  • Oh my gosh. *D'oh*

    Some of these comments. ;/

  • this is the realest song ever written to me, it makes me cry every single time.

  • i associate this song to my brother, he died recently. he was 9. and because if this, i always cry when i listen to this song. but at the same time it's comforting. i really love everything ben gibbard has done

  • I can honestly say this song actually touches me and I'm not the type that gets all emotional over little things. His voice, lyrics, sounds all combined is beauty.

  • That's a good question. Who is going to watch me die?

  • @Kracalackin98 Even though I don't know you, I'll watch you die. (:

  • "Love is watching someone die."

This morning I had to put my cat down. I love her more than anything.

I miss you, Kiki. You're always in my heart.

  • @gallifreyanjam ... I know how you feel, Rip Amelia....

I'm sure Kiki's in a good place. So with our dead friends...

  • I don't know why some spirits stay earth bound, but I told my mother, don't worry about us, you've had enough of that, don't stay here because your worried for us. Go find dad and Marvin (my older brother died from cancer) and grandpa go find them. We'll be fine and it's ok for you to go. No family left now.

  • I hope this song never gets popular. Or more than it already is.

  • this song is lovely, even in 240p =)

  • I can honestly say that I connect to artistic people most often through Death Cab For Cutie.

This song makes my heart twist in pain. Life and death..life and death.

    love and life.

I just sometimes can't stand the fact that love is life and life is eventually death.

but it's the most beautiful way you could possibly put it.

    Love is watching someone die.

Everything about the way this song was written and put together is spine chilling.

DCFC: opening my eyes every morning

    thank you

  • @anjipeace lets be best friends

  • @anjipeace word up

  • Death cab is the main reason why I decided to finish my music, after my father passed away, I didn't have much else to live for, until I heard them.. totally changed my whole world around. Love them.

  • ohh how i love this song

  • I watched my grandfather pass away in the hospital. My family was there pacing the ICU. I will never forget that and I will always love him. This song also reminds me of one if my good friends he also passed in the ICU and because of him I will not drink. He changed my life for the better and will always thank that they were in life.

  • this song totally reminds me of my daddy...i watched him die at 5:54 pm onn 11/11/09 and my name is sara. he was never really in my life. but i poured my heart out to him most of the time so i hope he was and always is thinking of what sara said.

  • @Buttercuppp311

    Im sorry about your father.

  • @phomphithak So am I.

  • @Buttercuppp311 wow, you remember the exact time, too? You must have really loved him.... I would tell you you that I was really sorry about him, but I don't think I have a right to do that.... heck, I've never even been through what you have!

  • @Maralex897 thank you. you can say what you like about him. honestly i dont mind.

  • @Buttercuppp311 It's beautiful that you called your father daddy even though he wasn't "really" in your life. I have three daughters and through my struggles with addiction, hurt feelings, my inability to connect and circumstances there exists a sort of distance between us, if things hadn't gone just as they did they may have had to say goodbye to me as well. I am grateful for everyday now and am bridging that gap with love in my heart and a debt of gratitude that I shall repay in actions.

  • @Buttercuppp311

Sorry for your loss. It takes great courage to say something like that open wide. I just hope, that when I come to the time of my life, when I'll have to think about what Sarah said, I will be as brave and loving as you are.

  • Love = Watching someone die.

Who's gonna watch you die = Who's gonna love you.

    genius...

  • We love Mediaoutletonline for doonnlooading f.r..ee tuunes such as this. You all should try and search it using Google.

  • Well my gf left me a few weeks ago because my ex came back into the picture and was just breaking her down. I couldn't stand the thought of losing her so I had attempted suicide that very night. She was so scared and we got back together, I can proudly say that I'm gonna marry that girl and I've started competitive cycling too, I've been told by the time I'm older I could possibly compete in the Tour de France. I'm living life to the fullest and I've never been more happier with her and my bike.

  • @BlazersLax17 Live it up

  • @BlazersLax17 That's amazing, great for you!

