in my 04 v8 quad cam landcruiser, i had the timing belt kit replaced at 150000km. then all of a sudden i had 4 cylinder power with v8 economy. the entire right hand bank had lost compression. turns out the timing belt had skipped a tooth on the exhaust cam. lucky nothing was damaged.
So, call me an idiot but I'm confused...are you saying your timing belt was off by a tooth AND you also ended up having to replace the distributor cap? OR it was JUST the cap?
@nightmathzombieethan Not a bad question actually. The cap being broken and requiring replacement was a result of the timing belt being one tooth off. One tooth off ruined the cap. I had to correct both issues.
Sounds like a wind up car lol. Well. I suppose it is a BMW and they are shit. And before anyone says anything negative about Renault, just search renault Clio 1.8 16v bs BMW and watch that poor BMW get pissed on! Thankyou.
@RenaultClioFanatic First off, your grammar is fucked. Secondly, I'm not even a BMW fan anymore, but to say you're a Renault fan is like saying that you are sexually attracted to the same gender. I wont have posts from people who don't understand cars on my videos.
Rock on, I have a 91 325i, it looks like shit now, but still runs great, I love the little motors in these cars, I have a slight delay like you have in this video, not as much rocker clatter though, I might check the dist cap.
@AnthonyTalerico dont let him get to you man. they are all out there. goto a video of a ford or cheavy and you see whats going on. i hate how someone has to hate someone elses ride. we all like our own kind of ride. from fastest to the slowest.
@G3TLOOSHemi probably over-revved it and has a bent valve. Never know what those tranny guys will do with your car to "road test it" after they "fix" it... do a compression test and eliminate that before you spend any more money.
@zillsbury BMW E30. 80's car. Sounds like the valves are ticking a bit or is that just the audio recording device playing tricks? There is nothing wrong with BMW's. If you are knocking BMW, You are just mad you don't own one. ALL cars need maintenance, this isn't just a BMW thing.
I have a dumbass friend who was told by another dumbass that he had to increase his idle to 2000 rpms after installing a simple intake. Anyone know why someone would do this or have an explanation as to why you would need to?
The only reason you would need to is if a dumbass told you to do it. You, my friend - are smart for calling your friend a dumbass. Tell him I said so.
@TRohr Once, I worked on a 735i that came in with an improperly installed head gasket.. Customer originally intended just to have that replaced ($700), but we managed to talk him into a timing chain, gears, tensioner, etc.... for a grand total of $2200...
did it shoot any black smoke? my car kinda stalls and but doesnt turn off and it losses power when driving on the highway and when i accelerate it shoot a little bit of black smoke
Occasionally it would because of unburned fuel. It never did after I fixed it so I guess this could be your problem. It really all depends on how much power is lost and how the engine is running.
im going through this with my project car at the moment, and have had the same issue in my dail driver, which turned out to be water in the gas tank!!
yes. in fact, those were the exact symptoms. it turns out I did have a leak because I was overheating, but the real problem ended up being my distributor cap. when my timing was off, I blew my new cap on cylinder number 2 and never thought to check it because it was new - I just fixed the timing and was done with it. I went through this whole thing until one night when I tested for spark I realized that it was simply my cap. it runs like brand new now.
if you have rough idle and backfires after you rev it, its possible you have either loss of compression in one cylinder or a spark problem as it sounds like your getting fuel and its igniting in your exhaust, giving you your backfires.
yes I did and no it didn't cause any damage to the valves. some people (for what reason I don't know) think that you can damage them by revving higher when it's one tooth off. revving it has nothing to do with that because they are still doing the same pattern, only faster. it isn't like the valves come out farther when revving it higher - anyway, no I didn't damage it and it runs great now
