Yes, Davis did direct "Quackodile Tears" in 1962...as a part of Freleng's unit. His own unit was disbanded in 1949, for the reason previously mentioned, 'thunder'.

Economic conditions forced the studio to eliminate one director from their roster...and since Davis was the most recent addition, his unit was disbanded. He eventually became one of Friz Freleng's animators...
@fromthesidelines Actually, he directed one more cartoon for Warner Brothers, That one was a Daffy Duck cartoon and was made in the early 1960's. Friz Freleng wanted Davis to get one more chance to direct a cartoon, and so gave him that one as thanks for Davis's good service under Fritz.
