@MAGNETGRUNT: A few years ago there was a nation-wide poll in Canada to pick the greatest Canadian of all time. They picked the guy who developed their current health care system. Plus, there is all the propaganda I have read. The death panels may not exit yet but they will soon likely exist , but with a more gentle name.
Who determined that Palin was lying about the panels? Was it the government, news media or perhaps some private entity? Obama lies every time he speaks...) - - - Concerning the St Pete Times: I certainly have my reservation after having spent four years there between 1987 and 1992. Many people do not realize who runs it and the agenda that they serve. I am surprised, but then maybe not , that an individual of your stature may not realize the tyranny unfolding before our very eyes.
Generally, if you ask that question you'll be hit with either a couple of anecdotes about Canadians coming to the U.S. for treatments, or some fudged statistics from either David Gratzer, or a flawed report on cancer survival rates, or waiting times for hip replacements in Canada vs. U.S.
The hip replacement one is probably the most laughable because most of those faster hip replacements in the USA are done through Medicare.
The polls in Canada do not support what you are saying. By the way, just about ALL the Americans I talk to think OUR system is a disaster. Health care and drugs in Canada cost half what they do here. On every conceivable public health statistic (like life expectancy, for example) the Canadian system comes out far ahead of ours. People wait for care here as much as they do in Canada. And here, but not in Canada, millions are denied care, because their insurance company won't pay.
This is Canada we are talking about. There is no gag order in place. In fact, they do talk about their health care system and 92% of them approve of the primary health care system. (The Globe and Mail, July 24)
A recent Harris/Decima poll (Canadian equivalent of Gallup) showed an average of 70% of Canadians think their health care system is working well (with the lowest approval ratings in Quebec), and 82% of them think their system is superior to the U.S. system.

