@KapteinOpel Probably very similar in which they use the chain hoist. But instead of running up and down ladders manipulating the hoist and pick points, I would use one fork truck to take the load while the second would maneuver the prop.
@JuDoggin Hm.. Might work out. The issue here is that the load changes when the propeller shaft is free and there is a big danger of tipping over. I would rather use one big forklift with a specially formed rack in which the propeller fits and is secured, so the propeller axle remains horizontal when its free due to being properly secured to the forklift.
@JuDoggin I also think there is a possibility they are doing it this way to show how it was done in the old days, when big forklifts and special equipment wasnt around. I have to agree there must be easier ways.
What would be really cool is if the ship was still powered by it's original engine (overhauled a few times since new, of course). Probably an EMD 567 series?
@fxdwings That "kid" from the look of it, was the Professional Engineer with the mechanical engineering degree and probally responsible for the whole crew of machinist mates working on the shaft, I bet 10 to 1. That is the way it usually is with our maintenance crews, and we really don't want them to touch anything but supervise everything.
really, two lift trucks couldn't do this?

@JuDoggin How would you manage that?

Great footage and I like the way you have sped it up with those old fashioned colour themes, works really well.
