@Soriua Sunset riders is cool. Your problem might be that some older ROM versions, do NOT work with the latest MAME version. EmuAsylum (DOT com) ROMs with with the latest MAME versions. I would play Sunset with you sometime. Want to try? Also, do you have Skype?

hey man cool video but i downloaded the rom and it opened up in winrar, i moved the files to the ROMs folder and refreshed but it was a no go. should I just not unzip and put it in the folder?
this is very easy.i don't see how people have problems doing this.i play on kaillera everday.i play at west wonderland.the server is in the U.S Virginia.been there since 2007.if anyone like beat em up like double dragon 1,2 and 3 golden axe 1 and 2 final fight the punisher mercs and the metal slug series then come to west wonderland.look for it in the server list.

Whenever I click on a server to join in the server list, it says "connecting..." but then nothing happens and it never connects. Its not a firewall or network issue on my end, how do I fix this problem? I've tried 3 different pcs but the same thing happens on all of them
Ping is determined by your internet connection speed and the distance you live from the server. If you don't have a high speed internet connection, your ping will be too high to even play at all. If you live far away from the state / country of the server you are logging into, your ping will be very high. I would recommend that you only play in servers close to your area to avoid high ping. You might want to try 2DF if that is the case (I made a tutorial video on that too).

Yes sir! Don't just limit yourself to SFA3. Try out all the ROMs you like. But not all of them are compatible with this version of MAME. But I know for sure Marvel VS Capcom is compatible. I play it online VS other people all the time!

This tutorial is great but I think I missed something. I made the ROMs folder in the MAME folder but for some reason it won't load the ROMs. By the way I extracted my SF3A ROM into a non-compressed folder.

