35 years ago i was therei was only 12 saw them 5 times most amazing band ever! freddie i will lovey our voice till i die no one ever will touch me like you did!
Don't compare Michael Jackson to Freddie because Michael wasn't brilliant singer, and he was famous because of his dance. Freddie is absolutly fenomenal singer, keyboard player, and front-man. If Jackson won't dance, he won't be famous, if Freddie won't be fantastic front-man, he would still be brilliant singer and keyboard player.
@9danielos5 Whoa, wait a minute.. Michael Jackson was a great singer aswell, he just wasn't as good of a singer as Freddie was. Ha, no one was, is or ever will be.
@9danielos5 if you really think MJ wasn't a great singer and was only famous for dancing, you have got to be kidding yourself. A case could definitely be made that MJ was the most talented performer of the 20th century. Michael couldn't sing like Freddie and Freddie can't sing like Michael. Doesn't subtract from either one, because they both were the best at what only THEY were able to do. Check out MJ's "Whose Loving You" cover if you really need some evidence of MJ's singing ability.
When was Night at the Opera? You can see, that Brian is just getting his way into this. Freddie is spot on - it was his song after all. They would improve this song over the course of time. It's a beauty.
Fascinating to see this early live version when they're still tentatively feeling their way through it - you can tell from Brian's introduction "well, we're gonna have crack at this, see if you like it". Not long after they had a crowd of 300,000 singing it back at them. I know you shouldn't compare in music, but BEST BAND EVER. Four good friends who could mow down a stadium whenever they felt like it.
@Ikeisbo Immature?????? I just stated a FACT. The fact is that Freddie's attraction to other men directly caused his demise. Don't be such a douchebag. Yes, he had a wonderful voice. wow, where did music like this go seriously? It is not playing on the radio or on american idol. Its like this music is crafted like a ferrari whereas music from gaga, anti-bellum and buckcherry are the equivalent of the being served items from the 99 cent menu at a del taco or burger king. Where the hell are the freddie mercurys' and brian mays' of the world? They dissappeared I guess.
@oralboytoy Its just not right to compare Freddie to others like that, he can hit notes high if he wants and it's hard to do it in concert, if you truly have listened to queen you'll be able to see that he has a wonderful voice
Axl has NO RANGE?!!! You're a dumbass! watch?v=D3Dva-fWXf8&feature=related You think you're in a position to argue when you know nothing about vocalists besides Mercury. The one time he attempted a truly challenging song with REAL high notes (not falsetto), he failed miserably: watch?v=YBFE-Jm3zbE Don't argue about vocalists when you don't really know rock. You're just a fan of one band.
@santillica You just don't get it. These notes are FALSETTO. They do not count as range and anyone can hit them. Research the difference. Freddie Mercury has no real range either in head voice or chest voice. That entire video just supplements my point, and I've already seen it by the way.
@oralboytoy Are you basing Freddie's voice on this performance only? or have you listened to things like March of the black Queen, Lilly of the valley, Nevermore and so much more?
@exc123 That's impressive, yes, but how many live performances of those astonishing works can you cite? Maybe they weren't performed live because the vocals were too tough for Freddie. After all, hitting notes in a studio isn't that difficult when you can spend as much time conditioning and re-doing each part. In fact, I've never really heard Freddie hit high notes in concerts. Axl can: watch?v=vGYOU-nxjQI [seek 3:20] & watch?v=g_enNmzWn6Y [whole video]. Show live material to contest that.
@oralboytoy Absolutely I agree Freddie reserved his voice when singing live because he had polyps and would strain his voice if he hit the highs night after night. But yes he did hit them in the studio. i do not agree with you that he had to condition anything or it was easier, it's just that he didn't have to do it again and again and he could let lose in the studio, which is why I think he's great, but if you are basing your opinion on live performances, he would not hit the highs I agree.
Freddie Mercury has over 3 octaves in full voice. He's gone down to a C2 in an interview, he's sung F2, and his highest full voice note is an F5. His falsetto range went up to F6. As for Freddie singing live, he was conservative with his voice (he had nodules since 1975), but there is proof of him replicating his studio vocals live, and he's sung notes such as B4, C5-D5 live!
@Gregsynthbootlegs i couldn't agree more. Plus even if he didn't hit all the C5s he still sung beautiful. It's a far stretch to say he didn't hit all his highs live to he is a terrible singer. Great post and response.
Plus range doesn't mean anything for being a good singer: Look at Frank Sinatra--he's doesn't have a big range, but he has an awesome voice. Then you get crap like Nicola Sedda (who all he does is whistle into the 8th octave).
@Gregsynthbootlegs Frank Sinatra, great voice? He looked good and had a wonderfull marketing team, I find his voice rather mediocre. I know the songs are very pleasant to hear, but there is nothing awesome about his voice.
@Gregsynthbootlegs not techical?, listened to the older versions of this song? maybe live in montreal..or all the songs with montserrat. he became almost an opera singer in his last living days
Oh, I know Freddie's great as a technical singer--I was just saying that Frank Sinatra had a great voice (though he wasn't the most technical singer).
He's not a great singer! There are hundreds of rock singers with more range (falsetto or otherwise) pitch control and note maintainence. Ian Gillan for example, or Michael Matijevic or Rob Halford or Axl Rose. Freddie's nothing compared to them. He's only got falsetto and fails to reach any real high notes.
@sbrave I have every queen album and have heard every song in full. I'm a big fan, so I know what he's capable of. He's a great front man, but in the rock world, his singing is still unimpressive. I forgot David Lee Roth too.
@oralboytoy David Lee Roth vs Freddie Mercury? You should be beaten! He was never a Halford shrieking type singer, and I love Halford and similar, but Freddie had real range, and talent like a motherf'r! As far as the Rock world? What would would you call Queen, R&B? You don't know...lol All those screwballs fro the 80's don't even come close to Freddie....the man is a legend, Axl is a poser loser with no range at all! Please dude!
warning: theres a desease, spreading in YT called..FMOD(Freddie Mercury Obsession Deficiency)..its contagious...Im a carrier for 35 yrs now and proud of it

