  • I have a 1986 f250 also but its a gas. Was sitting for 5yrs I went out put a new battery in it and it started right up!

  • @Whopperspigsales Good old Fords... you got to love them!

  • I routinely park my 1983 F250 diesel for six months during the slippery season - it tends to skid with nothing in the bed. I leave a battery trickle charger connected, and check the battery water levels every few weeks. Check the tire pressure, oil & coolant levels before I drive it out again. Never had trouble starting it. I have heard some parts of the country have trouble with algae growing in the fuel, or water collecting, that hasn't bothered me.

  • @artfd Sounds like you take real good care of your truck. Thanks for watching!

  • Hope he didn't use that starting fluid on that poor engine.. starting fluid is hell on diesels!

  • @braaup We've been using it for 12 years and counting. It's only "hell on diesels" if the glow plugs work. Ours don't. Thanks for the comment!

  • t-19 4 speed ?

  • @KLX1990 Auto

  • i love the way the 6.9L sounds like a big v8 gas engine lol so cool our old 6.9 sounded like a big block when we got on it

  • @MrChriskenser These old trucks do have a sound of their own!

  • @edzgarage they are bullet proof motors we had one and swapped for a 7.3 because it was in a lifted truck and the 6.9 didnt pull the truck good enough but we put that 6.9 in the other ford and it had 300k miles they are tough may be slow but really strong

  • prob find the knock was the lack of oil around the lifters.she quietened down once the oil pressure was up.nice to see respect for the motor and no revving for a while.good job man

  • @simonfrmgb Thanks for the comment!

  • I want one!

  • You really should not use Ether to start a Diesel.....

  • @DieselnDrums The glow plugs don't work. It's okay.

  • @edzgarage Okay good, I thought the glow plugs were still working. Pheeww!! What a relief!!!! Got any plans for some cosmetic work to be done? Wouldn't hurt any..... I love these trucks, It's just so hard to find ones in good condition.

  • My 1990 Ranger with the original 4.0L V6 had 399,000 on it it died with a fight too one of the pistons had a hole in it and it ran like that for 3 months because i didn't know just the oil pressure gauge was flopping around but when it gave out it didn't want to go it was just hard to make it go. it was so good i just had to put a new motorcraft engine in it and tranny. you cant kill them!.

  • @russianspy52 I had a 92 Ranger 3.0L for 14 years and sold it with 280k miles and the next guy drove to over 300k before it was smashed up. What a great old truck!

  • Ew, what an awful knock

  • @ViolentBiscuits lol You're kidding right? It's a diesel engine.

  • @edzgarage yeah I know its a diesel, but it sounded like it had an awful knocking sound in the begging, probably becasue of the camera, sounded too loud and exxagerated.

  • @ViolentBiscuits It's just the ether when it lit. Imcomplete combustion for a second, it smoothed out in 10 or 15 seconds. It happens.

  • thats ford for ya.

  • @bmakmotorsports Yep!

  • mines got 355,000 miles and it super reliable mines 4spd 4+4 it will be on its 3rd cab when i restore it this summer

  • @farmallboy8989 They are great trucks!

  • my 6.9L had 121,000 on it and it sat for ten years. one 12 second glow plug cycle and it popped right off

  • @BlueBirdTC2000RE Amazing engines! Thanks for the comment!

  • @edzgarage i miss it its on my channel i got it for free

  • I have a 1986 Ford f350. It was sitting for a full year without the oil pan in it. After a bit if cranking, it started up. I still have that truck and it is really reliable.

  • @mrdeisel335 If it is a diesel they are very reliable.

  • @edzgarage It is a diesel. It's the most reliable truck I own.

  • my '85 F250 with a 6.9 diesel sat for 5 years, only took 2 minutes for it to turn over.

Video is on my page with it running, paying to have it restored. I'm a mechanic, but I'm lazy :P

  • @XJproto Thanks for the comment!

