I dont understand why americans insist on kicking the tires of a car. What does that do? I can see no reason to do this at all. I guess its the same thing as americans sitting at traffic lights, chatting on a cell phone, while picking their nose and eating it. Its an american style thing I believe.
Additionally Toyota and other foreign manufacturers share a wide range of problems compared to American cars including but not limited to 1. Sky high parts prices 2. Higher insurance rates 3. Are not as safe in an accident and 4. as the Toyota recall fiasco shows are not any more reliable and do not last as long as American cars. That would be in addition to not benefiting the American economy. The people who are out of a job can thank their foreign car buying habits as part of the problem.
@mustang633NY S is for second gear, meaning the transmission only uses the first 2 gear ratios. For low speeds downhill or uphill. Nothing to do with the event of brake loss. In the event of brakes failing on an automatic, you would just gradually shift down from D to 3 or 2 and then slowly into L (or 1) gear and bring the vehicle to a stop. You might damage the gearbox, but the car would come to a stop.

@modtbod yeah but be ready to pay 2-3 times as much for a high performance eurp car, american cars are great values for the money, often have better styling and power than the Jap cars and are often as reliable. Plus they are much cheaoer to buy and have repaired/maintained so you save money up front, if it does break down then you already ahead of the Jap buyer. Plus Toyptas and honda's are high maintainence cars, you have to change timing belts every 60k miles and all that crap.

My 02 Camry runs a 4 cylinder, and hasn't needed any engine maintenance so far. In fact, it never needed anything other than brake pad and oil changes. As for the V6, I have no idea myself.
General motors and Ford are horrible at least Japenese cars pay attention to build quality and are reliable!
I think that Ford has improved over the years and their range is a lot better than what it used to be, but Iv'e always stuck with Jap cars because the practicalities of a Jap car is far better than American cars!

It has always been good engines in the Toyota, but the appearance was not particularly good in the past. But by 1990, Toyota has been a marked improvement in appearance, and the new Camry is really cool:)

Despite all of your swearing you do not know anything about cars and neither does Toyota apparently judging by the laundry list of problems they have been having lately. Make sure to test drive an Altima before you buy this car. You'll find that the Altima 2.5 SL is about the same price as a base XLE 4-cyl, but it comes with leather heated seats, gets better gas mileage, and its a lot of fun to drive. It's not numb like the Camry is. Push button start is standard, and the ikey means you never have to reach for your keys again. Also, resale value is supposed to be on par with the Camry this generation.
No its no! I've owned one since 97 it has 306,584 miles on it and has only broke down once because the fuel injector went out. Were as my 93 accord's transmission, starter, and fuel injector went out within 50,000 miles! BOO-YAH!

The new 4cyl has 5-speed auto, 158hp...and thats still far from great power. The new accord 4 has 190hp, the altima has 175hp etc The camry 4 is probably the slowest in midsize class. But hey at least it gets a great gas miledge.
My mom purchased the 4 -speed auto and it has lots of power I was surprised. I have a 95 camry and it is still going strong and looks great you get alot for your money when you buy a toyota.
The V6 has 268hp, thats 110 more hp than the 4cyl, yet only gets 2-3 mpg less. It has a smooth 6-speed auto. and it only costs $2600 more than the 4. In not many cars you can gain 110 horses with upgraded trans for $2600. The V6 is definetely a better deal
Don't buy the one with V6 engine, bacuse that engine is noisy, gas thirsty, oil leaky, shitty, lousy and crapy!!!!!

2AZ-FE engine, 4 cylinders, is a better engine, first came out at 2002, so far so good, even has less power than the V6, but it's very reliable and good on gas! One good thing about this engine, sludge build up is less prone on to found.
I am looking forward to getting a Camry SE V6, but are the leather seats available for it? I am just about done with my '94 Maxima, very reliable car. Also...I am stuck between the Lincoln MKZ interior or the look of the Camry with all the rear spoiler package? Any opinions of what to choose between the two?
Get a Sonata SE V6 plus it comes with Stability control and road side assistance, the Camry may be hold its residual value better than the sonata in my save the 3,000 to 6,000 upfront.
I just bought a new '09 Camry and I love it. I got the 4-cylinder because I drove both the 4-box and V6 and I couldn't really tell a daily driving difference. If I was going to race it I'd go w/ the V6 but I like saving money. The dash is mildly boring during the day but I like the glow at night and for a stock sound system it bumps pretty well. I got a black one w/ tinted windows and it looks smoooth. No sun roof but i'll live.
This is possibly the best Camry yet. Exterior design looks awesome(at least by far better than Honda Accord), and I can see the car is still the king. Good job, Toyota!

