  • what amplifier are you using??

  • @stevedaikovai You mean what amp in the HD500?? It's the Gibtone 185 see 1:57 of the video.

  • These two pixels are wah:DD

  • Glen - What video do you go into detail about the delay in the amp block? Just got a HD 500 and would love to put this into my patches.

  • @BigTone82 I think that's in the POD HD Bean demo I did.

  • Thanks so much Glenn. By far the best POD HD500 vids out there. Keep 'em coming brother!

  • HEY MAN PRETTY GOOD VIDEO REALLY HELPFUL...HOPE U CAN HELP ME...I´M USING THE HD 500 AS MIDI CONTROLLER FOR THE ROLAND GR55(CHANGING PATCHES)...I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE´S SOME SETTING WHICH ALLOWS ME TO GET SPECIFIC PATCHES AT THE GR55 AND NOT ONLY CONSECUTIVE PATCHES FOR EXAMPLE DIFFERENT LISTS IN THE POD...LET ME EXPLAIN IT BETTER..SUPPOSE I´M ON LIST 1 ON THE POD AND PATCH A1 ON THE GR55, AS I GO THROUGH THE PATCHES ON POD, PATCHES ON GR55 CHANGE RIGHT?? IF MY LAST PATCH ON POD WAS

  • @DracoEdmar I don't think it's possible.

  • Hey Glenn!

Lately I've been really interested in the HD500. It sounds really good and I'm pretty excited about it. I wanted to ask your oppinion on these questions.

Is the HD500 better for metal than the Boss GT-10. I own one right now and I just can't get a really good metal tone out of it. Second, are you running your HD500 through an amp or monitors?

Keep rockin' Glenn, you are really good!

    Happy 2012!

  • Just had one of these ordered for me and seeing all this info on the POD HD500 is getting me really excited!

  • hello I bought a pod 500 2 days ago ... That is the problem if I use the wah, I alter the tone ...

Becomes too distorted ... how do I fix it? apologize if you have explained I do not understand English well

  • @PioTiziano go to 4:03 of the video

  • @extremevideopro

sorry I have not solved the problem ... I try to explain better ... I use a slash's tone, and for example when I use the neck pickup, I have the classic sound of slash, okay? when I active the wah, the sound changes!

  • @PioTiziano I don't think there is any way around that. That's just how the wah sounds when it is activated.

  • @extremevideopro

understood. Thank you for availability. I'll try to find a way to activate the pedal in a more 'fast as possible, without changing the tone.

  • Hey glen, Been researching this pedal for a few weeks now and decided to buy one today. I'm just wondering when your next videos are going to be uploaded with tips and tricks. I'm particularly interested in ambient sounds and spacial effects. I'm play mostly metal but I have the metal tone down.

  • @AlofD The best tip I can give you is make sure both inputs are not set to guitar. It cause unwanted clipping. Do this in the system settings. Set one to guitar and one to mic.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks for the tip I will do that. is there any chance of a wee video about reverbs and delays specifically? (by the way I apologise for the use of wee. I'm scottish haha)

  • Hi Glenn,

Excellent video and Great playing! Thank you for posting! Was wondering if you could share the song in the background that starts around the 1:23 mark and the patch you used to create it!

  • Hi glenn, I want to connect the pod hd500 to my mesa boogie triple rectifier and get a brutal sound, using the of 4 cables method will obtain a sound like yours? or what would be appropriate?? or i need to connect to my mac?? I ask, because in the shop did not sound like your perfect sound and here (in mexico city shops) no one can give you a good answer. thanks and I love fusion III wow great job

  • @megavegetarocks Yes I would definitely run it in 4 cable method. You would want to use the amps distortion since it is so good.

  • awesome video hey whats the name of the intro song??

  • @ROCKERSLASH1 Thank you. It doesn't have a name. That's just me noodling around.

  • @extremevideopro wow that's kool the blues sound awesome!!!!

  • I bought one today!! Glad you're showing this one!!

  • Thanks!

  • i love this vid, especially about the wah, i hate how it always completely changed my tone but that should fix it! do you have any tips about some soundgates and the best way to set one up with the HD?

  • hey can you do a video of how to get a good metallica tone with the hd 500

  • Great video - thank! When are you hoping to do the other tips videos? I really enjoyed this one - cheers!

  • Glenn, I followed exactly your instructions but when I assigned the amp to EXP 2, nothing happens. THe EXP 1 light is still lit. No problems with the wah. Any comments?

  • @hsosa1967 Hmm, not sure but try it again. Or try reverse the EXP1 & 2.

  • @hsosa1967 ...I had the same problem..

I THINK it has to do with "sync activating" the pedal by pushing the enter button . Watch and see the pedal in the monitor go light and dark. before saving / testing the patch. I'm sure Glenn will shed some light on this.

  • @1953MMike Well the only way that I could make work is by switching the EXP toe switch from EXP 1 for the wah and EXP 2 for the volume. In other words, I follow the instructions and I assign the amp output to EXP 1 and the wah to EXP 2 but when I do so the EXP 1 doesn't turn red (or green for EXP 2). I have to press the EXP toe switch to make that happen. I don't if it is supposed to be this way.

