  • for those who don't know how to solve the 3x3 i recommend learn it first and then go to 4x4

  • The last one he dosnt know is 2R 2B 2U L 2U Ri 2U R 2U 2F R 2F Li 2B 2R then just do the algorithm for switching opposite edges

  • Thank you! This helps a lot!!

  • quit crying about the speed. Just pause the video and follow the included algorithms on the screen.

  • 0:56-1:00 wtf?

  • You just said F U. xD

    Like in F*ck u.

  • huh what and HUH

  • at 0:17 to 0:40 .... U say 3 times something different then you do ...

  • so i just ordered a 4x4 today

i was wondering if to solve it im going to need to know all the olls and plls? i just started working on memorizing them....

does anyone have any tips of how to memorize the algs for what the cube looks like?

  • Comment removed

  • Ok, I just finished watching this.... why did you say you didn't know the algs and then continue to show the algs you said you didn't know? HAHAHAHA

  • @xxoxia duh.. he has them written down on the computer screen infront of him

  • Hey man, to switch two adjacent edges, hold them both in front. The alg is: (Uu)2 (Ll)2 U2 l2 U2 (Ll)2 (Uu)2 y' R' U' R U R B' R2 U R U R' U' R B

    To switch two diagonal corners:

hold one in FR and other in BL:

    (Rr)2 f2 U2 (Ff)2 U' (Rr)2 U2 (Ff)2 U (Ff)2 R2 U2 F2 (Rr)2 U

and two adjacent edges, hold one on R and one in F:

    R2 D' (Rr)2 U2 F2 r2 F2 U2 (Rr)2 D R2. Hope this helps.

  • yout are soo fast to keep up

  • =/ that first alg. only took me a total of about 15min to learn O.o

  • 0:57

  • towards th end u said u put a piece in wrong. Will that really effect how it is solved? Because they can move freely and switch places without being taken out.

  • What he meant was, when you take out an edge pair, make sure that you first put them next to each other seeing the "dome" shape to go around the central ball core, then put them in. If you do not do this, and try to force the edge pieces in (they cannot go in at all that way) it will force the center piece upwards. If you persist to push, it will break the center pieces.

Yes, your notion is correct. Assuming that you put in the edge pair flipped, you can flip it back doing algorithms.

  • well..i know why you have corner mis-oreantation....your supposed to make the last layers *top face* all solid before correcting the edges...i figured the whole thing out without a tutorial...you can solve with with an iq of 105 (standard 6th grade mind) and if u know how to solve a 3x3...i though it was even easier than the 3x3..longer but way funner

  • funner? aren't you the genuis

  • haha good call..

  • I watched through this. I don't see why Erik hated it.

  • the algorithm to switch just the 2 corners is 2U* (2Uu2) 2L* 2U 2l 2U 2L* 2U* F' U' F UF R' 2F U F U F' U' F R.

  • yhou say you don't know a algorithim, but then you give us a algo to solve it lol.

  • Thankyou so much for this video. The first alg you teach, i had forgot how to do it over a few months when i got my 7x7 but thanks to your vid i got it back. Thanks much.

  • your last parity u go over u said u can get around it with plls what are the plls u use to get around it?

  • I have an easy recommendation for you. When solving the last layer, solve the corners first. Then, if the edges are in a weird permutation (meaning, there sequence does not match any of the PLL cases for the 3X3X3), then perform the algorithm r2U2r2(Uu)2r2u2 to any of the faces. From there, you are will have a 3X3X3 in your hands (well, provided you do not have one-edge incomplete [odd parity]). The key is to solve the corners first, not the edges!

  • YAY! thank you Thrawst for bringing back the good cubing memories

p.s. just learned how to solve the 4x4 again after a year.

  • with the parity to flip and edge pair instead of (Rr)s and (Ll)s do r and l and it wont mess up the top layer

  • thanks man..

  • which PLL you use for the last parity? you didnt mention it

  • it is probably the y permutation

  • without a doubt

    eastsheen

  • sweet my 4x4's now solved!

  • fyi ALL parity cases can be solved by doing the r2 U2 r2 (Uu)2 r2 u2 alg. with the exception of the single edge flipper you need that longer one for that BUT it will mess up your OLL so try and recognize it b4 you do OLL. you don't need those long beasty algs. or if you know the PLLs you can do what thrawst said

  • do your 4x4 lock up constantly??. and is there any way to fix it. My 4x4 locks up ALL the time and its so frustrating to speed solve. Im looking into an eastsheen but i have to deal with my 4x4 for now

  • man ur thing at the end for the corner pairity messed mine up!

