why would you step back from someone comming to kill/attack you. It shows a passive fear to your uke. Aikido is about moving forward not backwards. Only the detriot lions move backwards and it didn't work for them either. By cutting out the distance from shite to uke it adds more control of the shite.
I thought aikido was moving where needed to control uke and has nothing to do with fear. Moving directly against the attack is counter productive and turns it into a wrestling match.
@Crifstar he never does that. I practice Yoshinkan Aikido in Japan right now and I think I know which technique you are referring to. It may look like he goes straight but it is a slight step to the side which upon impact with uke breaks ukes balance immediately, (if going straight, just as you say is extremely counter productive, dangerous and ineffective) if timing and posture is correct. Extremely difficult to master even if it do look simple i can assure you its not.
Nice demonstration, and the ukes know how to fall.
But the usual Aikido "attack", ridiculous as always. They practise for thousand ways to throw somebody who walks towards them with an outstretched arm.. "throw me, please", hahaha.
Also I noticed the instructors seem all a foot taller than the tiny ukes... the Steve Seagal factor? It is easy to toss lightweight pint-sizes around.
@Derukugi2 Its not a fight its jiyuwaza. Its much harder than it looks and it more timing and awareness that you practice. And its not easier to train with someone smaller than your self, it more difficult. Because its harder to feel if you do it correctly to someone weaker. Check out the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido, Gozo Shioda, shorter than 160cm, thin, but he has no problem throwing down for example JFKs body guard. (famous clip when JFK visit Gozo Shiodas dojo.)
Wow some very interesting techniques there, and it is good to see some very effective looking techniques on here, and okay its actually bugging me but where is the music from ?? is it by any chance the end credits/dance routine from ZatoIchi?
This is awesome. The moves and throws are authentic. This is great stuff here. I have watched some Aikido videos where the opponents look as though they are throwing themselves or just tumbling for the sake of making their sensei look good.
Also hilarious when the little girl loses her wig at around 4:05.