  • @hsosa1967 Hey, I've been banging my head trying to figure out why I was having the same problem, and it turns out that I was not giving enough pressure on the toe ind of the expression peddle... It takes a fair amount of weight to trip the switch... Hope this helps!

    Glenn, thanks for this post!

  • @Paulskirocks Oh yeah, i forgot about that. If you have this unit on carpet sometimes it's hard to activate that toe switch isn't it. Glad it's working like it should.

  • Hi GLENN :D, can I use this HD500 as an amp head? As in plug straight into a cab? I know it sounds crazy but since it's so HD n all, can I plug it straight into a cab??

  • @SPeedYsingapore Hey Bruce, no you will need some sort of power amp between the cab and the HD500. A clean stereo or mono power amp would work.

  • Damned droid typos sorry again

  • Sorry damadatuntman for the spelling error. It think the pod will run the way you want it to though. You can individually shut the cab and mic sims off on the a and b amps. I run the preamp versions and shut off the cabs I find this sounds the best anyway.

  • Damanstuntman you can run it the way you want with cabs+mic through the pa. And none to your amp. But you'll have to run stereo out and run equal amp settings on the two sims and pan them to each channel one with no cab and one with the cab. But your tone won't be as full sounding.

  • Just wondering if you can run two of the same effect right after one another? I want to run 2 tube screamers one right after another in front of a clean fender model. Also if you've tried this does it behave like the real thing would?

  • Nice demo Glenn. I have a question for you: Could I run this live by a: connecting to FX return of my amp on stage for monitoring without cab & mic simulation and b: at the same time run straight to PA with cab & mic simulation enabled? That's the way I'd like to use this live but wasn't able to find an answer online. Many thanks

  • @damadstuntman To my knowledge NO you can't do this with the HD500. BUT you can do it with the HD400. Why Line6 chose to omit this feature from their flagship POD baffles me.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks for the quick reply Glenn...I'll go and check out the 400 then.

  • I like the amp pans all set at 0 to me that sounds more full a lot of these settings I believe will depend on what amp you use. I set my preamp volume at about 30 to 40 to match the clean sound of my actual guitar amp. Just to mention it I'm running mono so that may make the difference. Great video and playing. These are really great pedals. First time I bought a guitar based product with no regrets.

  • So, you will recommend me the X3-Live will fit more for me?? Great sound very versatile, nothing to regret of not getting the HD500 or GT-10?? hehehehehe

  • Hi Glenn, I usually play different types of music, going from Heavy metal to Jazz. I have a cover band and I play in church every Sunday. I am looking for the most versatile pedal board possible. I have a Parker and I use the piezo sound, I don't use amps at all, only PA's and earmonitors. Should I go for a HD500 or X3-live? or should I consider a GT10?? I need an expert advice. THX

  • @omarsosa44 Good question, well the X3-Live has great settings for acoustic and heavy metal.

  • Hey Glenn! Any chance that you'll be putting out more "HD500 Tips & Tricks" videos? This one was great and I've been looking forward to more. I'm sure you have a wealth of information stashed away. :D

  • hey does the hd500 have whammy effects?? cheers!

  • @thomasgurung Yes it does

  • which one sounds like real amp?? X3 live or HD500 ??

  • @inallib The HD 500 sounds close to a real amp.

  • how are the amp models compared to the pod x3 live?

  • @Cl0udyDayz Well I gotta be honest right? The amp models in the HD sound scary good and react just like real amplifiers and there is a ton of effects to add to make them sound any way you want!! BUT if you play Thrash, Death Metal or even Heavy Metal my personal opinion is that the X3-Live is still better for that type of music. Now that is not to say that Line6 will not release future amp models that have the extreme gain needed to play that stuff. They probably will.

  • @extremevideopro Hi Glenn!!! Thanks so much for spending the time to respond!!! Do you hear any quality differences? as in.... clarity? or.... legitimacy / legitness??? haha.... which one do you prefer?

  • @Cl0udyDayz yes the new HD units have much more clarity and fullness to the sound.

  • Hi Glenn! with the pod x3 live treble seems to be a popular problem... does the pod HD500 have too much treble? what are the differences sound wise between the pod x3 live and the pod hd500?

  • hi i now it is old question for jou put i as it eniwey :) vitsh you like most? line 6 hd 500 or boss gt 10 :) i have the boss gt 10 is it not so good?

  • Great stuff Glenn! Awesome video as usual!

  • The volume trick is great! I was finding it disappointing I needed to use valuable memory on the pedal for a volume pedal. This frees up space for dual-amp tones!

  • Glenn, I bought my HD 500 and I really couldn't be happier. Thanks for the tips!!

  • Glenn...God Bless ya. Helpful indeed.

  • These tips are crazy helpful Glenn, Thanks!

  • @kleydj13 You're welcome Kley

  • if you bought another expression pedal could you control the amp volume with one and the amp drive with the other?

  • @cryingmolly yes you could use the on-board pedal for the volume as I show here and then use the external expression pedal to control the amp gain.

