm getting killed over here... love your uploads. (I can't agree more with Bing)

By the way, Do you have the French version of this film, directed by G.W.Pabst in 1930? I have both versions, and I think the scenes and songs are much better than this English version.

    P.S.

    Did you check the message?

  • A video response featuring the French version of Chalyapin's interpretation of Ibert's song should be online shortly.

  • Great! have you been having any upload trouble lately? im gettin killed over here... love your uploads.
