  • harbor rat13 likes this vid kid this shit is funny

  • is this brent?

  • OH! And I suck at math (almost failed Geometry and Algebra 2... but got an A in PreCal... cause I was in a cast and the teacher wrote my notes... YAY!) yet I magically got a 5 out of 6 on the math placement test (I don't even know how... I guessed on half of them) which equals Calculus. So if I decided to take it, then if I decided to become a business major and got a C in that class, I wouldn't have to take another math. Except I plan on going PreLaw so I'm dropping it down to PreCal. =^]

  • Most of the people at my school took AP courses just to boost their GPA, not to get college credit cause we weren't reguired to take the test. I took 2 AP English classes because I enjoy English and I decided to take the test just to get out of class for that day... I actually did really well and when I sign up for classes 2nd semester they'll let me know how that worked out for me. But I agree, I hate math and would much rather not take it...

  • It only bypasses you from the intro/first level course. Usually there are 2 years of the basic/required courses so its more saving you one year of the required courses. I took a few english courses as electives because I enjoyed them and they boosted my GPA.

  • Here's the thing. AP courses are not required to take the AP test. If you pass the AP test, you still get college credit. Another thing. AP courses don't really allow you to graduate sooner from college because in college you take ELECTIVES along with required courses for any program. Just take what they offered in AP as an elective and voila, you are up with the AP kids. Also, if you skip the into course cause you got AP credit, then you take a harder course, which may lower your college GPA.

  • You know I never really thought about it like that. Now that I think about it that makes a lot of since.

  • Well I took the Gov Econ and English AP tests and passed them so that basically either saved me alot of time in college or allowed me to choose more fun classes that I wanna take for the hell of it. :) So very worth it. I may be good at English and hate math, I am happy about not taking boring writing classes learning things I will never use.

  • you look great without the beard and with the beard so yay and nay :P

  • omg, I'm not the only one who thinks that!! XD

    kudos <3

  • sorry, but is an AP test? i'm from germany, so i dont know it

  • I love the beard... and the dimples. Wow.

  • I took AP English so I wouldn't have to take it in University.

  • I love the way you say "math"...very smexy! lol

And btw the beard fits you perfect and your dimples are yummy - just like you! Wow...I'm tipsy and too honest...just ignore this comment! ;-)

  • You take the college level class, while in high school. If you do well enough on the AP Test then you wont have to take pretty much the same class in college. Plus, while in high school you'll definitely learn more because of the pace and the way of teaching. I just took my AP World History test in May. Get my results here pretty soon. =]

  • I took the AP Music Theory exam this year and i took it last year too. I think that with taking the AP exam if you do good it gives you credit for either 1 semester or 1 year and that doesnt mean you dont have to do it ever again you just have one less class to pay. in this economy paying for one less class is BRILLIANT!!!!

  • I like maths.

    Hate english.

    :)

  • basically to answer your question, when you take an ap class, it's like taking a college level course. Lets say you take ap english, you can get credit for english in college and now u can take more classes pertaining to english like composition or journalism without having to repeat the same class. In other words, you are saving money by getting college credit and allowing yourself to take other classes you are interested in, without wasting your time. yea..

  • exactly! the AP test allows you to not have to take the equivalent in college and of which lets you take more intense courses or electives in that department.

i love the beard situation. be patient with it. it looks HOT.

  • i have the same problem....i cant grow a man beard, only a boy beard :(

  • Echoing everyone else, yeah, AP Tests allow you to skip some of the more basic classes (e.g. 101) in college. This could have financial benefits, via Early Graduation or even reduced tuition.

Plus, its a great resume builder for college.

And, as with me and thousands of kids throughout the nation, AP seemingly stands for Asian Parents, because they'll force you to take them anyway.

  • no, that's actually not how it works. you ace the AP test, they don't make you take the regular course in Freshman year of College. they give you a jump-start into an advanced college course a year early.

  • That's a really good point. I never thought of it that way.

  • AP credits improves your resume. It shows you didn't shy away from tough courses and if you did well in AP courses, it shows you can probably handle university material

i don't think the university would value a grade on cooking more than a grade on ap calc.

  • thats actually a really good point.

and I like the beard...but i dont like the hair parted like that :P

  • Comment removed

  • i didn't know this channel existed. Glad i found it!

  • That's not exactly the point of AP classes. The way I see it, AP serves 2 purposes. The first is to allow you to get college credit for a required class to allow you to focus on your major courses (say AP credit for Calc when you are a English major). The second is to allow you to start off in more advanced classes (say AP credit for Calc 1 so you can start at Calc 2).

I got AP Calc credit and never had to take math in college (biology major). It was pretty cool.

  • I completely agree! Just finished taking my AP Latin and AP Psychology exams.

  • You raise a valid point though!

