@sigmapsicharlie doubt u'll see a dsm in the uk time attack series.. simply because we don't have them here! im sure theres plenty in the redline time attack series though...
slotted dont have the ability to evenly dissipate heat and therefore crack rotors in track cars.
street cars that dont see tons of track time are OK to run drilled (like Mercedes does OEM) but once you start boiling brake fluid regularly you better watch out for cracking.
Proof that Mercedes expects their customers to drive like pussies. JK
If you want to drive aggressively and trust your brakes...go with maybe 2 piece slotted for light weight and longevity and heat dissipation (DBA5000 series or higher). or, REALLY well vented, top of the line normal flat rotors if you don't drive like a mofo but still want to have some fun occasionally and not worry about glazing your brakes. You will be better off than drilled.
@EnzoFirrari2k6 i have run solid blanks on lighter weight track cars. civics, sentras, miatas without any issue at the track, pad glazing is only present in daily driving conditions where youre not laying on the brakes every single stop.
i would only run a complicated 2-piece rotor-hat combo on something that weighs around 3000lbs otherwise, youre adding unsprung weight to the outside corners of the car, the worst place to have excess weight. unless the new, bigger rotor was aluminum... ;)
Uhh a liiiiiittle off there bud. 2 piece rotors are almost always lighter than 1 piece unless you have like...solid titanium rotors lol. It's the reason you buy 2 piece - reduce rotational unsprung weight. I run light wheels, lugs, driveshaft, crank pulley, ohlin inverted struts, aluminum control arms front and back etc. The 2 piece DBA rotors are ~25% lighter than stock brakes on my car.
@EnzoFirrari2k6 all i was saying is that any 2-piece rotor thats large enough to warrant being a 2-piece rotor is going to weigh more than a small cars factory brakes. my miatas OEM front brakes weigh much less than any of the bigger brake kits out there for it, and ive never had an issue with fade or glazing on good pads. it would be counter intuitive for me to run a real big 2-piece kit on that car since it stops fine anyway, and the only shit out there is HUGE, almost show car status
A 2 piece rotor does not imply big brake kit. I don't know where you got that idea, but get rid of it. 2 piece stock-size replacement rotors exist for many manufactured vehicles. (that's exactly what I'm installing - and other than the original purchase, it's the same cost as powerslot stock-size 1 piece replacement rotors).YES a bigger rotor will weigh more...that's common sense. But ALL variables equal, a 2 piece rotor has a noticeable weight advantage over a solid rotor.
But well vented solid blanks ARE just fine for most applications. Even light track events and auto-x. For high speed heavy braking on semi-heavy cars, you're gunna glaze them. I did it...on a track and a canyon run lol. Scorched my old blanks so bad you couldn't stop without the car shaking so bad that my mirror fell off. Not fun when two cars simultaneously cut you off on the way to work.
Slotted rotors allow a path for material to escape from in between the pad and rotor, but do not have the high potential to crack under mid to high heat applications.
I received drilled rotors for free, but I drive hard constantly. Cracked every single hole on the rotors. a few of the cracks are over an inch long and some extend all the way to the outer edge(not safe). For free, yeah I'll take them - get a few months out of em. If I'm paying...no fucking way. Slotted and well vented.
