regardless the lyrics, the music and Conors voice in this one..it's so fucking sad,I feel like a zombie all day long,it's like some childhood memory buzzing in my mind
The sad part is that anyone friend or foe would bicker about the music that is so free of the diabetic consumerism infecting our world...conner is an original, i think he gets that...without being about it. there have been moments in my life when this young man better defined for me these selfish obsessions that damn us all than anything i could verbalize...and truly sir i thank u for it. next time ur around, roseland, wherever...conner I'll be there brother
He def has the smoothest tone and timing with his voice i've ever heard. its something about the slur.... its just gets me in every song. MoF IS FKN AWESOME IN CONCERT!!!!!!!! omg jim james is a madman haha
@BurntByTheMoon44 btw conors friend who put a needle in his arm (and was just a shape that moved) is now working as a counselor in a treatment center for chemical dependency in central ohio
the way this song starts is so similar to ahead of the curve by monsters of folk. it starts on the same note, and both singing starts at the same time after the song begins. anyone else agree?
This song reminds me so much of Touch. The meanings are so different but the feelings are still the same. Both seem ghostly in their first impressions, but deeper personal meanings change them all so much.
me too! I really love this song AND his voice. I'm tired of peopel saying it's too whiny. They obviously don't get it. All of his songs have amazing lyrics. Conor just can't stop being awesome, haha. Seriously, have you listened to Monsters of Folk? It is different from Bright Eyes, but the song Temazcal is simply amazing.
I know!! His voice is just out of this world. I can't even explain! Someone I know said his voice sounds "gay"!!! I was like what!?!
It's like he can do nothing wrong with his music? I like his Monsters of Folk stuff too, but Despareciados, I could go on for days. I swear, he's amazing. The video for First Day Of My Life!
I've heard that too! I've heard him be called emo which makes me mad too. But yeah the song Lover I Don't have to Love has a line that goes, "I wanna boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk " and people think he's gay because of that. And I'm thinking, my god you guys are taking the lyrics too literally!
oh I love Desaparecidos! I love this one line from Hole In One that goes, "I tell myself I shouldn't be ashamed. BUT I AM!" So genius. It gives me chills.
I know! I don't know how someone's voice sounds gay really? Yeah, I heard he's been called emo before as well, I don't really see how he's emo though? Do they really think he's gay just because of a line in a song? Wow.. that's bad, it's only a line in a song and only Conor know's the meaning! But they do take them too seriously though.
Desparecidos are just as good as Bright Eyes, I like them because they are completly different to Bright Eyes and they are just as amazing! But he's a genius.
Ugh, they are just stupid. They obviously don't listen to his music closely enough. I mean, when I listen to Bright Eyes stuff, yeah some songs might seem kinda depressing, but I feel like there's always something about it that is hopeful. And obviously the people who call him emo or his music emo don't hear that. So, whatever.
I hate when people believe Conor is ALWAYS singing about his life. He's not. If his is, his life is fucked up, haha.
Conor's a storyteller! He tells the lives of others
@BurntByTheMoon44 It is just stupid. And that's right, because you need to listen to the music to understand what it's about, and what it's saying. When I listen to Bright Eyes I don't find those sogns depressing at all. I find them more happy, because his voice makes them that way, even if they are about something bad. But that's true though, he could be singing about his friends, etc. Not his own life.
I wish I would've found out about him earlier though, I only heard him this year!
@BurntByTheMoon44 Also, I wish I would've been able to listen to his music when Bright Eyes first started out, you know in the late 90s! It would've been amazing to be able to listen them from then until now, but I was only young then.
Yeah I wish I could've have listened to his music earlier and gone to one of their concerts! Oh man, that would have been amazing. I'm most definitely going to go to one for Bright eyes' last album, if that's true. Nothing's going to stop me. I'll just drive all the fucking way, even if it's in Mexico or something, haha.
I went to a Monsters of Folk concert. Fucking awesome!
Yeah, I know. It would've felt amazing to be part of all that, and be around for all of Bright Eyes, like you would've felt like an actual part of it. I wish I could go see Bright Eyes! But I don't think they'll do many gigs in the UK, I know MOF did some, but they weren't close to me. There was in London, and they played Bright Eyes songs, and everything. And it lasted three hours!! It looked amazing.
But you are lucky though, going to see MOF! It would be amazing. I'd never want to leave.
I'm saying that Conor Oberst's music changed me...completely. Before, I listened to such generic music with lamo lyrics. And perfect voices.
But Conor's music makes me like bands (and Bob Dylan) not only because the tune's cool or the lyrics were decent. Haha, now i'm more mature with the kinda music I like. I like songs more for the lyrics and the meaning.
Yeah, I do like Conor Oberst more than Bob Dylan. I'm more familiar with Conor's work though so that's probably why.
Anyone notices the "You got ahead of me"part is quite the same in that song of the Digital album?

But yeah, I know what you mean. It has the same kinda thing where he goes back and forth from low to high notes in the beginning.