Funny how early on this live version of LOML did not go over so well but later it was one of the favorites in concert. It's always been one of my favs whether it was the studio version with the piano OR the acoustic. Pure Freddie all the way!

@gotoganesh2002 I WAS 21 years old in the 80s... still unfortunately didn't get to see Queen live. Best song ever, most incredible voice, no match to it.
I'm a big fan of Queen (my all time favourite) but I hav to agree: Beatles did break many of the rules, and rolling stone would be the second that had more importance (and I dont like them very much, this is how objective I'm trying to be ;-) ... and in this objective top 3, queen are n3 ... but to me personally n1, by far

I was there. This was the first time I saw them live. I didn't think they could pull off the songs live without a huge back up crew. Man, did I eat those words. I saw them 4 more times. Awesome every time. This one was beautiful in person and 39 acoustic and a couple of others been a long time. One of the best live acts ever. There are several acts whose concerts are better than records but they are all from my time, no faking.
my life. have reach its deepest hole. It have no meaning, no reason. How is this possible, a song that reflects. everything that i want to tell my love. Thank you Freddie.
I agree with you. When I see those top lists with Madonna, Britney, and I do not see that album...The rolling stones magazine makes lists, but fakes, only. They put what some managers ask them to put, i.e., who pays more!

tHIS ALBUM WAS INSPIRED BY RUBBER SOUL, REVOLVER, AND ABBEY ROADS. DONT GET ME WRONG FREDDIE IS MY FAVORITE SINGER BUT THERE ARE BETTER ALBUMS OUT THERE ESPECIALLY FROM THE BEATLES.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
have you watched the documentary of the album A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, WELL QUEEN THEMSELVES SAY THEY WERE INSPIRED BY THOSE BEATLES ALBUMS. SO DONT ASK ME WHY WOULD I WRITE THAT ASK QUEEN WHY WOULD THEY SAY THAT
@SkaaroVideos Excuse me, Freddy was an ARTIST he made ART; Michael Jackson was a Pop Singer, he sold discs. Please don't make that kind of comparisons...
@Pirogotcha Yeah???????a pop singer tell me a michael's song that was pop his genre was SOUL,RYTHM N BLUES e.t.c...
Beatles was a pop group u mean that they were only sold discs?Dont compare old pop with the crappy new pop that justin bieber;gaga e.t.c destroying music
@bizarrebob I REALLY DO KNOW JUST TWO OTHERS WHO ARE EQUAL TO FREDDIE: ELTON JOHN, JOHN LENNON. NO BOB DYLON, NO MICHAEAL JACKSON, NO MADONNA, NO ABBA...
For those who do not have "Night at the opera" this is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. The original stuio is nothing like the stadium sing along it would become.
This is not a bad version live but the studio version with the great piano and harp is mind blowing.
Freddie Mercury is soooo amazing!!!!!!! im only 22 but i wish i was alive and went to see Queen when Freddie was alive :( Brian May is my idol he is an amazing guitarist and saw him 2 years ago at Wembley. Miss you Freddie
My fav live version of this wonderful song: so deep, so felt, so intense. It makes me wonder if Freddie is addressing the words to his beloved audience.
Oh God, Freddie, how I miss you!!! What a beautiful voice!!! Incredible! Unfortunately Brian spoiled it a bit. But Freddie will always be Love Of many Lives! Right, brothers and sisters? :)

I agree with you. When I see those top lists with Madonna, Britney, and I do not see that album...The rolling stones magazine makes lists, but fakes, only. They put what some managers ask them to put, i.e., who pays more!

have you watched the documentary of the album A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, WELL QUEEN THEMSELVES SAY THEY WERE INSPIRED BY THOSE BEATLES ALBUMS. SO DONT ASK ME WHY WOULD I WRITE THAT ASK QUEEN WHY WOULD THEY SAY THAT
kalen486 2 years ago
pikelesdenagar 2 years ago 3
Lennmacca 2 years ago
pikelesdenagar 2 years ago
Perivei 1 year ago

For those who do not have "Night at the opera" this is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. The original stuio is nothing like the stadium sing along it would become.
This is not a bad version live but the studio version with the great piano and harp is mind blowing.
