@ItsKrishal - The CMOS sensor lets it shoot continuously images at 10 FPS or Quarter-VGA (320x240) video at 240 FPS. When played back this high-speed mode looks like slow-motion by a factor of 8X.
@WeAre2FamousEnt - The P90 cannot shoot HD. This feature was added when Nikon started using CMOS sensors with the P100 and now P500 ultra-zooms. The compact P300 also does it too. See another of my videos.
Question for anyone to answer please: Is the video quality in 720p in youtube vids the same as it would look on an hdtv? i ask this since hd in my hdtv doesn't look as sharp and detailed as youtube hd vids. i have a polaroid 19 inch hdtv. thanx
@goalkeeper994 That is impossible to answer precisely since I do not know what computer you have, what monitor, resolution and size of YouTube player you use. That being said, your TV is probably incapable of producing a sharp HD image since it does not have a native HD resolution (1440x900 is not HD). That forces it to oversample which makes things softer. Buy yourself a real 720p (or better a 1080p) HDTV with _dot-for-dot_ mode. This will give you the best sharpness.
@hannahduhh01 - Full 1080p HD - Only YouTube does not show it by default. You must first select the resolution of 1080p from the lower right of the player. Then, unless you enlarge the playback area by going full-screen, you still won't see it because the HD stream will be scaled back down to fit the small player!
@alexislyn93 You can choose full time auto-focus or single time focus in which the camera does not try and focus on other objects but the one you choose.
Hey I'm willing to put up with the lag when doing video but the quality here is great and often better or perhaps as good as premium HD camcoders. Did you use any specific setting when filming this? Because I saw another user post a video of an RC plane filming it with this model camera but it doesn't look as good.
@obtrunco All cameras such as these are full automatic while recording video. This means they will output the quality depending on the ambient conditions. If it is dark, for example, things can look more grainy. The other issue is that you may not see the actually footage becomes some people may compress the video first before sending it Youtube. That makes things faster at the expense of quality, particularly when there is a lot of motion in the video.
hi i ave same camera p100, i captured many movies using HD mode, but when i run the captured movies on on my Laptop , the images are slow and the sound is normal ? can you please help,
i reset the camera to manufactury default settings and still the problem is still exist!
@xxyyjo It has nothing to do with the camera. HD videos are very demanding for computers, particularly smaller ones. You need CPU power and good graphics to see them smoothly. If you want to see such videos on your laptop you should either upgrade it or you could use another computer to compress the video.
@TheMoo1231 Since when can a 10 year old computer using some sort of Pentium chip *smoothly* play HD files? (I'm wondering because dual cores can struggle with it)
A very important "rule" has a funny name Rule of Thirds. You'll find many web sites and articles about it on the web. In boils to dividing your monitor into a grid system that divides it into 9 sections. You can turn it on in the P100. When the grids intersect are the "hot" spots where your subject usually should be placed near. This is nothing new. Artists going back hundreds of centuries learned this trick that makes paintings and now photos more visually interesting.
The higher the number the more responsive the camera, good in low light situations with a down side. The higher the ISO the more likely you are to introduce noise or grainess. So best to keep as low as possible.
Learn when to adjust these few things and you'll be off to taken better photos.
Now a few words about framing your shot. This is the "art" part of photography. Guess what... there actually are rules! You don't have to follow them but it pays when you do most of the time.
that change white balance. If you should change it depends what you are shooting and WHERE. The idea is to remove all color casts so white is true white. This can have a dramatic impact on the overall hue of the picture. The auto white balance for this camera is excellent and does a good job setting it correctly about 90% of the time. When it don't just pick the mode, like daylight, incandescent or fluorescent light, etc..
ISO refers to how quicly the camera acts to light.
by adjusting the F/stop setting. When you use either Shutter or Aperture mode the camera sets the other for for you. These are the two most popular modes for consumer cameras outside of Auto or manual if you want to control everything yourself. Generally it is good to steer away from full manual mode until you know what you're doing otherwise you'll end up with too many spoiled shots.