  • holy crap this is a heckalot easier than using it in your chain

  • @JoshFazzz Yes it is Josh. Thanks for watching.

  • Hi Glenn, great demos on you tube, very tasty playing.

I have a chance to grab Line 6 X3 live and Boss GT10 ($120 more for GT10) but I'm undecided. I used to have XT Live but I sold it and I have Digitech RP1000 now. After watching your demos I'm tempted to get either of those two. Please help me choose the better one...and what would be your choice after using them both? Cheers

  • @deekayman68 I'd go for the X3-Live because of all of the other effects you get like for voice and bass guitar.

  • Great tips as usual. I've got a question, which combo amp would you recommend to use with an effects processor like this one or the X3 live or even the Boss GT-10? I am looking for an amp that could sound really good with all the effects, meaning that I may not need an amp that has a lot of effects built in since I am using the processor for that purpose. I'd like a 100-150 watt amp, a few recommendations would be really appreciated, even if they are expensive.

    Thanks

  • @Aristowi The best amp for the HD500 would most probably the new Line6 DT50. They have new 1x12 and 2x12 combo's that integrate really well with the HD units.

  • very insightful, I'm taking your advice back to my XTLive too.

  • please glenn upload more videos of the hd 500...the sound of this pod is AMAZING...but im still learning how to use it and you videos help me a lot...please post more videos!!!!!

    U ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic.

  • Great stuff Glenn. I've had my HD500 for a few months now and I have to admit, it's one of the few toys I've gotten that I just can't leave in the corner. I can still play with it for hours and not get bored. I'm really glad you are creating tips and tricks videos for the HD and appreciate your time spent doing them right. They are a great help.

    Cheers

  • @Stratomacaster I'm glad you find this useful. I have a few coming.

  • @extremevideopro Great stuff Mr. Glenn, keep it comin'. Question, when you use the 60% on the mixer and say it sounds fullest, is that for a recording situation? I use mine mono live through a powered monitor with A & B at 0% pan. I've got R-1/4 out to the monitor and L-xlr to PA. I'll just have to see if the 60% trick applies to live sound. Thanks a lot!

  • Wow Glenn thanks a ton. This works a lot better than having to use your effects chain!

  • Awesome stuff Glenn! I still wish I could get that wah pedal to be my volume pedal with my POD x3 Live. But as you told me before not possible with the X3. I will say though your patches are really good. I am still using two of your creed patches the clean tone an the heavy gain ones you made. I have them slightly modified to sound better with my amp. Thanks for the patches though. Really has helped me with hours of tweaking etc.

  • @x900lbGorillax you're welcome. I'm glad they worked out for you.

  • Glenn. Are these new patches of yours available for download? Thanks

  • @CrazyDiamond1968 No not yet. I'm working on a new patch set that I will make available soon.

  • what amp you use ?

  • Glenn. Thanks for your patches and your help since the release of the HD500...you are the MASTER when it comes to the HD series.

  • @CrazyDiamond1968 LOL, oh I don't know about that but thanks for your support,

  • Hi Glenn, I don't own the POD HD, but it's always a pleasure to watch your videos.

I find them really interesting to follow even if i don't have the gear that you try in some videos. :)

    Ciao

    Manu

  • @Manu9780 Thank you Manu

  • Thanks Glenn! Great tip! Keep them coming!

  • good tip Glen!

  • Perfect thank you!!! every advice on this awesome pod hd 500 is much appreciated!

  • I wish you owned the Boss Br1600 or Br800.

    Your videos are the best!

  • What would Do u think is the better multi effects pedal? Pod hd500 or gt-10

  • @blodhgarm96 The HD500 has less amp models than the GT-10, but definitely way better tone with it's HD amp modeling. So it's up to what you go for, tone or diversity.

  • Had my HD500 for a week before I took it back. DSP limits (with Dual Tones) were enough to drive me CRAZY! I may go back in a year once the bugs are worked out, but for now, I'll stick with my X3. Plus, the overall tones weren't hitting me that hard.

  • @zedchuva same here, trade it in for a Egnater tweaker...fantastic little amp!

  • @zedchuva haha yea i get what you mean, i get that too especially setting sounds for live performances. but the effects are way better quality than most x3 effects. a work-around would be to connect an m9 or m13 to the stereo effects loop to the pod hd500. that would double the processing power to your rig! =D

  • @zedchuva Yeah I hear ya. I don't even try the dual tone thing because of the DSP limitations but I have figured out how to simulate a dual tone. ;-)

  • @zedchuva Reaching the DSP limit is not a "bug". Check out Glenn's Dual Tone patches, they're the best of the best...did you try Glenn's Dual tone DrZ/Treadplate patches before returning your HD500??? I don't think so.

  • Perfect! Great tricks!

  • it has way better quality amp models and the stomp box models are great too. worth the trade.

  • Glenn, honest opinion: is the POD HD 500 worth trading in my XT, considering only tone quality, since I use a small range of effects and different amps? I might have the oportunity to get one soon...

  • @diogomor Hey Diogo, Oh yes that would be a good upgrade. I still have my XT with all model packs and the new HD sound is far more superior.