@MAGNETGRUNT Well, Mr. Douglas is the reason Canadians have heath care, and have had it for over 40 years. Luckily, when it was introduced, and our government asked us if we would prefer to spend our money invading countries and killing our own young men and women, or would we rather spend that money on health care....we chose health care. Perhaps one day your citizens can make that same decision. But clearly, you're not ready yet.
Interestingly, Tommy Douglas (the guy who introduced the Canadian medical system) was Kiefer Sutherland's grandfather. Here's Southerland introducing Douglas' fantastic speech about "Mouseland!"
"The problem isn't that the government of cats is bad. The problem is that they're CATS! We need a government of MICE."
Thanks a lot Senator Vitter. You know you can't win this battle so - out of spite - you force an ill, 92-year-old senator get out of bed several times to vote (while some of your colleagues openly pray that he will die) and now you are stopping other senators from being with their families at Christmas when the Democrats need only 50 votes and have 60. What's the point? By the way, Mr. Family Values guy, are you spending Christmas with your wife or with your prostitutes in New Orleans?
For all Congresspeople with th healthcare industry in their back pocket - shame on you. For all GOPs who are just working to see the WH admin fail-shame on you. Health care reform is LONG overdue. However, given the amount of earmarks some Senators held out for-SHAME ON YOU!
Do you think you will be able to get a band aid in a hospital for less tha $20 after this. Cause that's the problem. You knumbnut fool. You've been had.
Hey don't you think they got people working for them to read it .each person in congress has like 10 aids , remember the Republican from Florida was sending Gay text messages to the one last year,..They already read it
FUNNY HOW THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE TELLING YOU ITS NO GOOD ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY HAVENT READ IT....NOW HOW CAN BOTH BE POSSIBLE...IF YOU HAVENT READ IT YOU CAN KNOW WHAT THERE ISNT TO LIKE....THE gop KNOWS THAT THE F'ED UP AND THE ONCE IT PASSES AND PEOPLE LIVES IMPROVE THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR EVERYTHING THE PUT IN THE WAY OF IT...
@mvptp This bill will improve the lives o some. This may be true. But do you have any idea at all just how many people it will KILL. or should I say "let die" Whether by intent, purposeful design or by side effect , this bill will prematurely end the lives of millions. ,,,perhaps even yoursor your loved ones. Do you have any idea what gov controlled healthcare is really about? Well, it' s not designed for the agenda of human survival. I am on page 1703 and it makes me ill.
What ending of lives? Have you got any evidence for that? Any country in world that has experienced that? Any type of healthcare at all that has ever caused that? Any motive for that? Any benefit of that for anyone?
You see, I'm living in a, well, socialist country that has a nearly single-payer healthcare working very well. I'd love the US to finally get a decent system as well so that neoliberals in this country would stop the incoherent babble about free market and choice.
@Polytical - The ending of lives is inherent to the design of the bill. Ask some people in Canada. I have a friend who is a Doctor in Moscow. She very much agrees. The general idea of such a bill might be a good idea and though not perfect, might stave off a brewing disaster. However, the bill we have here is a trojan horse and though all the rhetoric accompanying it sounds pretty good, they're betting that the people don't actually read it. Ive been at it for two weeks now and Im on page 1704
@Polytical - contd - - Evidence of early demise: Cuba, China. USSR, Canada and it is rampant in the middle east by virtue of social belief. Such a system exacerbates early death by it's design. Motive:
Greed, population reduction and control are the motives. Beneficiaries: The world elites and their quest for a utopia which serves their personal needs. This has all been in the works for well over 100 years. I have reams of information in this. It's the conspiracy to top all conspiracies.
Now except ethnic of other kinds of discrimination, I don't see any instance, where state action would attempt to reduce the quality of healthcare in any country, rather it's the private system tha commits attrocities, as for instance it has allowed the lobotomisation of 300.000 people in the US.
States are limited by any rights of their citizens that can be legally enforced. "Free markets" in their actions are only limited by the negotiating power of an individual: that is, not limited at all.
I dunno, frednoname - maybe you could look it up online? You only have to think about it for a minute to realize how ridiculous is the claim that no one has read the bill. How can you write anything without reading it? Or know if one section contradicted another? Or contradicted a different piece of legislation? Of course people have fucking read the bill!
Why do these republicans want to delay the inevitable? They will still look as bad as those how tried to block Social Security, Medicare or Civil Rights. History will not be kind to them.

OK. Your first reply is just a repetition of the previous. Now the countries:
even Cuba has higher life expectancy that the US, while Canada is way way higher.
China doesn't have "socialized healthcare", the Chinese mostly pay out of pocket.
The USSR had actually risen the life expectancy of most of its countries by a large leap.

@Polytical
Hey now, quit your sense talkin'! This chat space is for douche nozzelling only ;-)
China, ie "The Worker's Paradise" is a sick joke at this point. But Cuba is inconvenient, due to the fact that their medical system is top drawer.

I know, I usually stay out of these "debates". Dunno, maybe it's the holiday season that made me try to present someone with a drop or reason.
Guess I'll take Sancho and leave. The windmills can wait.

Its the dems who wanted to do this at the last moment. Crap, nobody has read this thing, NOBODY.
Anything could be on it how would we know???
frednoname1 2 years ago
I dunno, frednoname - maybe you could look it up online? You only have to think about it for a minute to realize how ridiculous is the claim that no one has read the bill. How can you write anything without reading it? Or know if one section contradicted another? Or contradicted a different piece of legislation? Of course people have fucking read the bill!

Harkin is such a cry baby.
What the hell is the hurry.
According to liberal fools... People are dying every day this bill doesn't pass.
What a crock of sh*t.
The democrats have the Senate, House and Whitehouse. Pass this damn thing if you're going to do it.
This is all campaigning at this point. Dem's worried about next years elections... as they should be.

Why do these republicans want to delay the inevitable? They will still look as bad as those how tried to block Social Security, Medicare or Civil Rights. History will not be kind to them.
OhioDemocrat 2 years ago 3
They can both stay there as far as I am concerned, the Republicans for obstructing and the Democrats for putting out a weak as hell bill.