  • y u say ze ze ze ze ze in the z perm part?

  • very nice... but slow the fuck down! lol

  • i keep thinking the red is wrong because of the shading difference. i have the centers but i think i will learn the one with no perity cases

  • Everytime i do the parity case for the edge flipping algo, it messes up. Why? This pisses me off.

  • U should post the parity and PLL algorithms in the description. Or make a video about PLL on the 4x4x4. Nice video though =]

  • the plls in the 4x4 are the same as in a 3x3 except the parity cases

  • y do ppl say u only need 2 parity algs?

  • you SERIOUSLY need to slow down

  • At 3:35, which PLL do you use to get around it?

    A Y Perm?

  • probably Y perm then 2r 2U 2r 2U* 2r 2u then edge cycle

  • Ah yeh I see. thanks

  • no problem ;)

  • It's a Na PLL. After, (Uu)2 (Ll)2 U2 l2 U2 (Ll) 2 (Uu). It should look like the Na PLL on a 3x3

  • wow , pogobat knows the altorigthms for 2:31

  • pogobat doesn't know the PLLs though so he has to know it.

  • izza ga zer za go zer

  • OMG you go like super sayian on that cube at

    0:45-0:50

  • your right!

  • @maizezHacker its speed up

  • You've got a problem on Parity 1. The second R star should be an L Prime. That way you can swap your pieces correctly.

  • u go to fast

  • thrawsts zperm- iztogizear isagizear

    thrawsts ANTIsune- R U2 R U R U R

  • you tend to say corners when it should be edges

  • never mind i solved it

  • how to make the corners in the last layer?

  • i don't give a crap

  • the first kombination dosent working.

    Why??

  • URDOINGITWRONG

  • for 2:10, couldn't you just do the 2x2 method to switch around the two corners on the last layer? I mean R U2 R' U' R U2 L' U R' U' L thing?

  • wait i take that back for some reason i cant get the first parity case

    ?>???

  • You messed up on the first parity case. You wrote (Rr)2 B2 U2 (Ll)U2 (Rr)' U2 (Rr) U2 F2 (Rr)F2 (Ll)' B2 (Rr)2.

    While it's supposed to be...

    (Rr)2 B2 U2 (Ll)U2 (Rr)' U2 (Rr) U2 F2 (Rr)F2 (Rr)' B2 (Rr)2.

You switched the two turns near the end. The third to the last turn to be exact. Just making a correction yet this is the best youtube video i've seen for solving a Rubik's 4x4x4.

(i usually doint really typeproperly :])

  • Actually he is right. I have tried both of these formulii multiple times and his is right. Your's causes 2 of the centers to be seperated.

  • Actually buddy, (Ll)' and (Rr)' do the same thing on a 4x4 cube. Either way, the move works..

  • man, is ther a way you can help me understand how to solve the edges? you go to fast. I dont know anything about the pll or 2 gen or anything... i dont even know what they mean hahaha i just like this cubes. can you help me out?

  • Whys He Have So Many Working Cubes Aha

  • yes its possible to have two parity cases on one solve... ive had it before

  • you never mentioned the pll to do when the corners are placed diagonal?

  • for the two adjacent edges swapped parity case, you can also do R U R' to set them up as opposites and then do the oppsite edge parity alg, and then just undo your set up R U' R'

  • Is it possible to have two cases of parity on one solve?

  • yes it is possible

  • dude wut about when 2 single edged pieces are out of place

  • that shouldnt happen if you have YOUR SINGLE edged pieces already paired up

  • ty so much, im still working on the parity where u flip a single edge :)

  • thank you so much now i can solve the rvenge in 1min and 59seconds and 2min 57 seconds on my first try

  • the alg you don't know is R U R' U R U U R' make sure you are holding the wrong edges on your left and the other ones facing you but I am not sure if it works just try it thrawst

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

  • ive got my 3x3 down to about 58 sec. for my record,,, this kid a genius tho. i can also do 4x4 and 5x5 but this shit is impressive!!! hand down :P 1337

  • first alg. sucks! so long

  • so if you know all the plls you only need to know the 2 edge switcher and 1 edge flipper

  • its my first solve and after i a while i got the centers and edges, but all of my corners are wrong, what sohuld i do?

  • Did you make a mistake, because in the first case you show us, at 0:37, you say L' and type L', but you do R'.