hey man my only problem is that I can't play online, when I hit play network or whatever an error message comes up saying cannot find DLL, btw, my version of mame is different than yours but I have seen people do it with mine. I have the one that says mame plus.
Do you have high speed internet? either Cable DSL or LAN? This is one of the things I forgot to mention... if you don't have Hi-speed internet, online gameplay won't work.
well i could probably play online..its just the server that lags me..like godsweapons server i have 100+ ping on it..other servers i have much less ping
Have u tried playing on 2DF before? 2DF is a an alternative to play MAME and Kaillera. I noticed on your page that you are from Canada. Godweapon's server is in Virginia, US... maybe that's why it is lagging. Typically you have to live close as possible to the server to get smoother and less laggy gameplay. But I do know that on 2DF the gameplay is considerably better regardless where u live. Check out the tutorial I made on 2DF and try playing there. It should be better gameplay for you.
Did you press F5 and check in your available tab on the mame interface? If yes but it doesn't show up, open up mame and go to "Options" at the top, then drop-down to "directories" and then you click "Browse" and go to your ROMS folder so that mame knows that that is where it is supposed to look for your game files. If this doesn't work, try reinstalling mame and your game roms all over again from the beginning. If that still doesn't work, contact me and I'll work with you until it works.
Mortal Kombat should work! Perhaps you might have downloaded a corrupted file... Make sure that you get your Mortal Kombat rom from romnation website. I only recommend rom-world or emucation if you can't find what you're looking for in romnation's site.
That is odd because SFA3 works on all these emulators. Perhaps one of your settings is wrong. Be sure that your client is looking in the right directory path for the SFA3 rom. Do that by going to "Options" on the mame interface -> then you drop down to "Directories" -> then you click "Browse" and make sure it is looking inside your roms folder. Also be sure that you are refreshing your mame interface by pressing the F5 button on your keyboard to refresh your games.
I don't know if u can play w/ a ps3 controller. I think you should be able to because to my knowledge, you can play on MAME with a ps2 controller so I don't think a ps3 controller would be much different... but that's just me. Sorry for the delay to respond, see your inbox for my response
Yes, you can find the kaillera.dll in the anti3d website as well. You can also go to kaillera's official website to get the kaillera.dll, which enables you to play online.
I haven't tried the version of MAME you are referring to. But I would try this one because you DON'T have to go online if you don't want to, you can play single player if you want w/o having to go online. Plus, it is known to be one of the faster and most stable versions of MAME. I do however recommend MAME32++ 0.117 if you have a faster computer simply because it supports more games.
I've played on 2DF as well. But I must say I disagree with you. The only preference I have with 2DF over Kaillera is the fact that there is a ranking system. Other than that I don't like it because my experience is that I actually get more lag than on I do on Kaillera. I don't know why that is the case for me but it is :/
You can play with anyone you want to on MAME. It is not random at all. You can play with players across the country and sometimes around the world. And yes you can invite your friends to play too. All they have to do is install mame, get the sfa3 rom, and be in the same server as you. Up to four players can play at a time too (but since sfa3 is really only a 2 player game, you have to take turns as it is only two at a time).
I don't know if this is off-topic, but if you unlock can you unlock characters for SFA3 on MAME and will they stay unlocked the next time you load up MAME?
Absolutely, but this is the arcade version of SFA3, so the only unlockable secret characters are Juli, Juni, and Balrog to my knowledge. And no, sorry, they do not stay unlocked. You have to enter the secret code each time you start up the game unless you make a save state and you load the game from your saved state.
This rules, you can tell it makes sure you don't make mistakes and is specific. But not everyone wants to download Street Fighter 3 Alfa, I know enough about roms and just got Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Thank you. I tried my best to make it as specific as possible. I originally made this video for my friends on GameTap who wanted to play SFA3 online, so that is why SFA3 is the subject game. But you of course can get other games as well. UMK3 used to be one of my favorites too, unfortunately I suck at it now :/
If you got sfa3 working, you should be able to get Marvel VS Capcom working too. Just download MvsC's rom from Romnation. The process is entirely the same as what you did to get SFA3 working. Put MvsC in your ROM's folder and refresh your MAME. Did you succeed getting SFA3 to work? If not, tell me where you got stuck so I am able to elaborate better.
I installed MAME32k (the one you show here on this tutorial) and I already had some games on my other MAME's roms folder (its MAME 0.118u3) but everytime I try to play em on the MAME32k i got just now it says the game is corrupted and that files are missing.
But my games work perfectly on my other MAME 0.118u3. Help please. I would use MAME32 0.118u3 but that one doesnt have Kaillera. Can you help me by installing Kaillera on MAME 0.118u3 is possible or with MAME32k.
Try redownloading your ROMs again and start anew. If that doesn't work, perhaps your games are not compatible with this version of MAME. Sorry I'm not able to help you better... I recommend you try downloading Mame32 Plus Plus 0.117, which can also be found on the same website as you saw in this tutorial. Maybe that version might work. You install that version of MAME exactly the same way as you saw here. Your games MIGHT be compatible with that version since that version supports more games.
Okay I will try the tips you gave. But I got these roms of the websites most people get them from. Plus I seen other people running the games I'm trying to play on their versions of MAME32k. Example of roms im talking about are (Marvel Vs Cap, Xmen Vs Sf, Etc)
Ok, you should definitely be able to play those games you mentioned, so something is wrong! If redownloading your roms doesn't work, then I suggest that you completely start over and redownload this version of MAME too and reinstall. This version of mame is the one used by most players to play MvsC, XmenvsSF online, so stick with this one. Get your ROMs from the websites I put on this tutorial's description, preferably from romnation. I hope this works for you, let me know if it does.
I will be posting another tutorial soon which will show how to install that version of MAME (Mame32 Plus Plus 0.117)... That one is online compabtible and supports more games than this version of Mame. Hopefully it will work...

Were you at least able to get sfa3 working? If so, the other game roms you have gotten may not be compatible with this version of mame. If you can't even get sfa3 to work, are you sure you followed all the steps in the video correctly? I heard that people who run Vista have problems getting this version of mame to work.

