@Joel6309 - They will stay down on their own. The depth is determined by 5 main factors - total weight of the rigs, lenght of line out, line diameter, amount of drag generated by the rig and the speed of the boat. If you dressout a 4 arm 4oz rig with 9 1oz jigs, pulled on 50lb test, 80-90ft behind the boat, dress with curly tail grubs @ 2.5 to 3 mph, you will get down to 20ft!
I live on Smith Lake, AL and its very clear and deep. I'm using 20ft crankbaits right now but am getting nothing. How do you get your U-rigs to stay down? Do they naturally weigh down or do you have a planer of some sort?
ive caught all of my fish recently with 4" white curly tail on 3/4oz jig - jetty fishing. appreciate the tip on chartruese - will give a try. the u-rig does not appeal to me although i see how it increases odds of catching fish. for me it is like shotgun vs bullet rifle for hunting - when possible bullet is more sporting than shotgun. i'm a single lure type guy even though it might cost me more hookups.
@bloodknot101 - U-RIG are not my favorite way to fish either, but as a guide, I sometimes need to put my clients on fish anyway I can. URIG's are fish catching machines!
Hey Mike, where's a good spot to fish this time of year? It's NOV but the weather is still fairly warm. I was out there today, and I saw jumps in the water but nothing went for my worms or lures. Got any tips? I like this umbrella thing.
@LeonRFpoa - Sounds like you are bass fisherman, as stripers normally don't go for worms or lures. A 1/2 oz jig with a fluke trailer or spoon would be your best bet. Just look for the fish coming up on the south end.
@StriperRod - you got that right - forget Capt. Mike I'm pirate Mike!! Never had the transitions lens do that before, guess I waited too long between new pairs.
It's good...but it's illegal in California
