  • dont let your daughters drive alone at night in dark areas!

  • keep this animal in jail for the rest of his life in the way he ended

    young Cara's life forever.

  • A great video and a fitting sound track. Just visited the SD Crime Victims Oak Garden this

weekend for the first time. I had just moved to San Diego East County near El Cajon where

Cara and her family lived in late 1986. I have never forgotten her story and often thought of her

over these years. I feel sure Cara and her father Sam are together forever with God. I will visit Cara often and thank Sam Knott for his Oak Garden contribution. Craig Peyer will get his

    on judgement day.

  • I really feel sad for them, but think of the people who lose their lives in hands of American soldiers in Iraq that is also a sadness. ( for war supporters only ).

  • @fw569442 - you cannot really be trying to compare the horrors of war

with the actions of an officer of the law? Maybe you should have thought

about your post before posting such a nonsensical argument. Brainless.

  • The oak garden is a nice, peaceful place (ignoring the freeway traffic noise), and I visit it regularly in memory of my murdered parents and the other victims and survivors of violent loss.

  • Is there video anywhere of the ride-along he was doing with the reporter?

  • povera ragazza. che possa riposare in pace!

  • I love visiting this oak park....I amwiriting a paper about making changes in your community towards my Master's Program and this week's assignment is dedicated to The Knott Family and their efforts on behalf of crime victims. Thanks Joyce, Cheryl, Cynthia and Sam - we miss you. --Kelly

  • I wonder if Craig Peyer's wife ever divorced his sorry ass--She was supporting him and proclaiming his innocence way back when. The woman was obviously in denial.

  • @dinomite161 I hope she divorced this animal long ago, and

further hope he is never paroled. What possible good could he do

on the outside anyway. He is a murderer and will burn in hell.

  • @dinomite161 - Funny thing is his wife Karen filed for divorce in 1984. That was his last wife wasn't it? (not counting his wife in prison!)

  • This is in response to "where is this Garden?"

Traveling west on Scripps Poway Parkway, you'll find a driveway sized road on your right JUST before you get to the north I-15 on-ramp. That little road goes down into the canyon about half a mile. It's also named Cara Way.

  • craig peyer, i remember this when i lived in san diego.long live cara. I hope peyer goes to a place worst than hell.

  • He finally joined her daughter in heaven, RIP

  • This is an absolutely beautiful project. Such a dedicated father is so beautiful.

That he made it for many to ease their pain, and create life in the names of their loved ones says a lot about the man. I wish I could have met him.

As someone who has "been there--" a lifetime process, I so look forward to visiting the garden and creating something for my late sister Nikki.

Thank you Knott family and friends for creating this!

  • It's easy...get off on Mercy Rd from either the North or South I-15...then head east for just a half a block and hang a U-turn...you need to get right over into the left lane as you get onto Mercy Rd. or you will miss the U-turn...then you'll see Cara Way on the North-East corner of Mercy Rd just a few feet west of Wendy's...then drive all the way to the end of Cara Way and you will see the Oak Garden.

  • Where is this garden? I took the Mercy Rd. exit and checked both sides of the fwy on the northwest, northeast and southwest and southeast sides of the intersection of I-15 and that roadway and saw only a nondescript garden thing on the corner near there by a Residence Inn. I wish I knew where to look.

  • i just saw this episode about her on "forensic files". sad story......truly.

    :(

  • I live in Poway, right next to the Knotts memorial bridge. Every time I pass it I think of what this young woman could have been if her life wasn't stolen so callously from her. I'm 20, and an SDSU student graduating soon; anticipating all that life will offer. She deserved to do the same. He should rot.

  • I lived in San Diego in the late eighties and yes I travelled through that area quite often.

After this happened the law was changed to allow people to drive to a public place to avoid this ever happening again.

Cara was alone that night with a monter and I hope the angels were there to take her from that place quickly.

I didn't know her father had passed away she touched many people with her tragic passing.

God Bless and take care of Sam and Kara and may they be together forever now.

  • @happymike44

I saw you left this awhile ago. You mentioned you hadn't known Cara's father had died, interestingly he passed away of a heart attack in the garden he had made for Cara and others. Those who knew him said he wouldn't have wanted to have died anywhere else.

  • @sanshi87 Oh, Craig Peyer will be up for parole again in 2012. To this day he proclaims his innocence yet refuses to provide a DNA sample. When asked why he refuses, he remained silent. (That's called "consciousness of guilt," folks.)

  • This crime has had a lot of repercussion in Calilfornia, at least in the area of San Diego?

  • I was married the night Cara was murdered. Every year on my anniversary, I say a prayer of remembrance for her and her family. What a terrible loss. May God bless the Knott family and give them comfort and peace.

  • I worked with Cara's brother John at MCCS at the time of her death - was shocked to see the story on Tru TV - nearly lept out of bed. At that time I15 in North County was so remote - and those off-ramps to nowhere were down right scary. The sad thing is that I've been on that exit so many times over the past 20 yrs and NEVER REALIZED that tragedy took place there. Imagine being all alone in the dark with I15 50 yds above, cars wizzing by, the ground 75 ft below at the mercy of a psychopath...

  • that by the way, I don't know of what this man was thinking, to make similar crime, to put an end to the life of a girl, to ruin his life (and maybe a brilliant future in the police) and the life of Knott family. At least I have the comfort that in United States Cara has had justice

  • I am from Spain, and in a program, " Forensic files", one of the cases that I have seen was the Cara Knott's case. It is truly terrible of this girl. But mainly I was surprised it was the sadness of her father during the judgement to Craig Peyer

  • Cara's story was on TruTv tonight. I had just turned 8 when this happened (I was born and raised in SD). Seems like she was so loved - when police confirmed with Cara's father that her body was found, his response was "I wish you had known her, she was such an angel." He passed away in 2004 of a heart attack tending to her memorial at the spot she was killed. The freeway area where she died was renamed in her honor.

  • Sorry, he passed away in 2000, not 2004.

  • I was one of Cara's roommates when she attended UCSB before transferring to San Diego. We used to go running together on the beach. She was a wonderful person. Full of life and love. Her memory lives with me always and I think of her often. Her death changed my life when I was a young college student. It was as if something ended that day for me. Innocence was gone and the real world reared its ugly head.

I love you Cara and hope to see you again someday. Blessed Be.

  • Based on trial transcripts, the defendant apparently used his

position to try and get women to go on dates, but he

never attacked any of the other women he stopped. What

happened is the victim threatened to report the

defendant for misconduct, and the defendant responded aggressively. Knowing he had gone too far, the defendant killed her.

A few years ago the defendant refused to have his DNA tested on some blood at the scene, essentially confirming his guilt. I doubt he'll

    be paroled ever.

  • I remember this well; I lived in San Diego at the time. The cop who did it was a spokesperson for crimewatch and made several commercials warning people not to be victims of crime! The entire time he was driving around at night pulling over young women and trying to leur them into secluded places to attack them. Poor Cara was the one he killed.
