I'm not saying you have to completely change genres to be truly progressive, because plenty of bands have adapted over time and still kept true to what they're known for playing. But it's perfectly natural for bands to do complete turns, and people should see this coming by now.

You'd think that after getting pissed at bands so many times for changing, people would learn their lesson and learn to be more proactive rather than reactive. Not openly listening to and appreciating music for what it is just because it's not within close vicinity of what the band/artist is known for playing is pretty ignorant, and it's the biggest way most people miss out on some damn good music. There's so much overlooked material on Metallica's albums (mostly the Loads), it's not even funny.