  • @BlazersLax17 so let me get this straight... this pitiful excuse of a person couldnt bare the thought of having to live with the guilt of some no one killing themselves because of something she did, and "got back together" with you... AND YOURE PROUD OF THAT?!?!?! and here i thought my existence was pathetic

  • @nrm50211985 Although this was days ago, listen to Faking My Own Suicide, by Relient K ... maybe its not as pathetic as you think =]

  • @BlazersLax17 so you basically forced her into the relationship?

  • good job jack...

  • @engul91 Thanx man

  • Fantastic job on the video. <3

  • I'm coming down on ice and this is really something else..

  • @Puddnuggit get off drugs, my girlfirend left me for my problems, now I sit here wishing i never touched them , quit b4 you get to this point

  • The drums in this song are gorgeous.

  • I just remixed this song for my music tech class. <3

  • @phomphithak it's kickass dude!!

  • @miscis2

    thanx man i appreciate it.

  • playing snake on this vid is trippy 0.0

  • Ill be dying in 5 min. Anyone want to watch?

  • This song was a revelation from me. Love is bittersweet.

  • Who's going to watch me die?

    NOBODY.

  • @melancholyhumour Join the club...

  • Songs like this remind me why love is so damn hard... everyone strives for love but how the hell do we deal with the pain. I'ma a guy and I have 2 friends that are both girls and we are the best of best friends. Like a great Trio.. but both of the girls started liking me a few months ago and I like one of them but not the other... But i know that if I go out with the one I Iike then this trio is finished. And so now I sit at an unneasy stale mate.... cause either way i move...i lose

  • @mavsguru41 Awwwwwww soooo depressing. Dude, people have a whole lot worse shit to deal with, live your life with no regrets and move on. This conflict isn't worth whining or pouting over. When your kid dies, than we can talk. You're not a loser, you're a winner. Most Americans are unless we fuck ourselves up all horribly.

  • Who's still looking for that person that'll watch them die?

  • This is such a beautiful song, brings back memories of childhood. One of their best songs, calms me down instantly.

  • Dnload the audio from this video at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • awesome computerized visuals

  • i'm getting a tattoo on my back that says

"every plan is a tiny prayer to Father Time" :)

  • @nothinbetter2do101 not if i beat you to it

  • @nothinbetter2do101 Should get a tattoo that say's "Love is watching someone die"

  • @nothinbetter2do101 I'm 14, I can't get tattoos.

  • @ItsBonzo That's cool, they can apparently. And you can one day; they never specifically said when.

  • @nothinbetter2do101 ill probs get love is watching someone die

  • it's because your perception might be blue-oriented 'coz the song's so sad

  • the blue ball so totally owned the red one

  • im in nursing school and i think that everyone who is going into health care should have to listen to this song.

just to show that theyre taking care of people, loved people

  • im in nursing school and i think that everyone who is going into health care should have to listen to this song.

just to show that theyre taking care of people, loved people

  • its not right just not right T_T

  • "but love is watching someone die, ............ so whose gonna watch you, die."

  • hey everybody type wow before typing youtube.com

  • @GameBone9 y?

  • If you like this song, checkout "The Runaway" by Regret the Hour

  • That's what she said.

  • ain't nobody gonna watch me die..

  • Also, even though the song is probably about him watching someone die, listen to the song with the mindset that he is the one dying. So at the end when he asks "who is going to watch you die," it makes the question directed at his loved ones because he will not be able to watch them die. Just a thought.

  • @fiveten8 I actually thought this whole time that it was from his point of view while dying--and now I saw it the other way. It is reeally interesting seeing it from both sides.

  • "& it seems like a violent wind, that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds. & i knew that you were a truth i would rather lose, than to have never lain beside at all...."

  • Perfect

  • I always feel like this song should pick back up after the whose gonna watch you die....great song anyways, but i would have really enjoyed it more if it went back into another chorus line.

  • I love this song. Period.

  • i LOVE the piano in this song

  • Comment removed

  • So who's gonna watch you die? Music is.

  • this song reminds me so much of my great grandfather. he's in the hospital right now & we don't know if he's going to make it. this song is keeping me strong. i guess love is meant to let go after all.

  • @theworldatlargex407 it never let's go...

  • @theworldatlargex407 Letting go means love. I suppose.

  • I'm trying to see the "Cath" song video and all i get is:

"This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

  • I don't understand what he means by, "I'd already taken too much today." At first I thought of drugs, but the rest of the song doesn't seem to point in that direction.

