  • This CD is in my car deck and I can't seem to bring myself to take it out . The Sax solo in this song brings me to a place of many years ago . A very contentful feeling !

  • jamie oconnell is ?

  • thanks - I was there - it was a totally wonderful moment - have never forgotten - held my breath through the whole song!

  • was this in 1985?

  • @cantliz1 1985 was the year !

  • El Segundo Def Cons won't let pot it on Facebook. Huh, 2 dozen stupid companies.

  • English Beat song.

  • Love how Pete incorporated the Sax version ! Pete turns 66 today ! I grew up with his solo stuff and I really like it !

  • I think I just soiled myself . . . .

  • this version beter tha the EB's version. LOL

  • Black air and seven seas and rotten through but what can you do ? sometimes I don't know how to get on with all of you lot , sometimes I don't try , I just na na na na na na na na na na !!!! The Sax solo pierces my heart !

  • Holy shit, God's own genius legend singing the best song from the ska band ever. What a freaking compliment- Peter Dennis Townshend covering your song. Sounds wonderful, but honestly, English Beat played and sang it the best it could have ever been.

Imagine Pete Townshend calling you and asking about something you've done...

  • Fantastic!

  • one of the most original songs in rock history, like many a one by mista p

  • there's some clarity here that make this version compelling and desirable..you know

  • cry..........so sweet. :)

  • so much talent that it makes me dizzy.

  • super sweet - thanks for posting

  • I really like this version...like the Beat, but Pete's take on it is different...and it's good

  • I like the English Beat version better.

  • I'm a huge PT fan and I've seen Pete play this live years ago on the "Psychoderelict" solo tour and it was sweet as hell.

I've also seen Dave Wakeling/English Beat perform it live a number of times and if I have to pick one, I'll go with the Dave/Beat version. The the "la la la runaway" part at the end is brilliance. Dave still performs it beautifully.

  • Check out Dave Wakeling's radio interview about Pete calling him up about how to do this song. It's on related videos when clicking on to Pete Townshend-Save it for Later ( In the Attic ) video site. Great trivia insight is given by Dave.

  • the best version ever. great double bass play by chucho merchan.

  • I meant to thumbs-up this. Drunk. Sorry! :)

  • Why the internet is so fucking great: I never heard this song until I downloaded it looking for Pete rarities in the early 2000s.

This song should be played on the radio hourly it's so fucking incredible, instead mainstream radio plays utter fucking shit 24 hours a day.

    PT is God, peace out.

  • @Lavalole YOUR WRONG!!!!!

  • Is this better than the original? Na. But, this a hell of a good cover :-).

  • I put this version on the iPod the other day and I just keep hitting repeat once it starts. "Linzmegham" one year ago said the sax solo is a gift and I agree...

  • What album is this on?

  • nevermind about my last comment,I just answered my own question by actually paying attention to what the writing says.

    :-)

  • Well, I certainly like the original better (livelier or something, I'm not sure - maybe my love for The Beat is making me biased), but all in all, this is a lovely cover.

  • Listen to that opening guitar lick...and this heartfelt interpretation. The genius of Mr T....

  • I have played this CD to death over the past 20 years. Probably played this as much as any i own over that time. Fabulous.

  • saw the who play this live at Giants stadium in the late 80's it was awesome. Knew it as an English beat tune never knew the who or Pete covered it until that concert.

  • I'd love to hear it with Daltrey singing.

  • fantastic

  • Great remake originally by the English Beat.......I love the 80's!!

  • agreed - great album- not well known

  • One of the best, least known Towshends albums. Brillant

  • Absolutely. I picked the CASSETTE up as a cut out back shortly after its release, it was cheap. I've enquired on line recently; It's hard to find and expensive when you do. There are widely available boots of different shows from that same era - by comparison, the night of this recording was very special.

  • It's unreal how Pete takes a pretty good song and makes it really good.

  • A pretty good song? I read an interview where Pete said this was one of his favorite songs!!!

  • @sneezlo This was already a really great song.

  • one of the marvels of mister marvel

  • Ty for posting this. I'm goosebumpy. Love Pete so much.

Check out Pete live doing Baba O'Reilly featuring Gabby Lester on fiddle/violin if you want to see something really amazing.

  • great piece of work revisited by a great artist.

  • great cover by a fucking great artist.

  • this is THE version of this song, sorry english beat, the sax solo is a gift, love the vocal screw up by pete

  • What an incredible way to describe the sax solo: simply a gift.

  • Fucking love the song and like someone else who posted hadn't heard it for years. I had it on record and in the prelude to the song he asks (I'm guessing the audience) do they know what the song is about? Well, I'm asking, what the fuck is it about?

  • A great live CD by pete.....I play it over and over when Im blue

  • Perfect song for Pete to cover.

  • I have this on vinyl and haven't listened to it in years.

  • WoW!! thank you for posting this! wonderful

  • Holy shit!! That was awesome!!

I have to pick up this album, too.

  • Fantastic version - love it
