  • Onlt better cover Ive heard of this classic, is someone dropped in a horn section on a remix- really brightened it up.

  • Shit, how they make this rock! Must say it leaves the original far behind.

  • Ellen also sang backup on B.O.C.'s Mirrors album (which also came out in '79).

  • Is Mick Ronson on guitar here? (Never mind who appears in video on guitar....) LOL! 'Thought for a second that was Hunter on drums for a change.....

  • Where can you find this version of the song? Not the album version.

  • Check out Dailymotion over the next few weeks for more of Ellen's Videos

  • luv!

  • I still have these LPs. What happened to her?

  • Is this the same Ellen Foley who was in "Night Court"?

  • @cdanteg67 yep and played the friend of Michael Douglas and Anne Archer in Fatal Attraction-she can do it all, sing, act

  • Crank up the sound ! Ellen Foley is an unsung fe-male artist from the late 70's early 80's. How she failed to take the world by storm is beyond me. " What's the matter baby? " Got me through alot of heartaches. "Stupid Girl" made me laugh alot....especially out in the clubs as I looked around.

  • The first LP I bought had this on it. (Stones). Ellen does a great job....her team is awesome too. Hunter/Ronson...DREAM TEAM!

  • @rocktenniscat

    InfuckingDEED....together with Young Lust & What's A Matter,"Night Out"was a must.

  • @PAULLONDEN Sooo good, this sounds like a live take,it's different from the album version, but still as good. Foley has attitude, and had some serious rock'n'roll credentials.Almost as good as the original, and that's sayin'something.btw...could that be 1:49 Mick Ronson with a white wig,and Ian Hunter on drums ?

  • @PAULLONDEN not Ian or Ronson--Hilly Michaels on drums and not Ronno in the wig --- but it is the rest of Ian's touring band from the 'Club' LP. They were all on her LP 'Nights Out'.

  • @theuncletodd Alright ,thanks.Could be forgiven for thinkin' that ,as those two looked the part ,and the guitar player acted like he was there for a cameo appearance only, stayin'out of view for the most part.

  • Ellen Foley performing Stupid Girl in a 1979 Music Video.

  • I love this take- Why hasnt more bands covered this song?

  • far superior to the original. thanks for posting this treat!

  • god...ess

  • bat out of hell

  • Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson produced and played on her debut solo album, from which this song (written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards) came. This is a different mix than the album track, though.

  • Great voice, pretty too, sadly the song quality just isnt there...

And what a stupid comment about "the bloke from the clash" - as if ALL his music hasnt been of a high caliber..

  • I love this performance. So raw.

  • Magnificent voice, but production and material choices doomed her. "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" remains her best showcase, by far.

  • Some of the guys in the band in this video were also in Ian Hunter's band. I think Ian and Mick Ronson produced Ellen's album.

  • Duuuuuudes............I've got her original album on vinyl, been listn'n to her since '78

  • @bithed And I've got all three. Yep, been listening to her that long as well. You've got good taste, as do I.

  • fabulous!

  • always liked this song- thanks for posting

  • aww man, i didn't even know there wasa video of this. Respect for posting, this is now ripped to my iPod.

  • 1979 - I thought she was going to be the new Blondie. I loved her energy. Great memories; it's just too bad she faded so soon, even with all that potential. Many thanks for the post. They just don't make 'em like her any more.

  • Completely agree. Super talent that was wasted when she got involved with the Clash bloke.

  • Can't blame it all on Mick Jones. Foley made another album after they split up and then nothing recording-wise 'til the Jim Steinman album in 1989.

If she didn't have acting to fall back on (Night Court, Broadway etc,), she might have persevered with her music career.

Hopefully she'll come back and have Lucinda Williams-like success.

  • Great under rated singer who sang on the Bat out of Hell album with Meatloaf. Great rockin track. After 30 years, thanks for posting.

  • Smokin HOT!! Ellen sure knows how to upset the boys!! Thanks for posting this BarryDave49.
