  • I HATE THIS MAP.I was playing doom with my uncle (he is a gamer too) and we're arrived this map,at night, and we scared like hell and screamed like a cyberdemon.i can't sleep after completed this map.

  • dude i remember when i was like 3 back in '96 my dad used to always put me on his lap in his office and would let me play doom on his 486 DOS computer. And i remember that demo at the beginning and the original SoundBlaster music and all the dark halls. This game brings back the best memories

  • For some reason the song just jumped out at me at 3:00

  • This level was the least fun to play on the SNES version of DOOM, first time player back when I was 12. I hated it because of the darkness, that music (which sounds as if a monster is tiptoeing behind you) & I felt like the was a Cacodemon around almost every corner. The Cacodemons are my least favorite to run into in the dark.

  • @MasterDrew117 I am just playing trough DooM 1 right now, but "ENTERING DEIMOS LAB" made he hitting "ESC", "UP", "ENTER" and "Y". I need a clear mind to play that map. Another thing I hate on the map are these small "labyrinth" with the demon faces on the walls. For some reason, I think there's a Cacodemon just somewhere above me, unable to see because of the fixed viewpoint and suddenly attacking and trapping you within those high walls and surrounded by Nukage................

  • @NoMac90 The only good part about those pesky Cacodemons is if you have the Chainsaw, Chaingun or Plasma Rifle, they can be pwned. Cacodemons are hardly in any shape to return fire (or bite if getting Chainsawed) when a rapid fire/damage weapon is used. Still, Deimos Lab sucks, I found Halls of The Damned to be less intimidating, despite that fanfare-like music featured by HOTD.

  • ugh i hate this level. pissed me off so many times. I remember being like 9, and saying "I can't see a fucking thing!" and then my mother would proceed in slapping me and unplugging the computer....

  • The level of the starting demo in Doom1 Dos version... Thanks man ! The original music brings back memories... good old times !

  • well, this is probably the only music in the whole game that reminds you 'you are playing the horror game'.

I wonder how would it fit if someone used it in Silent Hill. Never played SH, but I know it's stuff.

  • I just noticed how most players we get the brightness up to be able to see. The defual brithness was so dark, but at the same time it made te game more scary.

  • @ltcgyt Default Gamma is way to dark. I remember sitting there and bumped my head on the table because I knew there is a way to get the brightness up. It was F12 if I remember correctly. IMO, gamma 2-3 are okay, but 4 is not - as you said correctly - not scary anymore.

  • I did what you did at 1:03, but the game crashes when I go to "Read This!" because it can't find the "Help2" file. Any way to fix this?

  • @Aquarius199 I guess the WAD or the EXE are corrupted in some way. I don't know a "Help2" lump. Which version of the engine and WAD do you use?

  • @NoMac90 I used DOSBox to run Doom. The version of Doom is 1.9 and I replaced the Shareware WAD with The Ultimate Doom WAD. It works better on ZDoom (what I mostly use), because it pretty much never crashes with ZDoom. The Help2 lump is the graphic that appears in the Shareware version of Doom. (the graphic appears after the text srceen that shows after you beat E1M8). If you still don't understand my problem, I'll make a video so you can see the problem.

  • I completely agree with the comment made about the map.when i was about 8-9 i used to play over and over some maps just for the fun like the episode's 1 secret level or command center. But i always avoided that one cause of the music....Later on i i discovered that this level its actually what doom was about=)

  • @Alton4 But it's eerie as hell *shooder*

  • First of all, I want to thank you for posting the OPL versions of these songs - I haven't been able to hear them this way since having to move on to Collector's Doom on a newer computer. I love the way you've got the videos set up - the pictures and comments are really entertaining.

Definitely one of my favorite original Doom songs - because the mood it gives off is just so thick and immersive. I feared this level. And I, too, hated those moving faces when I was younger. xD

  • @ThatMan54 No, I have to thank YOU (and the other guys watching my videos). I'm surprised about the comments and screenshots. An year ago, when I made the first video (Map 09 / DooM II), I expected bad reviews because I just use screenshots instead of video clips combined with subtitle comments written with bad to horrible grammar. Never thought YouTubers are that tolerant.

Thank you very much for the time watching the videos and posting this comment! Very appreciated :)

  • Sounds crazy but I loved this map and it's one of my favorites. The design of the map is old school and interesting. The music is great and fills perfectly to the map. This was also my first full version -map I have ever seen (demo).

  • I just try to get trough that level as fast as I can, but the music slows you down and make you feel watched. If you don't know where the monsters are, it makes you turning the view all the time... Thanks for your thoughts about this song :)

  • I think of this song whenever I am pissed because I can't get the automap xD No seriously, how am I supposed to lower these pillars. I managed it once, but on the GBA. I hate that level.

  • I personally do not have a problem with E2M4, in fact it's actually my favorite level in episode 2. I don't know why, maybe because it's the fact that I do not go for everything.

Though if you want me to talk bad about a level that has this music, I REALLY HATE E4M6. It's just so damn annoying! I kept failing at it because it was just too damn hard! GAH!

  • I think of this song whenever I walk alone in a dark, creepy forest at night.
