really touching movie it does give the impression that the talibans were a bunch of pedophile gangstas ,they were not . they're just a really fanatic go by the book people applyng the sharia with extreme severity
The film was significantly more "harmless" than the book, and cut out many crucial scenes, as well as the emotional content. It was still a decent movie.
i havnt seen the movie, but i have studied the book. The main theme lies around "is redemption possible?" with what amir witnessed assef doing to hassan and had done nothing about, thought in order to redeem himself he had to bring hassans son out of afghanistan. In the book, his first reaction was a definite "NO" but when he thought about what had happened and how he cant sleep at night beceause of how selfish he had been, he thought about it being his way of redemption.now that too, is selfish
I have seen the film, here in Denmark. The film is very populare here everyone have seen it. The film had a good story, but there was some few things that wasn't correct, and everyone was upset about it, it's the chapter when a pashton guy rapes the hazara boy, Hassan.
And i am glad that they havn't let the movie been seen in Afghanistan.
the idea of the movie is correct. But one thing for others to understand is that there are alot of races in Afghanistan. And the way some races are presented or portrayed is not correct. My hope is that people don't percieve the races of afghanistan ie pashtoon, azara etc like the movie presents it. The movie creates conflicts between afghani races.
No, hopefully people can see that even though it it an amazing book, it is still fiction :)
I loved the book, I cried while reading book, but I don't know anything about the races in Afghanistan, and when you say that, I believe you.. but I still the book is great.
When you read the Kite Runner, you truly have to understand why we still need a military. That abuse of the Afghans by both the Russians and the Taliban was / is horrible. Whenever we have poverty, lack of education, lack of humane leadership, it all goes wrong. Sad, Sad - I was so upset. But well written.
This movie and book shows the biased views of a non-pashtun author (Hosseini) towards the pashtun population. It paints pashtuns as homosexual rapists, even little boys (as you will see in the film), whereas hazaras and other non-pashtuns are shown as loyal and kind. This film is grossly innaccurate (pashtuns in the movie all speak farsi), and the book has been written by a man who's spent majority of his life in France and USA.
Um not really. Amir's father Baba is Pashtun, and in the truck scene especially is portrayed as a courageous, not to mention hardworking man. Nice try tho.
So you think when audiences watch this movie and think of pashtuns...that they are gonna remember that truck scene....or the scene of a little hazara boy getting gang-raped by pashtun boys? No 'nice try' about it, telling you as it is.
I don't know much about Afghan culture and people, but I read the book and I watched the movie (and I am from Europe). Even though the boys raping Hassan are pashtun, it isn't something you notice as a western person. I didn't get the expression: "Ooh, pashtuns are horrible", not at all! Maybe it isn't correct, but I don't think anybody not Aghani thinks about that.. just to get a positive perspective of it :)
And yes, his father is meant to be pashtun (though the movie gives hardly any indication of it)... but speaks farsi throughout the whole story. The only time when pashtu is heard in the movie, is when Taliban are speaking. To clearly distinguish the pashtuns as the bad guys. Or did you hear pashtu at any other point in the movie?

you dont know afghans and this amir actor is not even afghan,,,his father pushtun not pushtun wouldnt make a difference its a hatefull movie thats why they didnt show it in afghanistan and has no support in there,,and its only supported by some traitor afghans who forgot them being afghan so shut it
you are so right this is just an attack on the afghans in common and an attempt to cause division ,,and offcourse non afghan people would like it why not i mean..and if an afghan support such hate spreaders as this are no good afghna thats why afghanistan banned tis fool
Well, there are some pashtuns, portrayed by Assef(or whatever his name is), that are hostile to the hazaras. Others, portrayed by Baba, aren't hostile and are kind to the hazaras. This movie shows both sides, and I do admit that it is a little bit biased, due to the rape scene. I still loved the movie, and it is not as biased as some people think. When people see this movie, they are not really thinking about the conflict of pashtun and non-pashtun, but the violence taking place in Afghanistan.
kite runner shows the realiy of talibans and their pushtoon tribes. how uneducaded those people are, and what the pushtoon tribe stand for. these type of people trying to bring islamic sharia to the world. when i saw these movie, i thought these people live in the 7 century.
Taliban are a warring faction within afghanistan, they do not represent pashtun population. But racist people such as yourself, and this film, ensure that peace will never return to Afghanistan. Uneducated? I know of pashtun doctors, engineers, policemen, businessman. Even the lead character in this film is meant to be pashtun.
I didn't like how the book ended. One thing happened that I didn't think fit (I don't want to ruin the ending for any one). It was not believeable. Up until then, I did like the book. Have not seen the movie.
it was a great film, sad realities cannot be ignored, and this film is sure to get people talking; how the heck can u even compare atonement to kite runner? we've had ZILLIONS of sappy romantic films even women are getting tired of them b/c they're waking up and realizing that "romance" is not like that.
Will see, though didn't you guys already review this movie after going to some CCity release party? Now I remember, Cenk got turned down by some intellectuals in a trailer.. raw deal, next time flex harder!
U mean things like....RON PAUL is AGAINST IRAQ WAR...and yada yada yada? LOL...can't wait! It worked so far, which is good!! You didn't see Tancredo or Tommy Thompson with that kind of support!
He's correct. Atonement could not be duller and has a morally laughable message to boot.
