I agree that this isn't a monologue for a teen. There needs to be maturity, world weariness with this monologue. This person is too emotional and sounds too much like she's experiencing teen angst. As is the case with people who are serious about suicide, Jessie should be matter of fact, even happy, not overflowing with angst.
The idea of the project was not to play Jesse. It was to take a monologue out of context and have it relate to you. I didn't choose the role to be Jesse I chose it to express myself
this is too emotional. jessie made up her mind and has come to a surreal level of peace. she is not at all upset like this. and jessie is in her late 30's. this role is too young for you. i know this is just high school, but why did the teacher allow you to play a role that was not for someone your age? try something from "this is our youth" by kenneth lonnergan.
what happened to the real night mother someone put on you tube. sorry but this piece is not as passive as Jessie was, someone please bring back the real "night mother"
A powerful piece. You sell it, but I might suggest you tone it back a bit. Jessie is not as overly emotional as you've made her. She has come to a peace within herself, and part of what is so haunting is that she is rather calm and rational while saying to Thelma something that seems outrageous. It makes perfect sense to Jessie, though. She's not upset. She's actually quite content with her decision. Strong performance, though. I would just suggest you try a more subtle approach. Less is more.
That was a really powerful preformance. I'm doing this monologue as a final exam for my drama class and I have to say that was excellent and I hope mine is as good as yours
would you be a doll, what is the actual monolouge. like the words, i am interessted in it for an audition.

I have a question. Has anyone ever heard of a production of "Night, Mother" where Jesse was played by a male actor? I think it would be interesting.