  • im lookin at buyin an 85 f250 with a detroit in it. are they really worth the money? btw nice vid and truck:)

  • @fishnfreak18 These trucks actually have International diesel engines. They are very reliable with no electronics to go bad. They don't have a lot of power though. Thanks for the comment!

  • @edzgarage yea the one im lookin at has a detroit in it but yes i can tell by ur vid it does seem to be very reliable. thank you:)

  • With all of that engine noise, it sounded just like a GM 6.2.

  • @sweetcharlie454 lol Nope, all Ford noise there!

  • @edzgarage Well I guess that 2 years of sitting will do that lol!

  • Listen what he say's after :24. You Doubted a FORD? You said it may not start. It's a FORD it will always start, unless something intentional has been done. For Doubting a FORD, you shall be set a drift!

  • @THOMASOAKMAN LOL I had no idea if it would start or not. It did and all was right with the world... I wish it would start now though :-(

  • @edzgarage Hmm. What is it doing now? Just cranking? or Nothing at all?

  • @THOMASOAKMAN The injection pump is bad. We may fix it next spring.

  • @edzgarage ohh, Ok. Well, I'll be looking forward to seeing that, if you make a video. Perhaps a Video of the replacing of the the pump, and possibly the first start with the pump. Anywho, good luck with that Ford.

  • How does your kids like the auto tech teachers?

  • @SuperJohndeere4020 He loves to got school everyday because of Auto class.

  • @edzgarage Does he like the teacher?

  • @SuperJohndeere4020 He sure does. Why, do you know him?

  • @edzgarage no, it's just I have a crappy auto tech teacher, I don't have a good teacher. I wish I had a good teacher that knew how to teach.

  • @MrCryptica82 clevelands the big block right? windsors are the small blocks i think, i could be backwards

  • @MrCryptica82 I agree, same with Chevy and Dodge. They are all shit now. MY 4runner has 262100 miles and needs work mainly from age and neglect. 1988

  • @MrCryptica82 Old Fords never die!

  • @edzgarage its so true, i have a 92 f250 and it has 450,950 miles on it and still has the stock motor ond trans and rear end.. runs like a bat out of hell

  • thats bc its a ford! built ford tough

  • @zzpatrick1 That's right! Thanks for the comment!

  • Hey if this beast is still around why don't you make some more vids of it? That'd be cool

  • @stlchevy95 It's still here... it needs an injection pump though. I will make some vids of the pump replacement when we get it. Thanks for the comment!

  • Nothing like the 6.9, or a Ford truck. Dont see many 6.9 trucks anymore, but they were great.

  • @TexasMan77 We really like ours. Thanks for the comment.

  • as i sat here when u were saying u were gonna put the batteries back in it, i thought "I bet the truck starts right up, right away."

  • @stydel311 What a great old truck this is. Thanks for the comment!

  • I like at 0:32, he has the ether ready! I had an 81' with a 300 inline six. Was a good truck, and I still miss it.

  • @matts4290 Thanks for the comment! Old trucks are great!

  • Is that the factory radio from 1986????.....looks like a 98 year

  • @Graycole11 Defiantly an upgraded radio. I installed it in 98, and yes, it's a 98 vintage radio.

  • how much did you buy it for?

  • @2heuerdt I've had the truck since 1998. I bought it at an auction for $1800

  • I love old ford trucks. I just started one of my parts trucks the other day for the first time in over 5 years!! It is a 1978 bronco with a 351M. All I did was throw in a new battery, give it a splash of gas in the carb, pump the pedal 4 times, and the truck purred like a kitten and never stalled once it started. Man these old Ford trucks are hard to kill. Oh yeah, the truck has 375,000 original miles. My friends 87 blazer's 350 is on it's 3rd rebuild in 60K!! Pure chevy crap.

  • @landon460 Wow what a great old Ford you have there! Great story. Thanks for the comment!

