Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
Roy Wood played in a version of the Idle Race. Actually they were called Mike Sheridan and the Nightriders. Roy left them to join the Move. Mike Sheridan left his band, Jeff joined and then they changed their name after Jeff's granny called them an "idyll race"(meaning lazy, stupid or something to that effect). That's probably why they did Hey Grandma!
I often wonder if Roy Wood performed on the studio version of this song, as in an interview for Old Grey Whistle Test, he claimed he played in the Idle Race? Mystery this.
I personally like the Idle Race very much. Imposters of Life´s Magazine brought the brilliant talent of songwriting by Jeff Lynne. Was it really his first composition ever released ??
Great video here . . . very good for my Jeff Lynne video playlist. New on my YT channel right now. I hope to add many more videos soon - solo and bands. Move on!
Nice to hear these live- versions. Jeff Lynne had a personal voice from the very beginning. And Idle Race hadn´t a studio version of Hey Grandma to my knowledge.
Very distinctive ELO roots, and Jeffs voice is obvious, I can here hints of The Who in there but "Lemon Tree" always reminds me of "Pictures Of Lilly". Great stuff.
The audio sounds slowed down a little bit

@bondbrookebond Roy Wood played in the band then left to form the Move, with Jeff Lynne taking his place.

It sounds a little slowed down, Brian Matthew's voice sounds a little pitch-shifted lower, and so do the tunes... maybe just a half-step
