The Massey Hall performance in 1971 was not filmed. The audio from the Massey Hall was synchronized with footage from another show from the same tour. When the camera switches to the tape recorder, that is when the footage and the audio do not synchronize.
If deciding whether to get this go for it. I was absolutely blown away. Best live album I have ever heard by lightyears. There are some unexpected twists, and the music is great. Go for the CD and DVD. It is worth the small amount of extra money.
Sure is. I bought it (on vinyl!) And I'm not even that big a Neil Young Fan. Sound quality and set list is truly impeccable. And to hear it on vinyl just sends even more shivers down my spine.
I would probably buy it on vinyl if my record player wasn't complete crap. I do admit that when it works the way that it is supposed to records do sound really good. A Day in the Life on Sgt. Pepper for example was awesome. you may not even know what that is though.
Not know A day in the life? i all but wrote the damn song1 lol1 that's how big a beatles fan I am. Hear that record in Mono and really hear some incredible shit! Magical Mystery Tour too! But you have to fix your record player as it's only available on vinyl. Peace out.
I thought you would probably know what it was, most classic rock fans do, but just wanted to make sure. I also have MMT on vinyl & it is pretty cool. But Im not sure what you mean it is only on vinyl, I have the MMT CD. I guess you mean the mono version. Anyway, my record player just plays the first song at the right speed no matter the length of the track, and then the next song and all of the following are sped up.
I have to get this. Is there interviews and stuff on it too no? And can you get the Sugar Mountain concert from...'69? on dvd? That would be a great one
Howard Stern played an uninterrupted clip of Ohio today from this concert on his show. I'm not the biggest NY fan but i always liked that one and a host of others. But, needless to say, the acoustic version I heard today sent chills down my fucking spine. It just may be one of the 3 most important and moving songs by a major artist EVER! And I've heard 'em all. From Dylan to Lennon,Townsend, Davies et al. I think i'll do myself a favor and pick this DVD and lp up this weekend. Can't wait!
I'm 27 and just recently got into Neil Young's music. I think the Live at Massey Hall 1971 album that finally saw the light of day was my first official intro to him. Now I'm left wondering why I didn't get to him sooner, lol! His songs really pull you in and get you feeling like you're part of them. This is one artist Canada should feel very proud to have birthed for as of today he's a living national treasure.
>;-)
Note: STILL blows my mind that him and Rick James actually jammed together!
Rick James and Neil were actaully in the same BAND together, called the Mynah Birds. But Rick James was supposed to be in the navy at the time and the government caught him.
Massey Hall was my intro to his stuff in 2007 also, 2 years later I have all his 40 something albums and I read his biography "shakey". I'm 29, and you're exatcly right when you say, why didn't I get to him sooner.
I had a pretty good bootleg of one of these solo shows, with most of the Harvest songs before it came out. I suddenly became popular with a lot of girls at school. Thanks again, Neil.
Neil got me laid once .. cowgirl in the sand was the song .. this girl got so into it and I told her I knew him .. usually I have much more devious ways of getting sex so I am embarrassed that such flim flam worked.
"After the Gold Rush" and "Harvest" were brilliant records, made up of songs that Neil could perform with a band but they sounded great with just a guitar and voice.
Where can I buy this dvd???