  • @mattstrat66 He means he feels like he's already taken too many breaths for granted, like there's someone in that operating room struggling to breathe and here I am sucking up oxygen like a douchebag. He feels like he's already taken too many breaths for granted, so he's rationing the breaths he allows himself to make himself feel better.

  • I don't know how people can dislike this song... They must be subhuman. Either that or the emotions that they have tied to this song must be to intense and heart wrenching to bear.

  • i want to use this song as contemporary poetry for an english project im doing

  • @Bernie0girl I almost did the same exact thing last year! But then my english teacher said I couldn't use it because it had the word 'piss' in it. I wish he could have understood what a beautiful song it is,and looked past something as tiny as that. :(

  • @ClaudeForShort wow that sucks horribly :( i don't think piss is a bad word :/

  • Death Cab, you take the words right out of me. Holy shit.

  • @Mutatia Me too! Josh x

  • I heard this song over a hundred times and i still bawl like a baby

  • @LestanMarius Me, too. Guilty as charged.

  • It tells a story...a story of sitting in hospital, waiting for the news if someone you love is going to pull through. It tells it so perfectly, there's a hidden meaning.

  • 49 people dont know what Sarah said

  • @chanchan0404 shit man. that's deep. xD

  • she didnt want to say anything...

  • can u guys try to make a video clips about song (making love out of nothing at all)?

  • Comment removed

  • @chanchan0404 she said "Love is watching someone die"

  • @chanchan0404 whyyyyy

  • @chanchan0404

    According to who?

  • Awesome video! Great work. Im a shooter/editor myself and this took me by surprise with its originality. Fits.

  • Its powerful how accurate these lyrics are.

  • Comment removed

  • @wadeismyname00 WIN!

  • Good song! It makes me cry for 3 reasons:

    1. Sarah is my name

    2. I've been to the ICU before and seen all of this...it's too true

    3. It's a beautiful song

  • @HarunaSahra i hear ya. everytime i hear this i think of my dad who passed away. spent too many hours in the ICU.

  • This was one of the first things I learned to play on the piano.

  • I adore this song. But is it just me or does the last chime sound like a flatline beep?

  • @WearingOff the visual at the last second is a flatline too, just vertical

  • @wolfpackpeach I didn't even notice that. Wow, this video is so amazing and in sync to the song.

  • Comment removed

  • At 3:20 and beyond that is.

  • There is an interesting analysis of the instrumental part of this song if anyone is interested. It pretty much shows that different instruments represent different sounds usually familiar with death in a hospital. Organ - EKG, Cymbals - Brain Activity, Bass Drum - Heart Beat, Snare Drum - Medicine, Guitar - inhale, Piano - emotions, Fingerpicking guitar - Will to live.

  • @fiveten7 That's pretty interesting...I like how that would come into play near the end, when the bass drum stops..cymbals start going wild- not the patient's, the doctors', the piano comes in and out, it's a pretty good analysis if you ask me.

  • @fiveten7 that was an amazing way to listen to last 2 minutes of the song.

  • @fiveten7

Pray please explain how any of this is in any way true?

  • @AndycKV arts.pallimed.org/2008/04/what-sarah-said-by-death-cab-for-cutie , read that, it is where I found the analysis.

  • @fiveten8

There is absolutely no supporting evidence, its just speculation i'm afraid. how exaclty is snare drum- 'medicine' or guitar 'will to live'.

  • @AndycKV Music can be up to interpretation, and 34 other viewers can agree. If at 3:20 you don't imagine someone being brought back to life, hanging on to their, and then final passing around 5:55, then you lack imagination. But you are probably correct, this song is just a bunch of vibrating waves that are making melodies that Death Cab would have never thought twice about. But if lady gaga wrote this song, then I might actually be correct.

  • @fiveten8 I agree, your interpretation of this song is good, although not my own. My interpretation of any song is just what it reminds me of when I listen to it. This song makes me think of lying in bed on a sunny morning with light filtering through my window while I listen to the sounds of birds chirping and so forth, but when you mention it, I do start to think of death a bit. Meaningful music is great. :)

  • @MusikProductions123 And @fiveten8 I agree with you both, Ben makes some of the best music I've ever heard! However, If this had been written by Lady Gaga, I never would have heard it cuz I can't listen to that TRIPE!