Yes, you can also use that version of MAME if you prefer. The reason why I walk you through this version of MAME in the tutorial is because this is the one that is most used to play SFA3 by most people on the servers. Within the next couple of days I will be uploading another tutorial on how to install MAME ++ 0.117 (where you can play newer CPS3 games). I will be demonstrating how to download and install it so that you can play SF3 3rd Strike online. Stay tuned!
I'm not sure I understand your question... what exactly is it that you want to skip? If you are referring to the mame intro, all you do is press ENTER key on your keyboard, then the game should just start from there.
Oh yeah, to all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the arcade games) fans; you can set up the controller to play as all 4 turtles! Its easy; just assign the "coin" buttons to key pads 1 through 4, and, for the red color spectrum turtles, reverse up and down on the directional pad, while the blue color spectrum turtles leave as they are. Trust me, it works. Try it! And its loads of fun playing as all 4 turtles at once!
yea. You can play as 4 players on a single controller or keyboard. You know I was bored one day and I tried that with The Simpsons once. I was Homer, Marge, Bart, and Maggie all at the same time and I finished the game in like 20 minutes lol.
now, do you leave the game inside the winrar folder, or, do you have to extract all the files while inside the ROMs folder? That is, you save the winrar folder into the ROMs folder and then you hit extract. Is that what you do or can just leave the winrar folder as is?
No, when you install WINRAR you install it alone, completely aside from the installation of MAME. Don't mix-up the installation of WINRAR and the installation of MAME as it is two completely separate installations. The purpose of WINRAR is only to help you extract the zipped MAME file you download from the anti3d site into the folder you created in step 1 since a computer cannot extract zipped files without an unzipping program installed such as WINRAR or WINZIP.
Once you download the zipped file of MAME from anti3d into the folder you created in step 1, right click on it and drop down to where it says "Extract Here". Several items will pop up in the folder once you do that as you seen in 2:35 of the tutorial. Then you create a folder and add it inside and you name it "ROMs". Then you go to the romnation site and download it into the new "ROMs" folder you just created. Do NOT unzip the ROM you download from romnation. Leave it as is.
Then all you do is open up the MAME interface, and press the F5 button on your keyboard. Your MAME will refresh upon doing this. Click the available tab on the left of the interface and you should see the game you downloaded now. Now you are ready to play. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
actually I got it working this morning; turns out under "directories" my roms folder wasn't even in there! Its one of those things that just makes you feel really stupid but its okay I fixed it games are working. Now I have a different problem; apparently the default arcade difficulty is set to get people put in as many coins as possible. Its been a while since I played the game, and I keep getting served up by the CPU. How do I lower the difficulty?
I went to options, and then "directories," and from there I went to "browse" and I made sure "ROMS" was selected, once that happened, I hit F5 like you said and it fixed the problem, to make my earlier statement clearer, sorry.
Okay, aside from the game's difficulty, I have another problem; how the hell do I in the button config set some buttons to "none?" I don't have that many buttons on my USB controller!
First, plug in your controller. Then start up MAME and click on the top where it says "Options". Then you drop down to "Default Options". Once you do that a window will open with different six tabs on it. Go to the "Controllers" tab. Once you click in the "Controllers" tab, checkmark where it says "Use Joystick", then you click OK. Then you start the game, click on the TAB key on your keyboard, and a menu screen will appear in front of your game.
To lower the difficulty, start the game, then press the F2 key on your keyboard. The "TEST MENU" will pop up. With the arrow keys on your KB, go down to "7. CONFIGURATION" and press f on your keyboard. Then you will be in the "CONFIGURATION MENU". Go down to "2. GAME" and press f. Then at the top you will see "1. DIFFICULTY". With your arrow keys, select the difficulty you want, then go to "9. EXIT" and press f when you are done. Then from there you just go to "4. SAVE & EXIT" and you are done!
Absolutely! I only used SFA3 as an example in this tutorial. To download any other game ROMs you would download them exactly the same way as you see in this tutorial. The entire process is exactly the same for any game that you want to download.

This tutorial is great but I think I missed something. I made the ROMs folder in the MAME folder but for some reason it won't load the ROMs. By the way I extracted my SF3A ROM into a non-compressed folder.

Do you have high speed internet? either Cable DSL or LAN? This is one of the things I forgot to mention... if you don't have Hi-speed internet, online gameplay won't work.

Have u tried playing on 2DF before? 2DF is a an alternative to play MAME and Kaillera. I noticed on your page that you are from Canada. Godweapon's server is in Virginia, US... maybe that's why it is lagging. Typically you have to live close as possible to the server to get smoother and less laggy gameplay. But I do know that on 2DF the gameplay is considerably better regardless where u live. Check out the tutorial I made on 2DF and try playing there. It should be better gameplay for you.

Did you press F5 and check in your available tab on the mame interface? If yes but it doesn't show up, open up mame and go to "Options" at the top, then drop-down to "directories" and then you click "Browse" and go to your ROMS folder so that mame knows that that is where it is supposed to look for your game files. If this doesn't work, try reinstalling mame and your game roms all over again from the beginning. If that still doesn't work, contact me and I'll work with you until it works.

Mortal Kombat should work! Perhaps you might have downloaded a corrupted file... Make sure that you get your Mortal Kombat rom from romnation website. I only recommend rom-world or emucation if you can't find what you're looking for in romnation's site.

