  • if your horsepower was raised 10 by an air filter then i would take it to see a mechanic right away because you were previously using a cement block as a filter in your other intake

  • To be honest, no one does this for performance gains as much as they do it for the sound :)

the stock airbox already has good flow. just it's muffled. it's the intake manifold that limits things

  • An airfilter upgrade does change the note of the engine. I have put an induction kit on my E36 328is and it now screams at high revs. I have a video on here of mine of mine after at 4 mins they take out the airfilter you will notice the difference in sound. If you want to know what yours sounds like take out your air filter and go for a VERY SHORT drive this will give you an indication as to what an induction kit on your car sounds like!

  • Does anyone know if and air filter changes the engine note whatsoever? I have an RSX I was considering. Id like something that makes a lower pitch noise instead of that japp sowing machine redline crap. Im keeping the exhaust stock for now but would love to improve the engine compartment sound.

  • i dont see why not, if anything it would sound better because its a 3.0 liter instead of a 2.5 liter.

  • it wouldnt sound like this on a e36 m3 would it?

  • NEWSFLASH: That is a "hot air intake," not a cold air intake. See that big GAP between the fender? That is where all the hot engine bay air is being sucked in by the filter. You need to get yourself a real heat shield. See Signature Motoring dot com.

  • does anyone now if some performance cams from a 1993 325is fit a 1997 328is?? thanx guys!

  • 1. Dinan cold air intake

    2. Dinan chip

    3. Magnaflow #14815

    THE TRIFECTA OF POWER

    One compliments the other....

    The only drawback?

Now I'm dying for an aluminum flywheel!

i've only got 45K on the car, so a new clutch and flywheel is not going to happen for a while.

  • buy a ebay cold air intake. It's freaking the same thing. What it does is it absorbs air .... if its a cold air, you gain a bit more power. Don't buy K&N intakes, for 200$ to gain 5HP , no thanks .... it's not 10HP btw, its proven its 3-5 HP. 200$ would be better off getting a magnaflow.

  • @AyashiFX55 Dude, the Signature Motoring performance cold air intake is the best option. Instead of a flimsy piece of plastic that leaves a huge gap for hot air intake by the fender and destroys half your possible gain, the Signature Motoring heat shield is a complete seal and made of steel. These things are gorgeous in design and appearance. Funnny thing is that the Signature Motoring kit is cheaper than most Chinese made plastic stuff out there. See signaturemotoring .

  • i have a 323is, and i am thinking of replacing the stock intake with a Cold Air intake but i have several questions..

    1) What are the prices for a cold air intake for an 1998 e36 323is ?

    2) Does the Intake give the engine a "stronger" sound or that "purr"? because the 2.5L engine on my 323is is restricted and therefore doesnt sound very exciting..

    thx alot

  • i just got an open air filter on my e36 323i, and the sound is great :) it def.. sounds stronger (",) but im going to replace it with a cold intake due to the temp.. change the "airintakeexhaustthingy (dont know what its called in english".. and u have a 325 192hp... i think thats the only difference, that u have a 320 airintake on a 325 engine :P = 323i

  • @annesh1 the model number isn't derived through intake. the 323i has the same motor as a 325i but after the new emmission laws required OBDII standards, the engine made less power. The lesser m52 was in the 323, one with a bit more power was in 325, and a 2.8L was introduced in the 328 that made the same power as the 92-95 OBDI M50.

  • @ticoman90 anywhere from 35 to 200 dollars depending on quality. I built one myself for about 40 bucks plus a 70 dollar filter. the sound of your exhaust will deepen slightly, but you'll hear a hiss from the intake. When you open it up, you'll hear a loud roaring sound of the hair being sucked through the filter's material. if you want a pur, you need a less restrictive muffler, but be careful. Too much resonation will result in a more vague sound common to small displacement 'ricers'

  • i have a 95 bmw 325i and i want to put a cold air intake on in to make it faster. dose it work? and is their an other way to make it faster to accelorate faster,

    PLUS THAT SOUNDS AWSOOOOMMEEEE MAN

  • well i also cut off my catalytic converter and put magnaflows on it and thats increased my horsepower

  • @pacman2029 ya by like 2.5 AT THAT. not worth it. it can open up air flow a little bit, but completely does away with the volume engineered into the airbox, there is a reason its huge although without it, cam swaps are way easier.

  • i got the same air intake on my e46 and it makes my car 3 miles slower but it actually feels a lot faster because of the great sportscar sound ;-)

  • @schoarama87 is it heat shielded?

  • @ghostmachin3 yes it is but it doesnt fit very well ! i took it out, since a fiat punto chased me on a hot summer day and i could NOT get rid of it :D

  • stop screaming at me!! haha nice.

  • yeah its raised the horsepower almost 10 i'd say its not a huge difference but you can definitely feel it.

  • Really nice sound! Does the performance improved a little can you feel it?

  • @EnTiN316i performance will only increase with colder air, for every 10degree drop in temperature it is said there is a 1-1.5% increase in hp