I would've so totally been more motivated to pass the AP english exams If they'd make me exempt from taking college math classes... lol XD~

I mean, I like english! It's alright. Certainly more fun than math most of the time (but whatever, going into my 2nd semester of college now, and passed the 1st math with flying colors.)

I just wanted to say that..... ^^

  • I just took the AP Lit and the AP Language tests. I'm majoring in Biochem in college, so the English probably wouldn't help me much anyway. Even thought I like Lit/Lang.

I love science, but I hate math. That's probably kind of weird since they go hand-in-hand, but science is like math with a purpose. Haha.

  • ugh math.

    FML. D:

  • I'm in AP environmental science, Psychology, World History, and Physics.

Next Year I get AP English 4 and what that meens is that the year after that I get to take AP English 5 so its not that I don't have to take it anymore but I can take a higher level English if I wanted to instead of stopping.

  • what happens is that it counts as college credit, it doesnt have to be used torwards that class.

lets say you take ap math you can take those credits for college and exempt yourself from any basic level class.

  • That's not how it works at all, you are exempt from that class cause you already have a credit for that class. Like in middle school I took Geometry and English 1 so my freshman year I can take Algebra 2 and English 2 because I already have credits for English 2 and Geometry. Same concept for the AP tests.

  • this video made me laugh.

    i totally agree.

    im a history junkie

and im not sure what im going to do now in college

    =/

  • Archeology, politics, tourism! :D lol With history knowledge in the bag, you can pretty much do ANYTHING! Except be a janitor.

  • where did your hair go?

  • lol, i take AP English.

  • my genius self decided it'd be smart to sign up for...

    AP Environmental Science

    AP Literature

    AP Psychology

    AP Macroeconomics

    AP Government

....so does that mean if I do well in all them I can be a total bum later and basically not take anything....cause that'd work for me

  • Im in AP English, and I love it.

    but I HATE math!!!

Im pretty much agreeing with you right now.

  • That was the best explination of the AP test I've ever heard.

every time I asked someone what it was and how it worked, they went into some kind of crazy spiral that somehow made its way back to no child left behind.

  • i hate math

  • Well, you only get a little bit of credit for AP tests anyway. Colleges mostly only give like 5 credits or so for a really good score on the AP test. That means you can skip English 101 for example, and go straight on to English 102. That allows you to learn more in the higher division classes.

  • ur high

  • i took ap stats and got 3 credit hours for it. but i still had to take stats 211 this semester. which went super well cuz i already knew what i was doing and none of the other students had taken stats before. lol.

  • you'll soon become him...

    Take the AP English!

  • Lol, i like the end :D

  • I pulled a C in AP Calc and managed to make the same grade on the AP exam as the guy with the best grade. The rest of my AP classes were in my major. I hate how I have to take Biology in college when I'm majoring in History.

You have super cute dimples. Don't hide them with a beard. =)

  • love the beard! :)

i actually passed my calculus AP test my senior year, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hard for me! LOL i liked math, but it was really difficult. you don't know how glad i am that i don't have to take it now.

it's good for people who are pretty good in the subject, but don't wanna do it all over again in college. lol

  • im great at math, but i don't like it, so im perfectly happy with ap, it keeps me from having to deal with math longer

  • If you're taking AP english and you get a good grade on the AP test, then you don't have to take the standard writing and composition class in college. This way, it is out of the way and you can graduate earlier once you are in college. Usually when people really like something, they major in it and wind up taking more in depth classes on the subject anyway, and by taking the AP class and getting the credit, they aren't relearning material that may seem basic or boring.

  • ha, i wish my AP spanish exam would exempt me from math in college...

    i've always hated math -__-

  • the beard should grow and aspire to become "shaycarl-like" btw just entered this years fresh film program....wish me luck

  • g'luck :)

  • i like it :] and what if the subject you took AP for is something you hate anyways and really would like to skip taking it in college?...

  • yay!

  • I think you should keep it the way it is.

  • hot Ray Bans. :D

  • let it flourish :DD

    -Brent

  • I totally agree with you on the ap thing. It just doesn't make any sense.

  • YAY :D

  • I am in the AP US history class at my school but I opted out of the AP test because I am terrible at history. I have a D in that class right now maybe. But I am taking the AP English test next year though.

  • i love math

    coz i'm asian.

  • Again I say keep the beard because it isn't ASS.... patchy as it use to be.

and thanks for putting our personal business on youtube.. I thought that conversation was suppose to be between us.

  • Brilliant!!! You're right...it is complete crap.

I had a teacher in high school that used to yell at us for trying to write above our level. Good idea...why challenge ourselves to be better than we are.

    Sheesh

  • I agree about the AP test and i also hate math! You should kill the beard. Its just not working for you sorry to say. Good try though.