  • @landon460 i know someone who has a 77 f150 with a 351m. the truck has a little over 200,000 miles on it, and the third engine was put in around 190,000 miles. however, his dad used it mainly for towing a boat and carrying a camper.

i'm not saying it was like the chevy. i'm saying not all old fords are "hard to kill".

  • @landon460 Old Ford trucks are the best ever but not all GM Trucks are crap i got a lucky 1 out of 100 trucks that ya cant kill it was sittin in the woods for 5 years put a new battery splash of gas and it started right up

  • not a big fan of throttle bodies....

  • @UziDuziiT Yeah, I like direct injection better. This is really reliable though.

  • i loved auto shop!!! we had a 1998 ford excursion with a v10 it was awsome,

we didnt have really any old cars, we got 2 2010 mustangs lol

i rember hoppin into some of the shop cars and there were tons of bees!!!LOL

    the good ole days

  • @mifan93 Thanks for the comment!

  • @mifan93 the excursion did not come out till 99 or 2000

  • little rust but thats still a nice truck wish i had one of that age. how many miles are on it?

  • @randytune88 Thanks, it's a nice old truck. It has 180k miles on it.

  • i just got one of these old Diesel ford i hope mine starts up that easy

  • @wfortier502 I bet it will!

  • @gatorxuv620i the injection pump is the real jewel in this setup. It was designed in 1941 by Vernon Roosa.

  • good thing diesel fuel doesnt really go bad eh?

  • @julescicle Yeah, I didn't know it didn't loose it' s potency until I posted this vid. Thanks for the comment!

  • hopefully it dident fill the ip with shit from the tank

  • @FMF666 The fuel filter worked just fine.

  • @edzgarage ITS GREAT SEEING A OLD TRUCK STILL RUNNING

  • what kind of mpg do you get?

  • @Rabiesthecat 13 - 17 MPG

  • @edzgarage

    ok thanks for the reply!

  • u gotta love the c-clamp battery clamp lol

  • @GoaldenEye Good eye GoaldenEye! lol

  • @OirechtasMuch 8-)) You bet!!

  • @lonerman270 Yes they are! Thanks for the comment.

  • i have never seen a 6.9 with a factory tach!!! i wish 6.2's came with factory tachs. how is the tach driven? by cable?

  • @6030diesel I think it is electrically driven, but I'm not sure.

  • @6030diesel the military 6.2 engines did come with a drive for a cable-driven tachometer. I removed the one from the engine I just finished installing, because it unfortunately goes where the vacuum pump goes.. The truck uses the vacuum for the blend doors and the transmission-grenading cruise control.. I can make a video of it if you would like to see the piece.

  • I might buy one of these for the plowing and hauling wood. There's a lot of bargains out there.

  • Yes there are. I wish ours was 4X4.

  • i have a '86 with the 6.9 it sat for 6 and all i did was prime the fuel system and it started right up

  • Awesome! They are great trucks.

  • Gotta love those old Ford diesels!

    5/5.

  • Right on!

  • Used to have a 1983 Black F-150. What a champ it was. Only got rid of it because it didn't have back seats like the '95 F-150 did, worked great in pretty much all respects, only serious issues were cosmetic (tons of rust).

I miss that old truck, it was such a champ.

  • This one is part of our family now. It's rusty but trusty! Thanks for the comment!

  • i bought a 1988 ford f250 and the steering has alot of play. do you know how to fix that problem?

  • Ours has a lot of play too. The only fix I know is to replace or repair the steering box. We just live with it.

  • how reliable is the 93 7.3 idi turbo?

  • I have a 99 7.3L Turbo and it has been a great running truck. I don't know about the 7.3 idi, but they are very similar to the 6.9l idi and mine has been a great truck.

  • No, it's not :-(

  • Wow, great story! Thanks for sharing.

These old Fords are great trucks.

  • Fords diesel is the best my dad has a 6.9 and they run forever

  • Thanks for the comment! I couldn't agree more!

