JKA Kata Kanku Dai

This man is not Japanese. I suspect the video has been tampered with as there is a brief frame of another karateka part way through it. He knows the kata but his technique is not what you'd expect of a senior, Japanese, JKA instructor.

@d6deathsquad. If he is indeed an eighth dan, then he should know better. In a dojo there are three teachers : your sensei, your eyes and your ears. This cuts both ways.

Hmm. I suspect the stances are meant to be zenkutsu dachi and kokutsu dachi, but you can't tell from this practitioner. The punches are all at that white belt, shoulder level punch. He also hunches the shoulders on the punches, which reduces his power. He also falls of balance once or twice. Also the flying double kick at the end has turned into a single. Some nice snap and focus though.

He knows how to use his body, that's for sure. His stances seems short but it is possible that he lacks ankle flexibility because his hips seem stiff too. Still wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley however.

I didn't like the way the demonstrator's movements seemed frantic and the way he thrust his head forward. Poor bodily alignments and rushed technique in my opinion. But hey, that's just my opinion....
