I agree with you. the arcade version suffered the same fate. some versions (mostly in the US) used a different theme as well, that was inspiration for the alfred j quack theme.
@nickantibarney I guess it was some licensing issue or they just wanted to be original with the American release or something like that. I would have liked Popcorn to be in it.
@sygo7g Add Sega Europe to the sum. Remember that Sega Europe did release Alien Soldier while Sega of America didn't. In this case, neither of them released this game.
The Game gear version is the best in my opinion. The Arcade version was just too hard for me. A strange thing about the Game Gear version is that for some reason it plays different music depending on the emulator I use.
I have the Mega Drive game, Pepenga Pengo, and it's an excellent effort. It's like the result of combining Pengo basics with Bomberman settings. The game is actually intended to be a sequel of the original, both in plot and gameplay terms. I still don't get why it wasn't released outside Japan (and there's NO Japanese to translate in the game).

Wasted many hours of my youth on this great game. Loved the soft marshmallow quality of the critters when they got squashed by the ice blocks.

So sad they got rid of the Popcorn music in the Megadrive version

@ioport Yep, Popcorn was a nice touch. I actually discovered it playing an old Commodore 64 title.

@DarkEvil87 Yeah I used to play both Pengo and Chilly Willy on the C64. Chilly Willy had the Dallas tune on the title screen :)

As a huge Pengo fan, I love seeing all these new scenes with Pengo. Especially the last one. Thank you for sharing. :)