  • he flipped his cube around so it he was holding the back in the front

  • Oh i seee. Thanks!

  • for the adjacent corner switch, you can just do the edge switch (r2 U2 r2 U2u2 r2 u2) and solve it from there normally for us lazy people who doesnt want to learn the whole algorthim

  • Dang...so confusing

  • the algorithm for the last parody is U R B U B' U' R'

  • oh and, thanks a bunch

  • whoops that's the second to last one

  • wow ur a damn pro man u turn it like its a piece of shit

  • I love you!!! Thank you so much!

  • on your second parity where the centers of 2 sides are mixed. But i only have 1 side flipped around. How can i fix that?

  • ok, so i'm solving the cube and i'm almost there! I have no parity (thank goodness!)but when i use pogobat's r' d' r d to permutate the final corners it messes up bigtime. please help !!!!!!

  • you probably do have a parity. relook your situation

  • i figured it out, i put a piece back wrong after it fell out.

also does anyone know cage method or know where i can learn?

  • dude....im having hard time...to pair all edges without messing one from another,...any idea??....i really nid help my rubiks cube

4x4x4 is 100 years old still i cant solve it....message me please..

  • Wat PLL case do u use for the diagonal parity?

  • your cube is sooooo bad.

  • (NOOB ALERT) so in 4x4 notations (Uu) would mean move the top two layers? and (Ll) would mean move the farthest left layers? ect?

  • Yes. Exactly. Same for (Rr) too, and for the lower case letters (r, u, l, etc.), it's referring to the inner layer.

  • Thanks so much for this, all the paritys work, and that helped clear up alot of confusion and anger from earlier. I'll be looking at your 5x5 tutorial also shortly

  • what is the corner cycle? i must hav learned it different than you just did it

  • yea i need to know how to do the corner cycle

  • really u only need the edge flipper and the double edge switcher. really if u know all of them it'll make it faster, but that's all u NEED 2 know if u want to solve it

  • nevermind

  • what does the B mean??

  • the back side opposite to F or the front side

  • i said nevermind, thanks though!! :/

  • basically treat every paired edge as a middle as a singe peice like on a 3x3

  • when you do the parity thing for the fronts do you do both the fronts or just 1?

  • turn only the outer layers

  • start with the cross and work from there

  • i take it there's no way around learning parity algorithms is there?

  • i cant tell the dif between the orange and red on his cube...

  • ya me 2

  • can any one help me with something, i can get all the pairs and line them up but i need help with putting in the white corners(white on bottom)

  • wow ur fast....i just got my rubiks cube yesturday...i messed it up lol every 1 at my house is trying to fix it!

  • Please help me. For some reason I get the centers and edges, but then when I go to solve it like a three by three it doesn't work at the end. Two of the corners are always mixed up. Do you know why or how I can fix it? Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • I know me too, it will mess up the other edges if you try to fix it too

  • I found out what it is. You have to make sure the centers are in the right places otherwise it won't work. I thought it just had to be red opposite orange, blue-green and white-yellow, but that's not the case. make sure red it to the right of white.

hopefully that'll help. either that or horribly confuse you =D

  • If blue is on top. LOL if Green is on top then red is to the left of white. I just always solve the blue side so if I have blue on top then from left to right I have red yellow orange white.

Also when you get to the end you will often have parity, this video will help you with that. Everyone has different ways of solving parity..

  • What he said =D

  • it is called parity

  • Yes, that's already known. What we were trying to figure out was how to fix it, but that's been done as well.

  • ok so wat do i do? i have all the centers figured except two... i dont have any corners yet. but the two centers i havent done are across from each other and upside down from what they are suppose to be? help plz

  • hey i don't have parity and i do ri di r d on the corners it doesn't work

  • what do u spray with to lubricate the cube?

  • thrawst, if u dont know some parities, i think dan brown has some algorithms in his 4x4 videos

  • Hey, where did you get those algs? Can you plz give a site that you recommend is easy to use?

  • slow down please. other than that thanks

  • ok i have no fucking clue what u were talking about but on my own i have gotten to where the corners are either opposite or right next to eachother. all i want is 4 u 2 tell me WTF R2 IS!! AH nvm ill find out on own like norm. pretty good show bro. got a 5v5v5 yet??

  • Thank you so much!! best tutorial out there =]]

  • that second parity algorithm never works for me what do you think im doing wrong ?