Problem is we had 3 camrys in the company, with their engine oil channels getting plugged. No maintence issue, was told it was a bad design, then I find out lexus subject to same issue. Would never buy either one.
I'm sorry to say I have one of these boring Toyota camrys. I hate it when I am at a red light and there is 2 or 3 other camrys at the same red light. I've just had $1700 repair service on my Camry 2000 with 72k miles on it. My car was guzzling a quart (1L) of oil per 1500 miles. A sludge check that was supposed to be $90 ended up being rebuild of the head of the engine. Dealer "Charles Mound" in Austin got me big time. I sucked it up but that is the last money that Toyota is ever going to see from me. I'm done with Toyota forever.

The guy who started Toyota was named Toyoda in time, they felt the former name was better. The company is Japanese, and the overall quality of their cars rival Honda's.
Both of them are great. I like the design of the camry, it looks pretty good; but i would take the Honda for me, because is a great car. Altima, from nissan, is another car which is doing very good as well, its sales have increased, and is doing a good competition to the two main mid size cars in the market. What i really like is its standard features, intelligent key,etc.and is really fun to drive. Now, Toyota is not chinese is japanese. Honda and Nissan are japanese as well.
Nissan Altima is much better than camry, even if I like camry, altima really is much better. It has more standard features, better mileage per galon, and more power in its two versions, V4 and V6. In design, they are both very nice looking cars, i thing it's a tie. In handling, the altima is also the winner. I recomend the Altima if u r looking for a new, nice car.
I have been driving a Camry Hybrid for about 10 months now. Its power is very weak most of the time. Occasionally it has some power but when you need it or want it, it's not there. The 6 cylinder I test drove was good on power. I average about 32 miles per gallon; & there is a lot of engine noise & outside noise that comes into the cabin.

The Nissan Maxina is better. The Maxima engine has internal chains for the twin overhead cams, eliminating the need for periodic replacement of the timing belt.
The sound quality of the JBL system is incredible. I hooked my mp3 up and the music surrounds you; it doesn't just sound like it's pumping from the rear and bouncing all over. The speakers seem strategically spaced to produce perfect sound. The only problems with the mp3 hookup is that you have to cram what seems like your entire arm into the compartment below the nav, to plug it in.
I just bought a fully loaded 07 Camry XLE v6...WOW. The steering is so much tighter than my v6 Altima, as well as, it accelerates real quick. The navigation is efficient once you figure out how to use it - there are so many flippin screens and options on the navigation that you easily get lost; still figuring it out.
I hate the front, but the rear is nice. They forgot some convenience features like one-touch windows(only the driverside is one-touch).
There is no spoiler for the XLE, only SE. You can only get 16inch wheels on the XLE; 17 inch and up for the SE...Toyota refuses to attempt to put 17's on because of the incompatibility with the tire pressure sensor with the 17s...some bs. Don't expect to get all of the XLE options with the SE(already checked). The most options you can get on the SE is the nav, bluetooth, and fewer steering wheel controls, but even then, they said to get an SE with Navigation is super rare.

My 02 Camry runs a 4 cylinder, and hasn't needed any engine maintenance so far. In fact, it never needed anything other than brake pad and oil changes. As for the V6, I have no idea myself.

General motors and Ford are horrible at least Japenese cars pay attention to build quality and are reliable!
I think that Ford has improved over the years and their range is a lot better than what it used to be, but Iv'e always stuck with Jap cars because the practicalities of a Jap car is far better than American cars!

It has always been good engines in the Toyota, but the appearance was not particularly good in the past. But by 1990, Toyota has been a marked improvement in appearance, and the new Camry is really cool:)

They (Toyota) decided to beat the other manufacturers to the market place with technology that wasn't fully developed and as a result has had massive recalls to fix problems and still isn't sure if these fixes will even work.

Make sure to test drive an Altima before you buy this car. You'll find that the Altima 2.5 SL is about the same price as a base XLE 4-cyl, but it comes with leather heated seats, gets better gas mileage, and its a lot of fun to drive. It's not numb like the Camry is. Push button start is standard, and the ikey means you never have to reach for your keys again. Also, resale value is supposed to be on par with the Camry this generation.

No its no! I've owned one since 97 it has 306,584 miles on it and has only broke down once because the fuel injector went out. Were as my 93 accord's transmission, starter, and fuel injector went out within 50,000 miles! BOO-YAH!

The new 4cyl has 5-speed auto, 158hp...and thats still far from great power. The new accord 4 has 190hp, the altima has 175hp etc The camry 4 is probably the slowest in midsize class. But hey at least it gets a great gas miledge.

In my opinion, the V6 is a better choice.
The V6 has 268hp, thats 110 more hp than the 4cyl, yet only gets 2-3 mpg less. It has a smooth 6-speed auto. and it only costs $2600 more than the 4. In not many cars you can gain 110 horses with upgraded trans for $2600. The V6 is definetely a better deal

2AZ-FE engine, 4 cylinders, is a better engine, first came out at 2002, so far so good, even has less power than the V6, but it's very reliable and good on gas! One good thing about this engine, sludge build up is less prone on to found.

