@Emeraldz1992 How can he be a natural soprano ? He is a man. A voice , must be produced naturaly. Plus the medium/technology of the recording. He is a falsetist
@Ettoredipugnar Radu Marian did not develop the same way that most men did, and thus his voice did not really drop. His voice does not sound like falsetto, because it isn't. He is a rare exception to this rule, as is Michael Maniaci, whose voice developed like a woman's, for some reason.
@Chaosdude7111 1st the technology. Moreschi recorded with an "acustic" gramaphone. The piano is closer to the horn because it has more volume. Moreschis physical power as a singer, ie support gives his voice the volume to be heard over the piano. Marian recorded digitaly. Echo , almost to reverb effect. and his face is in front of the mic.
I think that that the castrato uses a very different style of singing that probably comes across as weird to most of us. He sings with such power, despite not being an operatic castrato, or being a fantastic one, such as Ferinelli. He was also very old and sick when this was recorded. The countertenor on the other hand uses a much more modern, modernized Bell Canto style singing as opposed to traditional castrato Bell Canto. He also has different tone then the Castrato, who seems to have mo
This is a very interesting comparison showing the differences between Moreschi's romantic performance style and Marian's modern approach. While Moreschi throws in his whole person is concerned about expressiveness and moving the listener to tears, Marian is primarily concerned about a beautiful sound and sings in a very legato, indifferent way. I personally find Moreschi's version much more moving.
@Ettoredipugnar I agree that Moreschi's faith is palpable. That Radu Marian's version sounds so boring might be due to missing faith? If he actually believes what he sings, he succesfully conceals it before his audience ;-)
OTOH it is also characteristic of the romantic style: Meroschi's way of singing matches 19th century descriptions of Johann Michael Vogl, the tenor with whom Schubert performed his songs. And Radu's version is also characteristic of modern singing for recordings.
@ludustestudinis : Interesting thought! Maybe you are right, this recording was done some 15 years ago, he was very young then, still sudying ( today he is studying too, you never stop!). And live changes expressions,of course. Besides, I visited your channell... like it very much!
That's just non-sense criticism, I completely agree to ludustestudinis' review. I find Moreschi's performance better and besides, Moreshi sang the song a long time ago, of course, the recording wasn't so clear since in that day, technology is still developing.

Radu Marian is a completely natural soprano. No castration or falsetto necessary.

Moreschi's voice has more range. Moreschi retains a masculine depth and warmth in his singing that is absent from Marian's.

@soprana53 larynx-hypoplasia* Yes I did.
When the testicles are removed before the boy hit puberty than his childish voice will remain throughout his life.
Hypoplasia is an underdevelopment or incomplete development of a tissue or organs.
Mind my English. Bye xD!

If Radu Marian lived in the XVIII century, he would be a super star bigger than Farinelli!

a very good rendition. perhaps moreschi sounded like this but due to his age and recording technology at the time, didn't convey the true sound.....