That is odd because SFA3 works on all these emulators. Perhaps one of your settings is wrong. Be sure that your client is looking in the right directory path for the SFA3 rom. Do that by going to "Options" on the mame interface -> then you drop down to "Directories" -> then you click "Browse" and make sure it is looking inside your roms folder. Also be sure that you are refreshing your mame interface by pressing the F5 button on your keyboard to refresh your games.

I don't know if u can play w/ a ps3 controller. I think you should be able to because to my knowledge, you can play on MAME with a ps2 controller so I don't think a ps3 controller would be much different... but that's just me. Sorry for the delay to respond, see your inbox for my response

Yes, you can find the kaillera.dll in the anti3d website as well. You can also go to kaillera's official website to get the kaillera.dll, which enables you to play online.

I haven't tried the version of MAME you are referring to. But I would try this one because you DON'T have to go online if you don't want to, you can play single player if you want w/o having to go online. Plus, it is known to be one of the faster and most stable versions of MAME. I do however recommend MAME32++ 0.117 if you have a faster computer simply because it supports more games.

I've played on 2DF as well. But I must say I disagree with you. The only preference I have with 2DF over Kaillera is the fact that there is a ranking system. Other than that I don't like it because my experience is that I actually get more lag than on I do on Kaillera. I don't know why that is the case for me but it is :/

You can play with anyone you want to on MAME. It is not random at all. You can play with players across the country and sometimes around the world. And yes you can invite your friends to play too. All they have to do is install mame, get the sfa3 rom, and be in the same server as you. Up to four players can play at a time too (but since sfa3 is really only a 2 player game, you have to take turns as it is only two at a time).

Absolutely, but this is the arcade version of SFA3, so the only unlockable secret characters are Juli, Juni, and Balrog to my knowledge. And no, sorry, they do not stay unlocked. You have to enter the secret code each time you start up the game unless you make a save state and you load the game from your saved state.

This rules, you can tell it makes sure you don't make mistakes and is specific. But not everyone wants to download Street Fighter 3 Alfa, I know enough about roms and just got Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Thank you. I tried my best to make it as specific as possible. I originally made this video for my friends on GameTap who wanted to play SFA3 online, so that is why SFA3 is the subject game. But you of course can get other games as well. UMK3 used to be one of my favorites too, unfortunately I suck at it now :/

If you got sfa3 working, you should be able to get Marvel VS Capcom working too. Just download MvsC's rom from Romnation. The process is entirely the same as what you did to get SFA3 working. Put MvsC in your ROM's folder and refresh your MAME. Did you succeed getting SFA3 to work? If not, tell me where you got stuck so I am able to elaborate better.

I installed MAME32k (the one you show here on this tutorial) and I already had some games on my other MAME's roms folder (its MAME 0.118u3) but everytime I try to play em on the MAME32k i got just now it says the game is corrupted and that files are missing.
But my games work perfectly on my other MAME 0.118u3. Help please. I would use MAME32 0.118u3 but that one doesnt have Kaillera. Can you help me by installing Kaillera on MAME 0.118u3 is possible or with MAME32k.

Try redownloading your ROMs again and start anew. If that doesn't work, perhaps your games are not compatible with this version of MAME. Sorry I'm not able to help you better... I recommend you try downloading Mame32 Plus Plus 0.117, which can also be found on the same website as you saw in this tutorial. Maybe that version might work. You install that version of MAME exactly the same way as you saw here. Your games MIGHT be compatible with that version since that version supports more games.

Okay I will try the tips you gave. But I got these roms of the websites most people get them from. Plus I seen other people running the games I'm trying to play on their versions of MAME32k. Example of roms im talking about are (Marvel Vs Cap, Xmen Vs Sf, Etc)

Ok, you should definitely be able to play those games you mentioned, so something is wrong! If redownloading your roms doesn't work, then I suggest that you completely start over and redownload this version of MAME too and reinstall. This version of mame is the one used by most players to play MvsC, XmenvsSF online, so stick with this one. Get your ROMs from the websites I put on this tutorial's description, preferably from romnation. I hope this works for you, let me know if it does.

I will be posting another tutorial soon which will show how to install that version of MAME (Mame32 Plus Plus 0.117)... That one is online compabtible and supports more games than this version of Mame. Hopefully it will work...