Get a Sonata SE V6 plus it comes with Stability control and road side assistance, the Camry may be hold its residual value better than the sonata in my save the 3,000 to 6,000 upfront.

I just bought a new '09 Camry and I love it. I got the 4-cylinder because I drove both the 4-box and V6 and I couldn't really tell a daily driving difference. If I was going to race it I'd go w/ the V6 but I like saving money. The dash is mildly boring during the day but I like the glow at night and for a stock sound system it bumps pretty well. I got a black one w/ tinted windows and it looks smoooth. No sun roof but i'll live.

interior isn't attractive though compared to the 97-07 models. i prefer the 2000-2002 model out of them all so far.
i currently have a 1994 model with 172,000kms which hasn't let me down yet. you can't knock a camry if you haven't experienced one.
i've driven a 92 shape, bit small.
the 94 is very nice and plenty of room to the 92.
the 2000 model is a pleasure to drive with a bit more width to the previous model and longer.

Problem is we had 3 camrys in the company, with their engine oil channels getting plugged. No maintence issue, was told it was a bad design, then I find out lexus subject to same issue. Would never buy either one.

Or even worst when I come out of a mall in the parking lot and I have to find my camry in a sea of 20 to 30 other camrys. Yes it is a good car, but man it is BORING!

I've just had $1700 repair service on my Camry 2000 with 72k miles on it. My car was guzzling a quart (1L) of oil per 1500 miles. A sludge check that was supposed to be $90 ended up being rebuild of the head of the engine. Dealer "Charles Mound" in Austin got me big time. I sucked it up but that is the last money that Toyota is ever going to see from me. I'm done with Toyota forever.
I paid for the lesson. I was considering buying new Camry last spring but now all they can get from me is 8--

It is still boring, but the more impotant story is the bevy of recalls and faults of the Camry, which predictably, get overlooked because of "claimed" dominance. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance. It is good to see someone finally noticing the "chinks".

Evidently, it's possible to construct a car that is both reliable AND appealing. However, I'm not thinking of Toyota Camry which I think is a reliable but also an extremely boring car.
Volvo, SAAB and Audi are much more attractive and also more of true 'premium' cars than Toyota.
I'm proud to live in a country, namely Sweden, where the Volvo V70 is the best selling car year after year.

The 2008 Honda Accord is way way way way better then the camry. It looks nicer, It has more power, it has a better name eg, Honda vs Toyota. Whenever i hear the name toyota i think about chinese people and cheap plastic. Overall Honda is Better than Toyota. And to the people out there saying, "V4" it's not. Both of them are great. I like the design of the camry, it looks pretty good; but i would take the Honda for me, because is a great car. Altima, from nissan, is another car which is doing very good as well, its sales have increased, and is doing a good competition to the two main mid size cars in the market. What i really like is its standard features, intelligent key,etc.and is really fun to drive. Now, Toyota is not chinese is japanese. Honda and Nissan are japanese as well.

Nissan Altima is much better than camry, even if I like camry, altima really is much better. It has more standard features, better mileage per galon, and more power in its two versions, V4 and V6. In design, they are both very nice looking cars, i thing it's a tie. In handling, the altima is also the winner. I recomend the Altima if u r looking for a new, nice car.

I have been driving a Camry Hybrid for about 10 months now. Its power is very weak most of the time. Occasionally it has some power but when you need it or want it, it's not there. The 6 cylinder I test drove was good on power. I average about 32 miles per gallon; & there is a lot of engine noise & outside noise that comes into the cabin.

Fusion = quick and FUN! my freind rented a 07'Toyota Camry and it was so bad, thing was like a tin can, horrible handling, horrible acceleration, horrible design and comfortablity makes me wonder if the only reason ppl buy these cars is because their "reliable" and "less expensive" . The sound quality of the JBL system is incredible. I hooked my mp3 up and the music surrounds you; it doesn't just sound like it's pumping from the rear and bouncing all over. The speakers seem strategically spaced to produce perfect sound. The only problems with the mp3 hookup is that you have to cram what seems like your entire arm into the compartment below the nav, to plug it in.

I just bought a fully loaded 07 Camry XLE v6...WOW. The steering is so much tighter than my v6 Altima, as well as, it accelerates real quick. The navigation is efficient once you figure out how to use it - there are so many flippin screens and options on the navigation that you easily get lost; still figuring it out.
I hate the front, but the rear is nice. They forgot some convenience features like one-touch windows(only the driverside is one-touch).

There is no spoiler for the XLE, only SE. You can only get 16inch wheels on the XLE; 17 inch and up for the SE...Toyota refuses to attempt to put 17's on because of the incompatibility with the tire pressure sensor with the 17s...some bs. Don't expect to get all of the XLE options with the SE(already checked). The most options you can get on the SE is the nav, bluetooth, and fewer steering wheel controls, but even then, they said to get an SE with Navigation is super rare.