Next thing I would recommend is understand white balance. This camera comes with many preset modes
At slower shutter speeds you get time exposure. Good for fireworks so you see the whole explosion flower, on making traffic tail lights blur. The A mode stands for Aperture Priority mode. While the Shutter Mode control how long the camera is exposed to light the Apeture mode controls the AMOUNT of light entering the camera. The apertureopens and closes with F/stops. Low F/stops let in more light, high F/stops let in less. In this mode you can correct under/over exposure
How about a crash course... while the following is specific to the Nikon P100 much can be applied to any similar camera. The S mode stands for Shutter priority. This controls how long the camera's shutter is open exposing the camera's electronics to light. Shutter speeds are shown as a fraction of a second. The higher the number, the better you can "freeze" action and avoid blury photos. Something like 1/800 to 1/1000 is good for freezing sports, birds, planes in flight, etc..
Hi...im really trying to bu a cam...but dont know which one to buy...i need one basycally for video recording...so im between this one and the canon powershot sx20is 10mp.....can you advice me please...thank you..cheers mate-..!!
Hi! Well, these are first photo (still) cameras and then video. By that I mean you get very very basic video features even though the quality is pretty good. If you need something for video, I would recommend a video camera instead. There is a long delay with the P100 when recording starts which I found totally annoying. You can read the full review on neocamera for all the details.
When you use it, does it have a timer of how long you can film for? Like it counts down the seconds you still have left to film? Or can you film for as long as you want?
To get full HD playback of course you need a HD tv/computer monitor. If you don't have that don't worry. With the right video editing software you can make great slideshows and videos from the HD source files and render out as DVD's and they still look really sharp. What I'm curretnly doing. Well I better stop. Got questions, ask.
@willieofroanoke you should do a review. i bought the camera about 6 months ago and (im a beginner in fotographing) i still dont know how to use the different modes nd stuff. that would be really REALLY nice! :D
If you have a HD HDMI big screen tv, you'll get WOW factor one-plug playback. It also supports composite video out, which means another way to hook up or tv or plug in a monitor while shooting. Downloading files to your computer is simple with included software. If you're into video editing (I am) you might have to hunt for software that accepts the newer file format. I used Sony's Vegas line and that works fine with no issues.
Most will be a bit overwhelmed AT FIRST with all the possible settings and menu choices. A plus it has a simple help system build into the camera that shows on the very bright LCD monitor. Electronic viewfinder too. To get the most out of this camera witll take some serious manual reading and practice using. Had it a week, played with it every day and still learning new things each day. Doesn't come with a case, or the supported SD memory card. Charging take 3.5 hours.
The full 200 page manual is available in PDF format online, just search for Nikon P100 manual. There are a few minor cons. While the images are sharp, some purists would correctly point out not as sharp as some others. This is due to all they packed into this camera, did I mention full HD 1920x1080 video? So that's expected. You can't add a extra lens or filters, no threads, but again you don't need to 26 optical zoom, way more with electronic zoom at the 680mm lens.
Like Sports mode that shoots a series of photo rapid fire with you just pushing the button once. Great to capture action without blur. Fast? Up to 1/8000 second shutter speed which is blistering fast for a camera in ANY price range. Plus it has a great lens as you'd expect from Nikon, utlra wide, plus 680mm telephoto. Yes that too is available while shooting video. You like close-ups? How about .4 inches close. I just scratched the surface of all they packed into this camera.
@TomRHedges Its a GREAT camera. I've had mine about a week. This fits in the "point and shoot" cagegory which means at the basic level all you have to do is remove the lens cap, set to "auto" point and shoot, and you'll get good pictures but there's so much more. Yes, its a good beginner camera and as a bonus it shoot full HD video and even high speed (plays back as slow motion).
That's just the beginning. It has many modes for more advance use.