Were you at least able to get sfa3 working? If so, the other game roms you have gotten may not be compatible with this version of mame. If you can't even get sfa3 to work, are you sure you followed all the steps in the video correctly? If there is a certain step that you want me to explain a little further, just ask me and I'll be glad to help. Also, are you running Windows XP or Vista? I heard that people who run Vista have problems getting this version of mame to work.

I went on the site and saw the Modern version of MAME, where you can use CPS3 games. Can you use that emulator as well, or only just the one you suggested?

Yes, you can also use that version of MAME if you prefer. The reason why I walk you through this version of MAME in the tutorial is because this is the one that is most used to play SFA3 by most people on the servers. Within the next couple of days I will be uploading another tutorial on how to install MAME ++ 0.117 (where you can play newer CPS3 games). I will be demonstrating how to download and install it so that you can play SF3 3rd Strike online. Stay tuned!

I'm not sure I understand your question... what exactly is it that you want to skip? If you are referring to the mame intro, all you do is press ENTER key on your keyboard, then the game should just start from there.

Oh yeah, to all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the arcade games) fans; you can set up the controller to play as all 4 turtles! Its easy; just assign the "coin" buttons to key pads 1 through 4, and, for the red color spectrum turtles, reverse up and down on the directional pad, while the blue color spectrum turtles leave as they are. Trust me, it works. Try it! And its loads of fun playing as all 4 turtles at once!

yea. You can play as 4 players on a single controller or keyboard. You know I was bored one day and I tried that with The Simpsons once. I was Homer, Marge, Bart, and Maggie all at the same time and I finished the game in like 20 minutes lol.

now, do you leave the game inside the winrar folder, or, do you have to extract all the files while inside the ROMs folder? That is, you save the winrar folder into the ROMs folder and then you hit extract. Is that what you do or can just leave the winrar folder as is?

No, when you install WINRAR you install it alone, completely aside from the installation of MAME. Don't mix-up the installation of WINRAR and the installation of MAME as it is two completely separate installations. The purpose of WINRAR is only to help you extract the zipped MAME file you download from the anti3d site into the folder you created in step 1 since a computer cannot extract zipped files without an unzipping program installed such as WINRAR or WINZIP.

Once you download the zipped file of MAME from anti3d into the folder you created in step 1, right click on it and drop down to where it says "Extract Here". Several items will pop up in the folder once you do that as you seen in 2:35 of the tutorial. Then you create a folder and add it inside and you name it "ROMs". Then you go to the romnation site and download it into the new "ROMs" folder you just created. Do NOT unzip the ROM you download from romnation. Leave it as is.

Then all you do is open up the MAME interface, and press the F5 button on your keyboard. Your MAME will refresh upon doing this. Click the available tab on the left of the interface and you should see the game you downloaded now. Now you are ready to play. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

actually I got it working this morning; turns out under "directories" my roms folder wasn't even in there! Its one of those things that just makes you feel really stupid but its okay I fixed it games are working. Now I have a different problem; apparently the default arcade difficulty is set to get people put in as many coins as possible. Its been a while since I played the game, and I keep getting served up by the CPU. How do I lower the difficulty?

I went to options, and then "directories," and from there I went to "browse" and I made sure "ROMS" was selected, once that happened, I hit F5 like you said and it fixed the problem, to make my earlier statement clearer, sorry.
Okay, aside from the game's difficulty, I have another problem; how the hell do I in the button config set some buttons to "none?" I don't have that many buttons on my USB controller!

First, plug in your controller. Then start up MAME and click on the top where it says "Options". Then you drop down to "Default Options". Once you do that a window will open with different six tabs on it. Go to the "Controllers" tab. Once you click in the "Controllers" tab, checkmark where it says "Use Joystick", then you click OK. Then you start the game, click on the TAB key on your keyboard, and a menu screen will appear in front of your game.

To lower the difficulty, start the game, then press the F2 key on your keyboard. The "TEST MENU" will pop up. With the arrow keys on your KB, go down to "7. CONFIGURATION" and press f on your keyboard. Then you will be in the "CONFIGURATION MENU". Go down to "2. GAME" and press f. Then at the top you will see "1. DIFFICULTY". With your arrow keys, select the difficulty you want, then go to "9. EXIT" and press f when you are done. Then from there you just go to "4. SAVE & EXIT" and you are done!

Absolutely! I only used SFA3 as an example in this tutorial. To download any other game ROMs you would download them exactly the same way as you see in this tutorial. The entire process is exactly the same for any game that you want to download.
