It's incredibly apparent that 3 people HAVE NO SOULS OR GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC! I'm 18, was BORN the year before this show and the year that Souvlaki was released, and i am IN LOVE with them. 3 lady gaga/rebecca black/kesha/shitty pop music fans are trying to hate on some of the greatest music of all time.
i used to feel the same way, but i first listened to the song Lose yourself in me and then i found another really great song which sucked me in which is called When you sleep :)
@JuiCeBoX19 Listen to Sometimes... then everything grows on you. I havent been able to go a week without listening to Loveless in its entirety for about a year :D
WhaleRider86 There are plenty of shoegazing bands out at the moment. (don't you have the internet or something?). Go check out the following (maybe not all shoegazing.. but certainly elements... everyones interpretation is different).
Radio Dept, Wild Nothing, The Legends, Guitar (look up their lp "sunkissed"), The Crocodiles, Tamaryn. That's just off the top of my head... there are tons more.
oscillate No this video isn't available officially, but you can find it online. A friend of mine filmed this... last time I saw him I told him it was on youtube and he was pretty surprised at that. (he made a few copies for some friends and sold a few back in 94)
fuckin amazing. really a pity that theres no shoegazing movement nowadays. I really like mbv, ride, jesus and mary chain, spaceman 3 but slowdive are the best.
I was restoring this older townhouse in Hawaii, on the edge of some preservation land on Oahu when I was introduced to this album. I was laying tile floors and getting to be a bit creative while listening to them. One of the best times of my life and certainly a soundtrack (to my life) I will never forget. Their music took me to another planet while I was working. In my opinion, Souvlaki Space Station is a VERY underrated album.
@mossesphom i saw them opening for Ride at RPM, opening for James at Ontario Place (the night before this) and this Lee's Palace show. Fucking amazing!
Yeah, almost saw them at CBGB's in NYC, and they cancelled for some reason or another, what the fuck. Never came back as far as I know, which is strange for a band of their caliber not to play somewhere in NYC. Same thing happened when I was psyched to see Spiritualized at the Mercury in NYC, canceled day of show. Bumola. But yeah, Ride, saw them in Seattle at Rckcndy and fantastic, would love to see them again. I like Mojave 3 quite a bit, so maybe a chance to see them, but Slowdive-ultimate
This song is almost to amazing for my ears. I am in aw. Have you noticed that some bands don't sound good live? I think they sound awesome.. They don't sound like they do on their albums but it is different in a very good way. More spaced out.. Like Machine gun at the same show. Sounds brilliant. I wish they were still a band.
I like to feel sexy....knowing someone is watching me ..wanting me...turns me on!BADLY! I like to flirt and pose..and sometimes i like to get WILD! how? ..he he..come in video and youll see:-)) maybe u can teach me something..or maybe i will ! come visit me at _ MeetYourFling (.COM) _ my user-id there is mollie-dycu chat soon on cam :-) oiwgt
Thank you, thank you, thank you...one of my favourite songs, they were wonderful live and it was that feeling of someone very gently just lifting the top of your head off for you all warm fuzzy and woosey. Gorgeous.
The drummer probably wore headphones so he was not distracted by the noise - these guys were very very very loud as were MBV, RIDE, JAMC and Curve - all top bands in their own right and who cares who influenced who when it sounds this good.
Slowdive/slouvaki is generally much more distant and dark sounding than MBV, who in contrast are warm and intimate. I don't really prefer one over the other, just depends on my mood I guess. Both are awesome bands.
Yeah, the album this is off of (souvlaki) is rivaled in greatness only by Loveless by MBV. Additionally, the track sequencing is right on, with a 7 minute or so song (Souvlaki Space Station) coming right before this track. And they were damn good live too, too bad the night i saw them Neil had a cold
diane dearest,...some would decry the pigeonholing Monet in so small a category as Impressionism...Shoegaze was unfortunate fanboy taggery the British media ran with in describing how faithfully melancholy the Creation bands tended to write songs.Superlative bands like RIDE or Slowdive embraced it,sublimating the pejorative to a family crest.
Best gig of the 90's was Cranes and Slowdive in London. This song and 'Machine Gun' stood out, both unforgettable. These guys should be insulted with the branding of 'shoegazers'. You call Monet a housepainter would you?
Well CEIVE4EVER, I think you'll find that if you read their interviews from the early '90s, Slowdive always admitted to being influenced by My Bloody Valentine. Neil Halstead also said he hadn't even heard the Cocteau Twins until journalists started to compare Slowdive to them.
My fav song by SLOWDIVE, absolutely love it....first time i heard it sent shivers through my body....when a song can do that to me...then I know I'd found something special.
you people are fucking great, thank you for having such good taste. Why isn't there such good music like this anymore?

They remind me more of JMC though.

No, they haven´t a MBV influence, their biggest influence were cocteaeu twins, brian eno and syd barret, but never My Bloody Valentine.

One of the most beautiful songs on the planet.
It can give you a warm and fuzzy feeling or a melancholic mood. Fascinating. The guitars are great.
Sorry, the cover from The Gathering is no comparison.
It sounds like US Christian band has song it.

Hah - that 'The Gathering' cover DOES sound like low rent Christian rock. Good call! That singer sounds a little stiff and teutonic.