  • i'm not even going to try and say that i listened to your ap courses chit chat.

but i'll say yay to the beard.

  • I liked the idea of AP classes but regreted it in college.

    And let it flourish Brent

  • I say keep the beard, and I think AP is okay cause now I don't have to relearn the same World History bullshit all over again. But I did Dual Credit this year, its the same thing but I just get credit for passing the class instead :D

  • Is it weird that u kinda look like Shia LaBeouf at some points in this vid? lol

  • omg ya he does!

  • At least at my college, just because I passed the AP history exam doesn't mean I don't have to take history here. I have actually taken 3 history classes here, and two of them were required for my journalism degree..so i think AP exams can do nothing but benefit, i think i came into college with 4 credits which is pretty nice

  • The beard's cute. I say keep it. :]

  • Agreed ;)

  • i completely agree with you, then again, i also want to be a writer and i also hate math. though, the AP classes do have a lot to do with getting your associate's degree at the same time you graduate high school. then you've consecutively finished two years of college and high school, thus have to spend less money on tuition/room and board/books in college (:

  • I think some other people have said close to the same thing, but AP classes are basically used to help the student get past all of the bullshit easy stuff they would already know, and its helps them get that much closer to graduating.

To be honest, your train of thought makes more sense though. :)

I actually have my AP World History test next Thursday. Interesting little tid bit for you.

And I say yay on the beard. Scruff is always nice. Haha. :D

  • I do not know anything about AP tests.

But I took a test right after highschool, for my college, if I scored well enough, I'd be exempt from taking that subject's required/mandatory courses. But apparently no. Either my perception of the whole thing was wrong, or they screwed up, it just meant I got put in a higher math class WHICH IS SO FREAKING HARD. I am dying.

  • my beard > your beard

  • AP courses do not necessarily mean that you will never have to take that subject. There are a lot of english classes separate from the standard courses.

  • that makes sense. i never took any AP classes though. not smart enough.

i vote give up on the beard.

  • I went to college with 30 hours of credit thanks to AP. i think AP rewards you in subjects you suck in more than in subjects your good in. I love calculus and got a 5 on the AB calc test. Now I don't have to take it every again, but I wish I could take it again. but whatever thats 3 hours of credit closer to graduation.

  • Well, the AP exams, if passed, offer SOME college credit, but not more than 2 or 3 years, depending on the college you're to be attending and what subject it's in, but if you flourish in that subject, there's still of course more classes that you can take in it, so, essentially, AP will get you past all the classes that will be bullshit easy for you after you took that AP class and move you into higher-level college courses in that subject and, if it's your major, closer to your degree.

  • i hate math with a bloody passion, it's a good thing my major doesn't require math so i never have to take a math class ever again bahahaha!

  • no1 can ever b ShayCarl!!!!1111

  • brent love ya dude but kill the beard.

  • you look gooood. :)

however, no one can be shay carl haha

  • Killll the beard!!! *middle finger* hahaha

  • I think colleges try to make you a well rounded person. That is why we have all those GE classes to take (yes that means math too =/). At my college, even if you did well on the AP test, for example english, you would be placed in a higher level freshman english class. You would get college credit but you wouldn't be able to "skip" taking an english class.

  • Hm. Simple answer. Say you're really good at Math, and took the AP Calc exam. This only exempts you from the Calc 1 class, which is an entry level course for math majors. You still have to take higher levels of math, so yes, it does become more challenging..

  • brent can i make a video response relating to your topic. but not really answering the question? bc the video will seem really random if it isnt a video response lol

  • You should.

  • i probly will since i havent done a video in a week

  • I want to be Shay Carl too Brent its ok.

  • I'm sure someone has already said this...but...yeah, they are challenging you by making you take the classes you didn't rock at. You could just as easily "tap into your potential creativity" by taking more English or what have you on your own free will.

  • Im taking a gr12 photo course next year& they say if i pass the exam i cant take it again. I dont get it. they should let me take it again & even give me another teacher.

Whats wrong in wanting to do better? I dont get it. Ah well I get a spare! Thats always good!

Also,my guidence councler said in gr12 i dont hav to take math either. Which is good!

Glad to see your not dead

And dont worry about the beard thing

    *No offense on Shaycarl*

    But beards are ugly anyways!

    From

    Nonnahs<3

  • why is it that english is so extremely easy? and math is gay and really hard...

    numbers hurta meh head

  • You looked like shia labeouf in that video and no thats not a good thing. :P

And yes let the beard take over your face!

    -David

  • math sucks...English is pretty cool though...Im good at foreign languages too. do they have a test for that?

  • I thought that was because you were already good enough in that field. If you want to tap into your creativity for English then write a book and see where that goes :p

But if you did well in English and were exempt from taking Math then you'll keep on getting better at English but still suck Math.

