The United Kingdom certainly cares about Northern Ireland. Why would a country put the huge resources and efforts into trying to keep Northern Ireland part of the UK if it did not care about it? The UK has gone out of its way to restore peace to Northern Ireland, accepting power sharing with former terrorists and fully accepting the fact the people of Northern Ireland will decide their future.
If the majority want to leave the UK, their wish will be respected but at present most dont want it
