@mwilson0717 if you desire to be "over protected" you can find a safe haven for yourself in a maximum security prison - the rest of us would prefer that this entire country didn't metamorphosis into one massive open-air prison, as you seem to desire.
Hope you guys never need the police to help you in any way. Remember that the police are humans that have families that they want to go home to each night. They never now what they are walking into. BETTER TO BE OVER PROTECTED THEN UNDER PROTECTED.
Ever wonder what would happen if the Owner of the building showed up at trial and said "Oh, they weren't tresspassing. They had my permission-did YOU officers have a warrant? Because you didn't have my permission so...where's the arrest warrants for you officers for trespassing?"
@SuperChefjackson Ok much better, but still this is a tired and boring argument at this point. The fact is most involved with Occupy actually do have jobs. At Occupy Raleigh we trade out people often because of this. I myself am employed and educated yet I still occupy.
Well lets see if you occupy private property then you will get arrested. What irresponsible parent had their child in this building?. Great way to bring up your kids!! Idiots!! I would probably had pistol wiped the idiot just to prove a point. The only shame here is the lazy asses that just need to get a job!!!!
@PosersDilemma LOL the get a job argument is tired, boring and old at this point. I can't speak for Chapel Hill, but most of us involved with Occupy Raleigh are employed (including myself). There is a reason people come and go. In fact I believe the vast majority of occupy supporters are *gasp* working. I would like to see you call our veterans who come out "lazy asses who need a job".
My favorite part about your argument is that I can almost bet that you will complain because there are no jobs but when you see people without a job you say they should get a job. I agree the people shouldn't have been in that building, but the cops didn't need to go down there with assault weapons either.
@lancelovesgolf101 The anything goes atmosphere is a misconception. Each Occupy has a general assembly (GA) which reaches consensus to make decisions for the group. The people who took this building, I am told, were not with the OCH GA. They were sympathizers from another group.
My friends live behind that building. I drive through that alley on the right to get to their house. I knew something had been goin on BC I constantly saw squatters in the parking lot to the left of the building. These ppl r nuts if they think anyone can stay in any random building and not being taken out by force.
Who are you to say what is overkill? Do you know what the people had in the building with them? No? Neither did the police. Believe it or not you can't trespass on other people's property whether you like the way they use it our not.
@NocturnalApostle Last I checked we live in a democracy, which means we respect and uphold property rights. You want communism, quit your bitching and head to Cuba or China. You'll LOVE it
@iaintpdiddy96 - We're talking about vacant properties by people states away who let the properties become a ruin and cesspool of crime. If you would rather boarded up properties instead of "offices" of people fighting for your right, there's something wrong with you, and you should go elsewhere. I'm FOR the People, unlike some of so-called patriots.
@Judlap That you call fighting for justice and equality a "crime," then use a hateful slur for the disabled to describe those standing up for what this nation's SUPPOSED to represent shows how low those being brainwashed to be tools of the far right will sink. This WAS a cesspool of crime, but because the victims were poor and minorities, you don't give a damn.
@iaintpdiddy96 Really, all Occupy protestors are idiot stoners? They should join the army? Because all of these people were released, meaning that none of them were on drugs... And 2 of them were vets...
@JCHumphrey1990 No. Chapel Hill protestors are idiot stoners. Did you listen to the morons coughing and sipping their slurpies in the video? You can hear the stupidity in their voices. "Like...like....like...full gear, like...like I know right? "
I think the significant information conveyed by this video has nothing to do with the 'affiliation' of the arrestees, but everything to do with the objecives, tactics and demeanor of the police. It is sad to see organizational posturing being an issue at all. The police here, the agents of our govt ('of the ppl, 4 the ppl, and by the ppl', so we are told), most certainly represent a truly disturbing and ominous force -- i wonder what darkness will settle in the coming months and years.
@jeffkingham Police are treading that fine line between "intimidation" and "Waco"... and if they're willing to do this with a small group. Imagine how they plan to address the larger protest.
@skyetrekker And so the police knew that they were not crack heads with guns and with nervous trigger fingers.
I mean, if a cop gets shot down for just serving a warrant, how do you think a cop is suppose to act with a group of anarchist that has NO respect for authority.
No. I was at the GA at the encampment at the Post Office where we had all but a handful of the regulars present. At the close of the GA, we got the report of the police moving in. We even discussed how to speak about the loose association with the anarchy group. They are a distinct group separate from Occupy Chapel Hill. A few people in the GA felt that anything 'occupied' by either group should be called Occupy Chapel Hill, however, this was not the consensus of the majority.
This group was the left-overs of the anarchist book fair that marched here the day before. A few individuals go to both the Occupy Chapel Hill group AND the anarchist group. Please correct the headline to reflect this.
Hey who's driving the bus? The police or Chapel Hill transit?