[No idea whether that made sense or not]

  • let the beard flourrisssh(:

  • They want you to take classes on subjects you AREN'T good at. They want to help you improve yourself in that area. That's why you have to take classes you're bad at, and not one's you'd already know how to do everything well in.

  • i think we all wanna be shaycarl *sigh*

  • i agree with you, and so far so good with the beard lol

  • ha yeah i hate math too we shud have zombies eat all math teachers

  • what you said is so true but most people don't really think about it until after the fact. it's good if you're pre-med so that if you did well in ap bio and can skip intro bio in college, and you can take an upper level bio class and get that credit towards your major. premed classes are pretty heavy so whatever you can do to lessen the load is great. man, the last time i took an ap test was 3 years ago. i'm so old...lol

  • You want to grow a manly beard. I want to do awesome trampoline backflips. Deep down, we all want to be shaycarl :) You're not alone.

  • I got two words for ya, Brently..

    MUTTON..CHOPS...

    That is all....

  • Poor Brent and his unmanly beards.. :P

I guess your just not meant to be shaycarl.. But, being itsBrent is cool too.. does that make it better?

  • ...yeah... :)

  • I just thought that it was an excuse from that level of "whatever subject." I mean, I got a two on both Calc and US History, so I'm brainless, but I just figured, "If I pass, I get to move on to the cooler, harder stuff."

  • Im a senior in hs and just took the AP Gov test on Mon. I have take AP Lit, AP Macro Econ, and AP Micro Econ later this week.

Yes, the point of taking (and doing well on) AP tests is to get college credit. The classes are supposedly (key word: supposedly) to be college level classes, so kids who do well on AP tests won't have to repeat the same or similar classes in college. It's good for kids since they don't have to take a boring freshmen english101 but instead a more challenging class.

  • yeah but after getting fives i didn't have to take any english at all. i guess i couldve taken some 4000 level courses...

    but why? hm. haha

  • I clepped out of English too, and you're right :( I'd rather be taking those classes. But, hey, whatever speeds up the graduation process.

Also, the AP biology test was beastly. I'd like to shake the hand of the person who could pull off a 5 on that. I'm pretty sure my entire class drew doodles for the essay answers.

  • efffff science.

  • still haven't quit.

  • We're opposites Brent. I hate English and I love math. I aced Algebra II Honors last year and currently screwed grade for English IV Honors this year.

  • I take AP Euro. Hate it. Get it over with. and Have a college credit *hopefully* (FRIDAY AGHH)

  • Really? I loved AP Euro! It was probably one of my favorite AP classes :)

  • We all want to be shaycarl, Brent. Ugh i'm taking AP tests no i actually had my final this morning, i agree you have a good pint there.

  • honestly? Nay...

    -Smurfy

  • flourish! it looks better than it usually does..

I never took any AP classes. I was an underachiever band nerd in high school (which is kinda an oxymoron).

I also hate math. I was stupid and waited until right before Im about to transfer to take it. So now I have to take it over the summer so I don't pay an arm and a leg to fail it again.

  • Dude! I am in the developmental process of creating a beard i phone app that once the user downloads will immediately have a full hearty and masculine face of hair that the ladies go CRAZY for! LOL Loved this video. Seriously how messed up is that? Just another reason for me to justify my dropping out of college FOREVER!

  • how much is the app?! sign me up for two!

  • let it flourish

  • I took AP in high school and am now exempt from several classes. I agree with you though, you should continue to pursue that field if you are good at it. I think the system is counting on you being good at a subject/liking it enough to challenge yourself, to consider making that field a major. This way you get to skip the 400 person intro level classes.

and yes, finals kill. lucky people on the semester system are almost done, if not done already. ...bastards..

  • I think you should try and grow one of those hobo beards just for entertainment purpose.

  • duuuuude i wish i had the capability.

  • I got a 5 on the AP history exam and got exempt for this year but it sucks balls because I LIKE HISTORY AND WOULD GET AN A IN HISTORY.

    i feel you.

<3 youre just as cool as shaycarl no worries.

  • all i want is to be half as cool as shay. *sigh*

  • Thankfully, I don't take AP, so I dont have to worry about it,

But a lot of people at school right now are stressing.

    Not fun.

Not liking the beard so much :/ eh

  • i never understood the people who freaked about the test when it came... i'm also a fantastic "bullshit artist" which earned me some badass grades. hah

  • Although I've never took them, I'm pretty sure it's just like all tests. Freaking out just makes it worse.

Bullshitting is sometimes the way to go though, so it works. I do it often myself :]

  • they should just give me a college degree cuz skool sucks lol

  • ha not sure if that's how it works.

  • I liked the AP tests...:( And totally keep working on the beard!

  • i will sir. i will indeed. haha.

it might have to die after finals though... but until then my face will look homeless.
