Some deer do jump out in front of motor vehicles at the last second. Other people can see the animals but don't move, probably to collect insurance.

However the collision rate of deers to moving vehicles is higher, so suffice to say, that last statement is not at all 5% of all cases.

I hit a Roe deer last night here in England down a country lane.

Luckily it was only a faun and it tried to duck at the last minute so the damage to my Golf was superficial, just broke the plastic front grate.

Was still alive too in the road, so had to put it out of its pain...with a heavy iron rod!

Was lucky really that it wasn't A) larger and b) a leaper.

I got extremely lucky, i was going through Pennsylvania last night and nearly got one on a country road. it jumped right out in front of me, but luckily not close enough so it only brushed the side of my car. I could not believe my eyes!!! There's little one can do when it's THAT close. I was really pissed!!! One thing, drive slowly when you can't see past certain distance, it could have been nasty