  • Oh my gosh! Ive had a 4x4x4 cube for 3 weeks and i figured out how to get all the way to the end but then i encountered the parables. Thanks to your video I can now solve the 4x4x4 cube easily. Thank you very much.

Check out my video "Anker solves a Rubik's cube".

  • does anyone know the corner cycle algorithm he is talkin about at 3:20?? "see now its just the corner cycle" .. i tried to watch it abunch of times to follow it n write it down but i keep getin it wrong lol

  • i think he means edge cycle, if that exists. cuz i just need to swap 3 edges not the corners. =] anybody?

  • yea thers two, but there the same thing if you do one once its the same as going to other one twice, just go R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R

  • hi, thanks for replying. i tried your algorithm and it does swap the edges around but it seems to move all 4 edges because everytime i do it the solved edge changes colors but theres still 3 outta place. i jus need to swap 3 edges clock wise, similar to the 3 corner clockwise move Fi L Fi R2 F Li Fi R2 F2.

  • Hey Thrawst, thanks for making these tutorial videos. I can now solve up to the 7x7x7. Thanks again.

  • lol, you keep calling edges corners and corners edges, all the time :P but great video

  • all of the last 4 corners are at the good palce but with a bad position

  • any1 at here know how to solve the last 4 corners at the up of the cube?

  • ok the parity case where u only flip one edge doesnt work for me

i can solve it most of the time but sometimes i get that parity case

ive looked at all the videos and web pages but none of the algorithms work for me

  • For the 3rd parity it seems like it would be easier to just orient the corners first like in the pterus method and then solve them, then if you have a second parity do that, instead of that long t-perm

  • when you solve all edges.....how do u solve the corners without messing up the edges...

  • you should learn the friedrich method

its MUCH faster for the 3x3 and it will help you solve the first 3 layers of the cube. theres alot of helpful vids on fridrich

  • it won´t mess up the edges since they are in pairs. Then you solve like a 3x3. Moving 2 layers is like moving one in a 3x3

  • YAAAAAY; i finnnaly got threw parity thanks to your video :D u have a final step there that reads B2, shouldnt it be (B2)' ?

  • what is the corner cycle?

  • you switch the places of three corners in a cycle. example: corner A goes to corner B, B goes to C and C goes to A. or UFL to UFR, UFR to UBR, UBR to UFL.

  • wuts the algorithm for that

  • U,R,Ui,Ri, until you complete putting the bottom color in its place

  • U R Ui Ri??? no. more like Fi,L,Fi,R2,F,Li,Fi,R2,F2. do this in a solved cube to see how it works. that rotates three corners in a clockwise cycle. of course doing that alg backwards makes them move counter-clockwise.

  • thats a good algr. man it really works lol do you have any other algrorithms for the corner pieces? everytime i do that algr. thats suppose to swap two corners in thrawsts video it messes up my whole cube. thats where im stuck, i can solve my cube except all the corners are always outta place. =/

  • okay so i just tried the tperm algrorithm, the one he does before the one that messes up my cube lol and it works for me. so with shittylarrys 3clockwise algr. and the tperm i can put all my corners where they belong, only problem is.. none of them are facing the right way lol is there any algr out there that will just flip a corner till its right side up? =/ i feel like im solving my cube in alotta uncessacry steps, but im not in it for speed i just wanan be able to solve this damn 4x4 =/

  • I guess you mean you want to flip the corners clockwise/counterclockwise until the top color of the corner is pointing up. you need to put one of those corners in UFR(up front right) and do Ri,Di,R,D as long as needed to get the top colour pointing up. once it points up, you must turn the top layer to get a new corner to the UFR place.(you need to do the RiDiRD 2 or 4 times and you have to turn the top layer once or twice to get to the next unsolved corner)

  • wow thanks larry! its like the last move i do on the 2x2. okay well it worked on the 4x4, all my corners are in the right spot and they are right side up so there all solved, only problem now is, doing this put 3 paired edges completely outta place =/ and just by looking at it im sure i cud get them back in there spots but once i begin to try i immediately notice all the corners becoming messed up again so i stop =/

  • other than that the cube is completely solved with the exception of the 3 edges. it looks beautiful lol this is the closest ive come to solving it since i purchased it lol thanks for your help so far larry, youve really been a great help.

  • you messed up on the "r2 U2 r2 (UU)2 r2 u2 part. you forgot to do the R2' after after the r2s

  • does solving 4x4x4 like 3x3x3 works too??

  • what does B2 mean?
