I remember this sign-off from some stations in NY in the 1970's. Just beautiful. How far we've fallen as a nation. I thank God I'm old enough to remember the "America that was." As a young boy, I would get choked up during the finale of this sign off with the flag on the moon. I just did again -- 40 years later.
WAVE TV in Louisville Ky. used to use this as well. I haven't heard this in ages.
BTW, this is my all time favorite rendition. Majestic, powerful & moving. No other version I've ever heard comes close. Even as a kid I was deeply moved hearing & watching this.
I remember when WBZ-TV in Boston ended their broadcast day with this version of the national anthem. And before that, they would have an Evening Prayer, which would either be a bible reading or some hearing-impaired kids at Crotched Mountain give the Lord's Prayer in ASL.
Too bad ACLU backed liberal scum think this is ill and repressive propaganda meant to misguide and divide. I could give to shits what they think, GOD BLESS AMERICA.
@RayVal53 Gee Ray, this liberal scum has always loved this version of the sign-off not to mention the Star Spangled Banner in general, patriotism, mom, baseball, apple pie, Chevorlet-- you name it.. You seem so ill-informed. But this we can agree upon. God Bless America.
@RayVal53 I'm "liberal scum" and watching this gave me goosebumps. Fuck you and the white horse you rode in on, because you don't have a fucking monopoly on patriotism.
@Tokopol BAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh my, I dont know which is worse, your random commentary, or the fact that you have no life! Seriously, why would you sit there and scroll through a year's worth of messages? Is anything anyone posts on youtube really that interesting? Wow, you are the reason the phrase "children are to be seen, not heard" that being said, be quiet child, go away.
WITI and WNEW-TV (pre-1978, and definitely pre-Fox WNYW) were the only stations I know of to show the ending copyright notice crediting the production company (Saxton Graphic Associates, Ltd.) and the year it was produced (1971).
(In the immediate period after WNEW became WNYW, they resumed using the original Flag Evolution "SSB," but I can't tell if they retained that copyright notice at the end.)
@PGMEagle: That's where I remember this version of the National Anthem!

WRAL-TV 5, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh, also used this signoff as late as 1992. They did not retain the copyright notice at the end.

WCET played this in Cincinnati in the early 70's and I've been looking for this for 30 years! Thanks for posting this. It is awesome!

Does anyone know the original recording or performance used in this video? I'm looking for it on CD.
(And I hope whoever owns this video or the copyright now will remaster it and save it before it gets lost in the dustbin of history.)

I remember in the mid-1980s WAVY/10 in Norfolk, VA used that SSB film.
tam0165 2 years ago
Did WAVY have the copyright notice at the end, or fade/cut out after the final shot of the flag on the moon?
wmbrown6 2 years ago
WAVY/10 didn't display it, and neither did WLYH/15 in Lancaster, PA in the '70s.

Which leads to this question: Which stations would have followed WNEW/WNYW and WITI"s example?
wmbrown6 2 years ago
I do remember when then-WTOP/WDVM Ch. 9 used the copyright until mid 1980.(I'm a lifetime Washington, DC area resident.) I don't know others.

We sign-off fans call this particular film "Flag Evolution". The reasons you see in the film.
WITI's fellow Fox stations WNYW in NYC and WTAF/WTXF Philly also used this film.