  • @fiveten7 did you read that somewhere or are you just making shit up lol

  • @fiveten7 beautiful observation

  • @fiveten7 trippy!!! never thought of that!!

  • @fiveten7

I like that! It really took me awhile to decide what i wanted to do in terms of making the images to represent each instrument. The theme of the album cover was really the true key for me to make the images move with such grace.

  • god i LOVE the piano on this track, so amazing.

Wish i could play it :)

  • This is probably one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

  • Made me cry :/

  • One of the best songs and bands ever!

  • love this song high

  • The first time I heard this song, I was driving. As I was driving and listening, I was reminded of a person whom I had watched die, and specifically the line about "our memories depend on a faulty camera in our mind" really hit me hard. I started bawling so hard, I had to pull over for a good 15 minutes. Goddamn Gibbard, he can put a feeling/thought into words that no one else can, then he makes a song out of it that just comes along and bitchslaps you when you least expect it.

  • this song is soooooooooooooooooooooo fuckin awesome high

  • i'm thinking of what sarah said...love is watching someone die

  • wow there are some REALLY depressing comments on this...

  • But I’m thinking of what Sarah said:

That love is watching someone die

    ...

  • This song makes me cry everytime I listen to it, and just cant not listen.

This song hits every emotional cord in my body, stirs up memories, good and bad.

I wish I had found this song sooner

  • I love this song.<3

  • My boyfriend's missing.

I don't know where he is.

    I'm so scared for him..

This song makes things seem not so bleak.

    Thank you..

  • I've been in this position with my grandfather. It was incredibly painful, but we all knew that it was time for him to go. He would have hated this song, and probably the fact that it makes me think of him. But whatever, I LOVE YOU POPPY!

  • just found this while looking for songs with my name in it [sara]

it totally reminds me of watching my mother die in the hospital this past december

  • piss and 409

  • brings back bittersweet memories. we were all there, but it was so hard.... :(

  • Comment removed

  • 1:00 And 409 hahaha

  • "...Knowing that you were a truth I would rather lose, than to have never lain beside at all... Love is watching someone die."

Almost a year ago now, I watched my cousin die from cancer. Love truly IS watching someone die. :'[

    Love love love you Matt.

  • i love watching someone die:)

  • You did a great job, Jack Phomphithak. THIS IS JUST TOO COOL.All those little bouncy balls hitting the stick? Genius. Moving song, awesome vid =)

  • Comment removed

  • @Coldplay319 what the fuck.

  • love is watching someone die ..

  • This song makes me so sad, it's getting hard for me to listen to it...for me, I have, or perhaps had, a friend named Sarah. I wonder if she still remembers me.

  • I think this should be the official video for this song. It is so perfect that you used such simple "blips and bleeps". Reminds me of how my life was condensed down to so few "blips and bleeps" while I waited in the Emergency Room for My own life to be saved or lost.

  • This song isn't about Sarah Said. She was killed in 2008, and the album came out in 2005.

But the line "love is watching someone die" does strangely fit her story.

    Death is a horrible thing.

  • i love....death can for cuie, they are simply.....egg in tea cup x

  • I love how the beat resembles a heart monitor.

  • brilliant video.

  • This isn't funny. Sarah Said was the 17-year-old girl who called 911 after she was shot 9 times by her father in a cab & killed her. To name a song after a murder is tasteless. You should die a slow painful death.

  • @HBKanedge818 It's not supposed to be funny, asshole. It's not like the song's making fun of her. It's supposed to have meaning. Get a brain, get a life, shut up and stop pissing me off.

  • @DreamAndRun Well said.

  • @HBKanedge818 your retarded . this song isnt about her, this song is about one of Ben's friends , Sarah, who said this to her boyfriend and later sparked interest . yes, anyone who finds this funny is also retarded , but to insult the band by acting like as if you know the meaning when you clearly have no idea what it is, makes you even more retarded . do your research before making stupid comments .

  • Wow, impressive.

  • fuck your cat asshole!

  • @FrigginBigtime ownt.