  • if my glow pugs are not kickin gon and the light does not turn on when i turn the key.....what is the issue? bad contoller, or relay?

  • Mine have never worked since I got the truck, so I have never really troubleshot the system. Your problem could just be a blown fuse if nothing works.

  • Thats a funky looking tachometer.

  • i have a chevy 6.2 diesel that hasent started since 98 all it needed was a starter and a ground wire and it started right up

  • That's really awesome! Is there a vid?

  • chevy guys take note. ur 2008 chevy trucks couldnt start after sittin for 2 years HAHAHA FORDS RULE!!!

  • right on hahahahha

  • Damn, man. I am happy for your son, and I hope he is happy. That truck has some serious potential. You can make them look real mean! Hell they already sound mean, like get the hell out of my way!!!

  • Thanks for the comment! My son has been driving the truck all summer and still loves the truck.

  • @edzgarage

    Are you a diesel mechanic?

  • No, my brother is a diesel mechanic. My son is going to be going to mechanics school.

  • @edzgarage So am I. I am looking forward to it. I just got out the army 2 months ago and mechanics is where its at. Gotta ton of Gi bill money to cover it to. I was thinking of doing both auto and diesel. I;d imagine it would take about 5 years eh?

  • It may take some time for sure. It will be worth it though. Like I told my son, the future is electric and alternative fuel vehicles. I would specialize in them if it were me.

  • @edzgarage that is great advice man. I appreciate it a lot. That is something i can order books/info on from barnes and nobles and study it now and while i am in school.

  • probably the same motor as that school bus lol

  • lol probably!!

  • to bad ford doesn't make them like they used to. their quality has been slipping for sometime now. BUT! it is building back up slowly. all ford will have to do in a few years when the quality is back would be to get rid of that UGLY ASS design. KOOL

  • I agree, the 6.9L IDI is a great design. It's simple and reliable. Thanks for the comment.

  • That's good 'ol ford reliabilty and quality

  • Yes it is. It has been a daily driver for my son since this video.

  • Well he's got a good truck. I'm jealous =)

  • Unlike gasoline, diesel fuel doesn't go bad. There are no volatile vapors to evaporate away.

  • It does absorb water, but you are correct. Thanks for the comment.

  • 2 year old diesel? whats wrong with that? we drive our forklift on over 30 year old diesel, runs fine, havent got any troubles yet

  • LOL

  • i think i just fell in love

  • nice pickup man. one of these days im going to buy me some powerstrokes like maybe a 6.9 like that modle and a 1999 7.3 and might buy a 6.0 but i dont know yet

  • Thanks! They are all nice trucks!

  • just so ya know the 6.9 is not a powerstroke its called an idi

  • You are correct... I have both.

  • What kind of milage does it get?

  • 15 city 17 highway @ 60MPH then drops like a rock after 60...

  • you need a new coat of paint on her is she 4x4? if she is i am going to hate you that is exactly the truck i want

  • No it's no 4X4... I wish is was! Paint? we don't need paint it's got that well loved and used look!

  • that sucks its not 4x4 if i was you i would at least paint the edges of the body because you don't want it to completely rust away you should make more vids of this truck as well its pretty cool

  • Thanks, there are other videos in my collection of this truck. I especially like the tug of war against the 53 jubilee!

  • Just what I noticed...you have a cassette/cd player deck from a 1999 explorer...that wasn't stock was it?

  • You are correct. I installed the stereo around 2000.

  • Good ole 6.9 :D Gotta love 'em!

  • It is very reliable! Thanks for the comment!

  • The truck runs really well and drives like an old truck. Masteroutdoorsman thinks it's the best thing ever.

  • Good one!!!

  • good old fords

  • now thats a reliable truck! thats why i like ford!

  • This is the second most reliable Ford I've had. The first was my 1992 Ranger with 280,000 miles on it.
