Her ability to coordinate what she is currently hearing, with what she hears in her mind as she sings is amazing. 1 can't sing what he/she hasn't heard. Therefore all those runs & changes she's doing, she's heard somewhere b4 (my guess is a piano) & it's locked in her memory. This is the easy part by the way! But to be able to make your voice perform what u have in your mind in such a way that it flows with the music that's being played in the present is A GIFT FROM GOD HIMSELF.

I'm going to try to explain the greatness that is Kim Burrell. To able to do the runs, riffs, & changes that she does in this video, u must have more than just vocal ability (which she obviously has) but u must also have an incredibly sharp & sensitive ear, a strong understanding of music (particularly chord progressions), & last but definitely not least, a sound memory. Put the anointing of Jesus Christ with all that & u have Kim Burrell.

Wow! There not that many people that can basically predict a chord change. She does it effortlessly. Its a movement (chord change) the organist/keyboard player does starting at 3:16 and ends at 3:25. At the end of the change she already knows where to go. And it sounds like a surprise to the crowd. By the way, nice decision on the sound used to accompany her in this sound. It kinda sounds like a pipe organ. It has a rich sound and yet soft enough to give that classical/jazzy tone.
